Did you bother to do any research? It's possible that Beck and the Tea Party had nothing to do with that "firing" (it was a re-assignment, because student teachers have no employment rights anyway), but if you read into the details, it turns out that the people who protested the student teacher's conversation have also previously protested the way he dressed (which was plainly professional)! It was a witch-hunt in a town made for witch hunts, with its zero-tolerance policies towards all sorts of things, and with an city administration more interested in the way they want things to be than in what the law says.

From closer up, "liberal Oregon" had little to do with this, other than that the city where it happened is overwhelmingly Democrats.

I didn't buy the "both sides of the argument" lie/propaganda when I was still a Republican and very conservative Christian; I'm certainly not going to buy it now. "Creationism" isn't the other side of any argument about origins, because it isn't science. If you're going to include that, you'd better get the "Matrix Theory", where we're all just photons in a supercomputer, and a few others, in there, too.

The place in school for "Creationism" is in sociology class, where ideological movements among a population are studied, or in a "How to Read Literature" class -- as a study of imposing one's own cultural views on source material and using that to distort everything about which one thinks... what "Creationism" teaches isn't even in the Bible, so why the f%#$^! should it be anywhere claiming to teach good thinking?


And before you pull out your brain condom to hide from the truth by claiming I'm liberal, this has nothing to do with your shallow political perceptions, it has to do with respecting the integrity of intellectual disciplines: bringing some particular perversion of the Bible into science is no more respectable than using Marx and Lenin to interpret that Bible.

I haven't heard (PTL!) of any such thing in the last year and a half around here, but you kind of have to know someone involved to get the truth, anyway: the bigoted right-wing religious statists always report such things as "accidents" or "personal disagreement" ("Officer, I just had a personal disagreement with a guy. I really didn't mean to break every one of his ribs, but he kept getting back up!"). Our sheriff is no help; he reports things whichever way will play best to the voters -- or to the DA, his partner in authoritarian persecution of the unwanted (which also includes the poor, thanks to people on both sides of the political aisle who find the aesthetics of their neighborhoods more important that then welfare of their neighbors).

Want to know some reasons I'm trying to get out of this town? It kind of boils down to not being a major redneck with an axe up my butt or a "whatever makes me feel good liberal" who can't see anything but his own ego -- but it also boils down to the fact that people who don't fit in are increasingly getting framed for anything convenient (rape of someone they've never met, sex abuse by phone, burglary of a house no one got into, possession of drug paraphernalia [STRIKE]planted[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]dropped[/STRIKE] misplaced by a wandering officer of the law.....), and I don't have the wealth to pull strings to avoid it. It's because even the 'liberals' here, except for the ones out of touch with reality, are F*ing religious rednecks.

But if I stay in Oregon, I'll have two choices: that "liberal" Oregon, which is almost entirely along I5, and more of the beloved-of-Republicans "run over 'im first and see if he's really gay later" redneck territory.

If anger could kill by its energy, most of the Republicans and half of the Democrats in Washington would be dead, from my anger. Why? Because most of those Republicans would be delighted to have the whole country become what most of Oregon is: a place where gays have "accidents" ("Gee, deputy, he didn't work here, so I sure don't understand how he got buried by that pile of logs in the bottom of the canyon.") that people believe (I kid you not) were the work of God. And alongside them, much of the Democratic horde in Congress wants to take away the one thing I've got that keeps me safe and sound: the Ruger SP101 .357 magnum strapped to my (often bare, at the swimming hole) thigh, the Winchester lever-action .22 magnum on the rack, and the 12-gauge Remington shotgun behind the door.

If the economy had been improving earlier, and unemployment was down to 6%, everyone would love everything the Democrats have done. Unless some massive global downturn happens, Obama will be reelected in 2012 with 90% of the electoral votes.

I don't see the Democrats losing either the House, or the Senate. Not a chance in hell. Sure the margins will probably be a little slimmer with Dems losing 2 or 3 seats in the Senate, and 15 or so in the House, but that's the extent of this year's "Foxpublican Revolution".
