ABC cancels "Roseanne" after star's racist tweet

would anyone believe I'm only just learning about her history of inflammatory rhetoric? sucks cuz her show was a huge part of my childhood, the first family on tv where everybody wasn't pretty and thin and blonde and didn't have luxury vehicles parked in the driveway.

Honestly that was the dumbest gimmick. I hated the “gritty realism.” YES! We get it! Life sucks. We all live in a shithole. Now go do something entertaining with some damn astronauts and a genie in a mansion or something. Fuck this realism bullshit.

And the fact that they MADE it that way on purpose and you could picture the executives sitting around the boardroom pitch meeting

“Don, we have a GREAT idea, gonna blow your mind...we’re gonna do a show...get this...for K-MART PEOPLE. For them. About them. Their struggles. Their unemployment. Their off-the-rack wardrobes. Their shingles curling up in the roof. Their meaningless lives. BOWLING!!!”

“Everday tragedy, got it. You mean like maybe one episode Dan doesn’t get a bonus and they can’t afford to trade in the BMW so they need to keep the car from the old model year?”

“DON, we’re gonna go EVEN GRITTIER! But I like where you’re going, that’s why your the best VP of New Development we’ve had. We have some ugly fat cunt named Roseanne to play the mom, she’s fucking Tom Arnold or something. Now can we greenlight this and get out of here? I have a helicopter waiting outside and we have coke and hookers waiting for us in Palm Springs...”

I hated everything about that show from the shitty yeah-we-get-it life that it portrayed to the way people talked about it on the morning news like it was some kind of breakthrough. It took a long time In reruns before I could get past that and see any of the talent in the writing, which was sometimes good, despite the shitty everything about that show.

But I know what it’s like to be robbed of your childhood favourites: I LOVED the Cosby show! He’s a doctor! He has art on the walls! They have money to buy their kids new clothes with some style. They go to the symphony. They eat at restaurants. They have a fireplace in their kitchen!! They push their kids to achieve! This is awesome! One day, maybe. One day. Every show should be like this!

Lol I can tell you never watched much of the original show. Yes there were "very special episodes" once in a while, yes it was topical but it was like 90% tongue-in-cheek humor and pre-Malcolm in the Middle family drama. Yes Cosby was a good show, but I don't think it was as good as the Fresh Prince (which tackled more serious issues facing the Black community) and Family Matters (before the late 90s), which also tackled modern issues - whereas the Cosby Show was mostly lighthearted "I'm a eat a sandwich without telling Clair!" and had very special episodes about as much or less often as Roseanne. I also recall lots of voices in the Black community being annoyed at the whiteness being displayed by the Cosby cast, and the lack of realistic issues that Blacks in America faced at that time. The Cosby show is a great time, however I don't place it on a pedestal and I don't find it to be the paragon of Black American culture even though it is still an important American program nonetheless.

But anywyay...Roseanne tweeted a dumbass remark, and instead of admitting it and trying to rectify the situation she made it worse. Her show is now cancelled, she is jobless and cancelled and so are dozens of others who signed on to work with her in good faith. I don't know that I will watch any of her programs anymore if she actually is such a hypocrite in real life (spouting how inclusion and diversity is important then tweeting how a black woman is comparable to an ape), I would feel too uncomfortable. I guess I should feel uncomfortable watching Bill Cosby programs too since he is possibly a potential rapist, but a part of me still feels like he is just an easy target for a #MeToo witch hunt. My 2 cents.

It really, really sucks when you find this stuff out about someone and it really taints it all. I can’t recall a show off the top of my head, but there is a band this happened with last year where the singer was accused of shit with an underage girl. I absolutely loved this band since I was a teenager and a lot of the lyrics just hit me, but I haven’t listened to them since. And it really sucks.

I know what you mean. I haven't been able to watch a single thing with that 'damned filthy apes' guy after his 'cold, dead hand' incident. You know the guy. He played a guy named Ben and another named Moses. (Please don't ask me to write his name. I think my fingers would refuse.)

Me thinks you refer to Hedley. Such a shame that their career is over based on mere accusations. God knows that a woman would never throw herself at a famous rock band. Besides she hooked up with them for sex, she admitted that. She just didn't like it stuck up her pooper. I say, any person who admittedly meets up with a famous rock band for group sex kinda has to take some responsibility.

Well, Trump is demanding an apology from ABC.

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/trump-escalates-fight-abc-roseanne-131215510.html

To paraphrase Ron Weasley: "He needs to sort out his priorities."

No surprise, he won't condemn her and even he can't support her so he just switches focus.

Her ex-husband was on Anderson Cooper yesterday saying how he met Trump at some event after he'd split from Roseanne, and Trump said he was glad he wasn't with Roseanne anymore as she was gross, so much for friends.

No Trump, ABC does not owe you nor Roseanne an apology, but here's an idea; how about you demand an apology from all of the racist cops who shot-to-kill unarmed blacks in the last five years?

so...yesterday a friend of mine said on FB that she felt that Roseanne got a bum deal, that people jumped on the fire her bandwagon too fast and that Roseanne is a comedienne and people shouldn't be so sensitive yada yada yada.... She further stated and this is really got my goat, that we should remember the Dean Martin roasts of yesteryear and see how they spoke. Its like its part of our heritage, they did it so why can't she... At first I wasn't sure if I was understanding her, but the more I read it the more I understood. I responded that I could not wrap my head a round a second chance for Roseanne as there is no place for racism of any sort. It's not a joke. I was to told by two other friends to "stop it". I asked them to tell me what part of what Roseanne said is cool with them and what my new opinion should be...keep in mind these are people I have known most of my life, they were at my wedding....all I got is that it's ok that Cosby is on and that all us libs are the same. The last thing I said to them is that we weren't talking about Cosby and that if what Roseanne says is OK then there is not even a word to describe them except deplorable... I'm still in shock over this go around. I've separated myself from them and will not interact with them in the future.

^ I've been seeing the same, and worse on my Facebook feed.

Where is your outrage for what Samantha Bee said, or is that ok?

That's a separate matter. Women are not protected by the PC police. You can say "bitch" all day long and it's cool, because it only refers to women as lowly dogs. But you have to watch anything racial, as "nigger" is much worse, unless you're black and you use it in a cool way, like saying "bitches."

You must learn the hierarchy of offense.

This editorialist gets into that in her view of "intersectional politics."
