They released a statement with the site name numerous times and changed the welcoming page. This is an international story and they seem to be doing a pretty good job of running a subtle media blitz for free. Its not going to take long for the site to pop up more in search engines now and they know it. They are trying to use this to their advantage and it is disgusting. Most of the signs of subtle advertising are already being used.


That’s all I have to say here. It’s not the place for what I really want to say.

Very little content from this discussion has been deleted; however, a number of corresponding threads have been merged into this one. I read almost all of the member’s posts last night and am confident in reporting that his primary interest in JUB appears to have been socialization.

JUB did not contact CNN or any other news source themselves. Those sources came to JUB on their own.

It's disgusting that some poster is accusing JUB of profiting, when in reality they have offered to help law with evidence of his posts, etc.
 
It's nice to hear that celebrities such as Ellen has made a comment about Tyler. Unfortunately, it's worthless to me because I'm Deaf. I have no idea what she was saying. Any idea where I can get the transcript on that video?
 
Such a sad sad story. I haven't posted here in a long time but I wanted to pass along my condolences to Tyler's family and friends. I'm also feeling for all of you guys dealing with this loss and the raw emotions it brings up.
 
I can only hope that some good may come from these events, in the form of a vastly increased awareness and publicity of the issues of bullying, vulnerable teenagers, and homophobia.

Thynight - I completely disagree with your comments. Surely it can only be a positive thing for those wanting to talk about issues to find a place where they can do so without fear? And I would also say to you that posting on these forums is free of charge.

I hope that JUB will continue to promote these forums even more, particularly Coming Out & Relationships, as a place where you can find support, advice, and kind, reassuring words. I am one of those who found such comfort there, and found seemingly impossible obstacles and challenges to be overcome in a very short period of time. Things CAN change, even when you least expect them to.

It's also a good and sadly pertinent time to mention JUB's sister website for under-18's:

If ONE young person who is suicidal is saved by finding these places as a result of these events, then some good can at least be achieved from even the most tragic circumstances.

I am shocked and dumbfounded.

My sincerest condolences to his family and friends at their loss.

Can I suggest that mods/admins/owner send to his family our collective condolences.

He will always be remembered here at JUB.

May he rest in peace.
 
It is so horrible that other life have been taken. it is a shame that we lose other one so young and he seem to be destined for greatness because i heard that he can make a violin sing like no one else. we never get a chance to see him become famous for his music. another great talent lost.

in other side, i read that the roommate have a gay friend!
 
This is still hitting me pretty hard. Besides being so very tragic, I guess it has to do with the fact that I'm one of the people who responded to his thread. I now realize that my posting was too late for him to see and I wish I had responded earlier.

The media and others had portrayed this as he as outed on the Internet by his roommate. I never got the feeling that he was in the closet. He wasn't like OMG everyone is going to find out I'm gay. His issue was about invasion of his privacy and ridicule for being gay. I just saw on ABC that his roommate knew he was gay since August.

I hope the guy that was with Tyler is doing OK.

I must say I'm very happy to see all the media attention. I wrote shortly after we found out that I hoped some good would come from this, like Mathew Shepard's death. I think that is happening and I hope it will provide some comfort to his family.

RIP Tyler.
 
Hopefully, some of the students who viewed the live-stream video will come forward with what they know about the incident and Ravi and Wei's part in it.

Also, I hope the man who was filmed with Clementi comes forward and presses additional charges against them.
 
While the internet-tech aspect drives the media coverage, it's the same old story. A poor kid thought he was the joke of the dorm. That everyone he saw, day in and day out, was laughing at him. Christ....

And I thought this was supposed to be a better generation, but gay teenagers are still killing themselves. During a protest at the dorm, there were kids defending the roommate and his accomplice.

Part of their punishment should include spending some time out on that bridge. To help them realize what their thoughtless cruelty drove Tyler to do.

I was actually surprised regarding the massive media attention. It's everywhere. I thought they were going to ignore this but glad that every news outlet are talking about this.

Yeah! TWO counts of invasion of privacy. Make them serve the sentences consecutively. Ten years is more like it.

I hope the girlfriend flips on the roommate.
