2011 JUB Meet - Portland, Oregon - August 5-7

Yay!!!!

Thad, what days are you gonna be there? I'm waiting to reserve my ticket, until I find who's getting there early and/or leaving late - which I think you tend to do (and according to NoC as well).

I am also willing to split hotel costs with whoever will be there the longest or whoever is most urgently in need with room costs. I haven't heard anything yet whether there might be a "specific hotel where most of us will be staying" or such, so I'm waiting on any news like that before reserving.

I'm also working on trying to get another jubber, who hasn't made any indication of coming, to do so. I don't think it will happen, but at least I can try.

It promises to be a fun weekend for whoever can get to Portland!
 
I'm arriving in the very early hours on Wednesday, Aug. 3. I'll probably leave Monday evening or Tuesday morning afterward but that isn't set yet since I'm going back probably by train or bus! I haven't seen a lot of the country in between the coasts and there are several states I've never been to along the way.

I'll make room reservations later, as well. But I'm delighted to be coming!
 
Thad1527, I'm sure you've already looked into TriMet's 7-day bus pass. I know you'll put it to good use. :-)

Just made my reservations--I'll be staying at the same hotel as Swerve, arriving the 4th and leaving the 8th. Can't wait to see everyone!

Maybe an early evening picnic, a cocktail party, or a night of bar-hopping....
 
Well, I was going to save this till I was 90-100% sure about things, but the more I think about it, the more I might as well just say it now. I've told frankfrank that I was thinking of coming, and as the days go by, that might just happen. I am still on the fence, but I am going to say that I am 50-60% sure I'll be going (just 5 days ago it was about 20-30%). I need to just tweak a few things for school and look at booking a bus ticket there. Grated, the 1 day and 12+ hour bus ride will be killer, but at least I won't end up broke.

My one main problem is the hotel. But as time goes on and gets closer to the meet, I am sure I'll find something.

I'll keep you all updated.

I only barely got to meet you when I was in Minneapolis -- but I know that a LOT of the people there thought their highlight of the trip was hanging out in your apartment Saturday night!!!

I certainly HOPE that it all falls in place -- as I'm SURE that you'd have a BLAST in Portland!!!

Oh -- and too bad I won't know what route I'll be taking to get out there -- I could always just drop the top bunk -- and turn your trip into a THREE day trip... :lol:

It's LITERALLY RIGHT ACROSS the River from DOWNTOWN -- and SUPER CONVENIENT...

And -- BEST OF ALL -- a GREAT DEAL compared to the downtown hotels... ..|

^No, I checked Priceline and they didn't have any offers for that hotel, but I was still able to get a good price. And based on the past two meets I've been to, I've found that it's convenient to stay at the same place as other people, just for logistics purposes.

omminc, that is GREAT news! That will be very cool if you're there, and I was one of those who considered that impromptu evening at your place to be one of the best times ever to happen at any meet. (For that matter, the preceding evening with "Lube" and Joe was great fun, during an entire weekend which was pretty much perfect.)

I visited with five JUBbers on this mega-trip that I just finished yesterday afternoon: centexfarmer (more than five weeks before I finally got home!), hard-up1, Swellegant, Lube, and omminc.

I will more likely fly to PDX than drive, because it will be a single-city/market destination rather than a sequence of different cities. I'm even thinking about AMTRAK, but I don't think it's very likely, because of the time of year. (Mid-summer is more or less a "don't travel" time of year for me.)
 
There is a pretty good chance I will be in the Pacific Northwest during those dates. I will be around Seattle mostly, but I may venture down to Portland.

OK -- I'll say it now -- IF THE HOTEL ROOMS are AWFUL -- Don't BLAME ME!!! :lol:

I put a REALLY LOW bid into Priceline THINKING that I was going to get a DIFFERENT HOTEL -- and it turned out that I got the Red Lion hotel at the convention center...

It is VERY CLOSE to BOTH the rail and bus lines -- and also a short bike ride or walk crossing the river to downtown ...

I just noticed in the reviews that it APPEARS that Lilbit has already stayed there... :badgrin:

Overall this Red Lion is standard red line. Reasonable price, reasonable staff, reasonable accommodations. However, my young son found a "sex toy" and a pornographic magazine stuffed under the sink. The manager quickly took it away in a garbage can, but it upset me enough to not want to stay there anymore. In addition, I didn't think the management's reaction...

Regarding your travel TO Portland -- well, I would LOVE to ride the train at least ONCE in my life -- and the Amtrak station is WAY CLOSER to downtown than the airport!!! ..|

I'm glad you had a safe and FUN 5 week tour -- I'm looking forward to seeing again!!!

Nonsense. I would never leave my goodies behind.

Although I did leave my camera's battery charger in the hotel room in Minneapolis...
