A Poll About Adding A New JUB Forum

Which forum would you most like to see added to JUB?? (if any)

Id just stick to what weve got. I mean things get confusing otherwise?!?!

But there's an idea -- what we need is a "Crap Forum", where all the stupid comments that drag things down can be moved. Drop them into random threads, since it's a well-known fact that people who speak crap don't care what conversation they're in.

I thought we had one called fun and games, at least that seems to be where threads are sent to die. That doesn't mean a slur against fun and games, many threads are very popular there and have made many peoples post counts soar.

I voted for a Non Flame Zone, Other Topics forum.

What we are really missing on JUB is a place for Psych topics or just every day problems that Jubbers are facing. It would offer guys a chance to get support and help who are suffering from depression and anxiety or need advice for other problems.

I think it is very, very common need around here and it really doesn't fit well into any other forum, even the Health one. "Other Topics" might just do the trick.

Voted for Travel... one of my favorite hobbies

I voted other on this poll.
For the past year or so there have been many jubbers (myself included) that have asked to have a military forum. The sole purpose for our request was not to have guys post photos of the hottest soldiers or sailors they had pics of, that was always explained in the posts requesting this forum.
The idea of this forum was not to give political views, just to offer those thousands of gay men that are serving and have served in the armed forces of the United States of America. I know most jubbers are anti-military, usuallly cause of their political views.
There are many gay guys that believe and support our armed forces my friends. I am one of them. Yeah, I'm also a Republican (usually, not always).... and there are lot's of fine gay guys that are serving in the military that could use a forum on jub. Believe me.
I've been on jub for over two years, I've had the fortune to talk to some fine gay guys that serve in the Armed Forces of our country.
Many of you would be surprised at how many of these guys visit JUB I think. This would be a great place for them to talk with one another and the rest of us.
Not a soldier porn forum, just a place for those that are serving our country, voluntarily I might add, a place for them to talk to other gay guys around the world.
Well, jubbers, and mods..... this is the last time I will present my case for such a forum.
Thanks for the opportunity to give my opinion.
:D

I would suggest changing Home Decorating and Interior Design to Home and Garden, since some of us enjoy gardening as well. Also, there's HGTV which is the subject of many threads. Those discussions would fit better in a Home and Garden thread.

And I would be interested in seeing a Cooking Forum. There was a recipe thread that was started last year that did well until it got lost in old threads:
http://www.justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97650 And lots of us like discussing aspects of The Food Network...

I like the idea of the Sciene Forum, also.

Lastly, I would still support a seperate Book Forum, since those threads also get lost among old threads as well.

An observation: The Search Engine here is not one of the best. Trying to research a phrase with two words seems to give you every post that uses both individual words instead of the phrase you're looking for. That's why adding a few new forums might be helpful in keeping certain specialized threads "contained."

I'd say that cooking could go in your Home & Garden -- though for fun I'd name it "Feeling Domestic?" :D

Yeah, the search engine is weak. OTOH, if you subscribe to a thread, you can go to My Settings and click on it, and no matter how old it is you go right to it (I almost said "straight" to it  ). Granted, that doesn't help finding whether a topic you want to talk about has ever had a thread... which is prolly why new threads on old topics get started with monotonous regularity.

And that inspires thought of a whole new feature... call it the Directory, like in a mall. Its basic function would be to answer the question, "Where does my post go?" Like a mall, it could have a breakdown by Serious Topics, Light Topics, Silly Topics, Sexual Topics, and under each a list of forums with a catalog of what goes in them. A search engine for that wouldn't be hard at all. Then you could go in and look for "books" and it would tell you that threads about books go in the "Feeling Domestic?" Forum, or "Crotch Itch" and find that those belong in the "Health and Well-Being" forum, enter "chicks" and get the "Bisexual" or "Hot Topics" or "Relationships" forums. Then under each forum name there could be an FAQ to help clarify.
No, I won't write it, but I have a suggestion for how to do it: use a wiki approach. Just to get it built, I mean; it would be too subject to misuse if kept as a wiki.

I know, that goes 'way beyond the scope of a "new forum" poll, but, well, I get these flashes of inspiration....

I'm such a Discovery Channel fan, so I had to vote for the Science Forum. Although I am kind of like slobone. I pretty much hang around hot tops and if we start segregating some of these topics there won't be much to see there

hugs to all - I'll be away this weekend - See you all after the performance :)

Okay so the top 4 largest groups of voters so far are:

(1) Gay Travel
(2) Science
(3) Don't change the forums
(4) Other no flame zone

I do worry that there will be nothing left in HT soon. :(

Make Hot Topics a sort of master forum and make science, travel, etc. as sub-forums.

Thinking of science, and the mention of William Shatner, I don't see any problem with bringing in some science fiction, so long as that's not the whole point of the thread. Things like, "How would transporter technology change our world?" would be good because they can give a feel for the impact of radically new technologies, impacts we're not so likely to see as they happen around us because we're too involved in just living with stuff. Or "What invention would you like to see?", and let people hash out if it's possible... And so on.

But it would also be a place to put discussions that often no one knows are happening -- like the who thing about alternative energy technologies in a thread about Hillary Clinton a while back.
And things I see in various magazines and news feeds, that I'd like to post about but always wonder if they'll even go in Hot Topics -- but in a separate Science/Tech forum, people would know it's there and know where to look.

We could even talk about travel....
(Warp ten, Mr. Worf! Engage!)

^ actually I only tease about Mr. William Shatner.

Did everyone see how Scotty of "Star Trek", James Doonan's ashes were finally located after their voyage into outer space? They finally found them in the desert after they came back in the space capsule which has been "lost" in rough terrain.

Anyway, he's back.

And I'm not even a trekkie. :)

Now, see, there's a good example of the sort of thing I'd want to see room for: new forms of burial.
Why shouldn't we all be able to be "buried" in orbit, whether one that brings our remains back intact, are burns them up in re-entry?
And what would it take to make that available to anyone who wants it? I think we'll have the technology in the very near future, which makes this an issue worth talking about.

Actually, science fiction is a great stomping ground for formulating the future. I'm just not personally into why Klingons wear medallions on the festival of the Zoltron and all that sort of stuff.

Well, solid science fiction is -- crap like X-men, Dr. Who, Godzilla, and the like rot brains more than anything. But Larry Niven, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Jerry Pournelle... guys who were actually scientists or scholars in their own right -- heck, I learned enough science from them that I never cracked a science book through most of high school!

I like all of the topics suggested in the poll, especially science.

However, Submitted for your peroozal: How about a new "General Gay Porn" forum in the Naughty Bits Section. Sometimes when you find something you'd like to post it may not nessesarily fit any of the categories offered. I find that most subjects end up in the "Young Men, Twinks, Jocks & Hunks" forum because there is not another forum that would fit.

Just a thought :D
Thanks ;)

The games on the arcade are so freaking hard, can't get ahead on any of them.

I picked the "Androgyny and Gender Identity Forum (No Flame Discussion)." ..|

It is not a forum that I would personally use but out of all of the ones that are on the list, I think that it is the most important one. It is the one that could possibly make the biggest difference in a person's life. Imagine having gender identity issues and feeling alone....not having a place where you feel comfortable talking about certain issues. I think that JUB would be be a safe place for them to get some support. Maybe they can also teach us a little more about being human. (*8*)
