Re: My early pick for American Idol

That kid is INCREDIBLE! He's gotta be one of the best voice American Idol has ever seen. That interpretation of Heaven was just unbelievable. He's got an amazing tone to his voice, and boy does he know how to use it! He'll go all the way to the end no doubt.

I can't believe I've never heard of him before! I'm born and raised in Utah and haven't ever seen or heard of him!

Re: My early pick for American Idol

He's good but I there's something about him that I just don't like.

We'll see next week.

Re: My early pick for American Idol

I agree. And if you guys didn't notice, he actually had one of the back up singers crying while he was singing the song. At 16, this guy is amazing, and I really hope it doesn't happen like it did last year with Canadian Idol and Greg Neufield(amazing singer, had Enqrique going green), people thought they didn't need to vote, when they did(it let Brian Melo through)

Re: My early pick for American Idol

Yeah, this guy has moved up to my top few this year. I think he's a decent singer, and with a little work could be awesome. Not only that, but he's adorable, and my age, so if some strange parallel universe exists and I can cross over I might have a chance... or something, just let me dream...

That being said, I'm a little disappointed at a few things this year. From the "nerdy" guy (sorry, can't remember his name) not being picked for the top 24, to Josiah. I know he had a few problems dealing with the stress, but I really think that given a little bit of time he might have been good, and worse case scenario he doesn't get votes and goes home.

My biggest beef so far with this season is Carly Smithson. As taken from votefortheworst.com:

"The Carly Smithson plant debacle grows stronger by the day. We've done our research to find out something very interesting. Carly was signed to MCA records during the same time period that Randy Jackson was the senior vice president of A&R. Carly was at MCA in 1999. Randy started at MCA in 1998 and was there for 4 years. Should this mean an automatic disqualification for Carly? We think so! An American Idol wikipedia entry says that Thomas Lowe was disqualified last year "because it was publicized that he had been signed to BMG while Cowell was at the label, which is against Idol rules." If it is, we demand that Carly be disqualified. If it isn't against the rules, that's some shady, shady stuff going on."

It irks me every time I hear of a contestant that had any sort of album released before the competition, sorry, but that's how I feel. This show is supposed to be about people who have talent, but can't get a break and need a show like this to help them get put into the position to really go some where. It's not for people who had their shot and just didn't cut it. Even Taylor Hicks bothered me, he released not one but two albums prior to being on AI, but due to the fact that he never held a recording contract he technically didn't violate any rules. I don't know why, but I get really pissed off when I think about the fact that people who already have some amount of success in the industry are taking opportunities away from those who don't.

EDIT: For clarity's sake, I know that the two examples I gave (Carly and Taylor) aren't the only ones guilty of this, but Taylor is probably the most high profile (he won after all) and Carly is currently on my mind because she seems to be getting way more airtime than needed.

Re: My early pick for American Idol

yea um is david archuleta the guy thats like i think 17 years old , and hes eyes are kinda like blue color

if thats the one WOW i love him , i can eat him up lol ;)

Re: My early pick for American Idol

oh wait oops forget it i saw the video

Re: My early pick for American Idol

I've never seen even a single episode of the show, but, from the videos I've seen on YouTube, everyone seems to have the same singing style, and it's not a style I enjoy listening to. Do they ever give someone like Paul Potts a chance?

Re: My early pick for American Idol

Their goal is to find someone marketable and mainstream, though that would include country or R & B styles but not opera.

None of the Top 24 are currently under contract, and for those who were they never had enough success to be kept by their label so they are still looking for their big break.

Without Sanjaya2008 lurking in the wings, the other element of this show that I would be pleased to see leave is the poison known as VFTW.

Re: My early pick for American Idol

I understand why you guys are pissed about Josiah, but I feel that the judges were merciful with him putting him in the top 50. Maybe next year if he tries out again, he'll be more used to singing with a band, and will be able to get some sleep and actually practice the song he chose.

Re: My early pick for American Idol

David Archuleta is my fav as well. He is an amazing singer and he made my heart stop when he sang "Heaven". I love his soft voice and his adorable smile, and his laugh, and the way he moves on stage......oh wait!! I love him!! He will be getting my votes and I believe he will win.

Re: My early pick for American Idol

David Archuleta is the cutest!! I love him!!

Re: My early pick for American Idol

I think David Hernandez was pretty impressive.

But I'm still bummed that Drew Poppelreiter didn't make it to the final cut. I'm not a big fan of country music, but I can look at that pretty face forever.

Re: My early pick for American Idol

The way they stacked the cards with professionals this season really left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm refusing to watch it.

Idol Gives Back

Did anyone catch the show last night? I must say, I had no idea that Fergie had those kinds of vocals. Why have I not seen them before on her live performances.

Re: Idol Gives Back

I was very impressed as well, it gave the chills when I heard her sing, and then she sang with Heart... That was an awesome performance!

Re: Idol Gives Back

I thought the same thing! I didn't know she could BLOW like that! Her stage presence tends to be a bit dramatic, but boy she sang her butt off last night!

I was also very impressed with Terri Hatcher! She did pretty darn good with that song of Carrie's!

Actually I thought Terri's stage presence was better than Mariah's! Mariah just always looks so damn awkward while singing live!

Re: Idol Gives Back

I loved the show! 'Shout to the Lord' was the perfect end! Mariah had a ton of bum notes but she overall was really good. I have yet to see Fergie! I really need to!

Re: Idol Gives Back

Fergie is amazing!!!! she just kicks so much ass...

I loved mariahs outfit..

Re: Idol Gives Back

for what it's worth if you do a youtube search for: fergie voice, or fergie vocal, you'll find some clips of her more outstanding performances, fergie actually has a pretty good voice that she doesn't showcase on record as well as she does when she sings live

She Sings Finally So Good

Re: Idol Gives Back

Did not get to see Mariah...it got cut off.
