First, I will say I am sorry about the insult. I was angered over your complete disregard for my argument. I have since deleted it from my post. Why would you consider it ok to make fun of a religion, in a way that doesn't even serve to correct other's view of how they use it to perceive homosexuals? It does interest me, because I don't believe letting mockery of a religion important to so many people have its fun, because its not decent and breeds behavior that you as a gay, nay above all as a person, should work to defeat.
Whatever, have you're fun. I just think it's sad. I wish people could respect other people boundaries, and leave what is important and sacred to them alone, especially those who believe in it for good, and not tainted even more by people, after it's already suffered much at the hands of bigoted, hateful abusers of the religion they happen to share. Because its not right we can take these things so lightly and with such disregard.
I can make fun of everything...tabus aren't really my thing. To me, everything's on the table...weither it's religion, sex, politics, social issues, whatever...everything.
I'm not, and never was, a religious person but I do respect other people's beliefs...I couldn't care less if someone believes in Alah, God, Budha or any other sort of divine being. I don't believe in a higher power but I perfectly accept and respect that other people believe in them just as I expect the same courtesy back...that they respect I don't believe in a higher power.
While I do respect and accept that they believe in whatever they believe in, that doesn't stop me from having a sense of humor, wich can be pretty crude at times and may not be for everyone's taste and that's fine with me...people are different and like different things.
Why does one make fun of such a thing? Easy. Because, as I said before, groups have absolutely no sense of humor and are extremely uptight, wich is precisely why it's fun to make fun of them. And considering how most christians, and the church itself, don't really practice most of what Jesus preached, revealing their hypocrisy, that makes it even more fun and relevant. It's about breaking the tabus and provocation (as humor often is used for).
And what we're paroding here isn't people's beliefs per se but rather the tabu surrounding Jesus and what the tabu says about you not being allowed to talk "inappropriately" about him. It's saying "no need to take it hardcore seriously, chill a bit".
You think because I joke about stuff that I don't take them seriously? It's quite the opposite. For instance, I joke about cancer, the chemiotherapy, the loss of hair and weight...well, I had cancer and went through all of that...do you not think I take it seriously? I do, wich is why I joke about it.
And that whole "respect other people's boundaries" is bullshit and here's why. If that was true then why should we fight for gay rights? Why was the slavery put an end to? Why did the black community fight for their rights then? If you don't push boundaries, things won't ever change...you'd just conform to "the way things are". Provocation IS necessary, otherwise, there'd be no evolution. It's impossible to live life without stepping on someone else's shoes...but that's how we all grow.
Think of your life. If you hadn't faced obstacles in your life, if you didn't have your boundaries pushed you wouldn't be the person you are now.
This same process applies to what we're discussing as well and many other things in life.
