As for the votes, well eventually all of the weak ones will get weeded out, probably by the final five. Sanjaya will go, Haley will go, Phil will go. Which will probably leave the 2 guys and Lakisha, Melinda, and Jordin.
Very poignant indeed. That song just came alive under the circumstances of her leaving and her sadness over it.

For the last time this is NOT a singing competition, but a popularity contest. If this was a singing competition.. Sanjaya would have never made it past Hollywood. In fact you can add the entire top 24 to the list. Because quite frankly I wouldn't pay to see either of them perform live.
With America voting.. some will be kept in for looks, others will remain for having some real talent(likely to lose though). That's why Fantasia and others who are not very attractive made it far in the competition. I think you are misinterpreting what I said.. I didn't say that all the ones with good looks remain in the competition. But on occasion.. having a "certain" look will keep you there.
Haley is pretty good example of someone who is also staying in this competition because of her looks. She is the only good looking white girl left on the show.... she will remain for a couple of weeks. Why do you think Simon commented on her looks instead of her singing?? He knows he needs her to stay in for a few more weeks.
Bottom line.. the boy cannot sing. And the only reason he will remain in this competition is due to him being "white" and somewhat good looking.
Chris R Can sing. No body makes it that far based on looks, you have to be able to sing too. If it was a beauty contest then Nick, Jared, Alaina and Antonella would've made it into the top 12. Stephanie and Sabrina would've beat Melinda and Lakisha. Chris Sligh would've never made it in the top 12. Chris R gets good compliments almost every week because he sings on tune every week, he changes it and makes it interesting and he's a good performer. You may not like his voice but other people do. That shows how much you know about music.I'm pretty sure Taylor, Clay, Ruben and Fantasia didn't make it that far on their looks either. And Ace was nowhere near hot.

Is Chris a great singer?No,but he is good....if he can't sing,then neither can Justin ,because they are pretty dead on similar in sound and stage presence.I tend to think Chris is even hotter,though!

Exactly how I feel.....the top 5 should be the great African-American girls,they are each individually powerhouses but different....and the hot R&B boys,Blake and Chris.But as much as I love Lakisha,there is a decent risk she will be this year's Jennifer Hudson...better comparison yet Mandisa,a great voice who lost through indulgent or faulty choices her appeal and connection with the public.

I think Lakisha is just nervous. You know, she comes from a regular life and has a daughter apparently that she is responsible for. I've never seen arrogance. She just doesn't look like she is having too much fun.

The whole Sanjaya thing was funny for the first couple of weeks but now it's getting old...Gina didn't deserve to go this early in the competition...she had one of the best performances last night for sure! and last week as well. I really want America to take their blinders off and see Blake for real...he's NOT good...he does the same performance EVERY week and is not even really a strong performer. and cut the fuckin' beat boxing shit! The final four should be Jordin, Melinda, LaKisha and Chris. Chris is way more talented then Blake....possibly less stronger a performer then Blake...but he's improving each week....Blake is flatlining. Phil and Hailey need to go....Phil is boring...could have a good voice with the right song...but he hasn't picked that song yet. And Hailey turns everything to cheese....she's very Broadway and not a pop singer at all. And like I said before...Melinda and Lakisha have killer voices....but I feel like they won't have a really strong mainstream appeal to them...cause I don't know how their voices would sound with a contemporary song...they seem to have chosen a lot of older songs(obvi some of the themes make them...but like the Gwen week they both chose Donna Summer songs...they could have chosen something else).....those are my opinions

Everyone has their opinions, here's mine:
I LOVE Melinda. One, I think she can sing like crazy. Two, I find her personality onstage totally infectious. Every time, I just want to give her a hug. Three, and this is just personal, I identify with her being a person trying to overcome self-doubt even as others are encouraging her. (Also, her looks aren't a drawback for me, as they seem to be for some. So she ain't exactly leggy? This homo don't give a shit)
Blake is totally hot and has great charisma, but I think he comes off as really cocky, and I wish he could sing better. His performances are pleasant, but I think he's limited in what he can do. The Cure song he did a couple weeks back was spot on, though. He needs to find his sweet spot and stay there.
Haley needs to be on Broadway, not Idol. I like her voice, but she's absolutely not a pop star - it's just the wrong style.
Lakisha impressed me early on, but lately I've been like, "meh."
Chris is like Blake. Not quite as charismatic, but totally cute. Better vocal agility, although the unique sound of his voice doesn't translate well into most styles (like this week - he is NOT a crooner).
Jordin keeps getting better. Like Lakisha, but in reverse. I don't get enough of a connection with her personality (that's what I love most about Melinda), but like I said she's getting better, and FAST.
Phil sounds really nice under the right circumstances. But he doesn't sell the performances well at all, and sometimes he just sounds dreadful. And on this one, I'll confess to being a little superficial - I get a really awkward vibe from him, and the skinny bald guy look doesn't usually do it for me.
Which leaves Sanjaya.
Sometimes he's not that painful to listen to. Like when he sang "You Really Got Me," which fit his raspy voice pretty well. Other times, it's just really apparent, all the things he's not capable of. His voice is interesting to listen to, but every performance is just messy and awkward, vocally. I'd call him a decent but VERY limited singer.
On the other hand, he's cute as a button. Diana Ross said he was full of love and joy, or something like that. This week was a stylistic misstep if you ask me (I love that song, but it was all wrong for him), but other times, when he lets his exuberant side show, he's very appealing.
Setting aside the conspiracy theories, this is a popularity contest, with singing being only one component in people's voting decisions. Sanjaya sings just well enough that he's still cute and appealing to a lot of people, so I'm not surprised at all that he's still here.

gina's gone but we all know by now that either haley or sanjaya should be going home. sanjaya first, of course. anyway, it's the same old song as every other year. there are the 'shocker' eliminations (tamyra gray from season 1, jennifer and latoya from 3, nadia turner from 4, and mandisa from 5) and the lame singers who somehow manage to even crack into the top 12 (or 10 counting season one) and then go on for a while (nikki mckibbin from season 1, carmen rasmusen from 2, jasmine trias from 3, and so on).

I can't believe that American had the audacity to vote off that poor girl (Gina) and keep Sanjaya in. He ain't even the greatest singer. I think people are keeping him on because he's "cute" which is annoying as hell. The most important thing we have to look at is this: What would Sanjaya's CD sound like? Yeah that's right. It would probably suck. Who'd want to hear him sing anyway? Once again, it's sad that Gina got voted off. My faith in America dropped a little when it happened. She could mop the floor with Sanjaya.
