American Idol (Season 9) [merged]

Here's how I'd rank the performances this week:

EXCELLENT
1. Casey

GOOD
2. Crystal
3. Siobhan
4. Katie (I know y'all!)

OK
5. Tim
6. Lee

NOT GOOD
7. Mike

TERRIBLE
8. Aaron & Andrew (tie)

The X Factor is going to be great, I'm in the middle of watching season 4 UK and I can honestly say that the show is much better than AI. If they keep the same format, it will for sure be more successful.

X Factor is going to be amazing. Simon has full control so you know he's going to do everything in his power to make sure the show will be amazing.

I think they wasted the save on Mike.

I can see both sides of this. I was totally with my boys Salemite and blacksyringe on Michael Gokey for most of the season, and I still don't really love him (his personality grates on me) but I have to admit he didn't deserve the boot this week.
Oh, of course not.

That said, I certainly wasn't saddened by the idea of seeing him go. The frustrating part is that we'll probably be stuck with him until Top 3 now, because tonight was a fluke (IMO), and now that his fans have had the fear of God put into them, they'll be voting like there's no tomorrow.

LOL! Looks like you despise Mike as much as I dislike Tim.

Even though you don't like him...you have to admit, he can outsing several of the other contestants at this point.

The biggest SHAME of all is that Tim's ass is STILL there.

This is when error in allowing the public to vote starts to come to the forefront. Tim is this season's Sanjaya to the max.

lol...agreed.

He'll most likely survive the double elimination next week but Top 3 is still in doubt; Matt Giraud was spared the week after the Save was used on him...but all he got was that week. I do think Big Mike is different though because Matt had been in the Bottom Three a lot all season, whereas Mike hasn't been. It's very possible his fan base just got complacent this week (though I still don't know how Andrew keeps staying).

Not quite.

I totally respect your right to dislike the guy and his performances (taste is after all, subjective) but if the judges' comments -- especially Simon's -- are used as a barometer (and we have no other barometer besides our own personal tastes), then Tim has given three good performances while Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens have given JUST ONE.

Tim isn't Sanjaya because the latter rarely broke his bad streak with a good performance. And he never got the kind of praise Simon gives to Tim on his few good weeks. Tim gets all this attention -- even negative attention -- because of his looks. But the truth is, this season's Sanjaya (if there is one) is Andrew Garcia. He's just so boring, no one has pointed it out yet.

I wouldn't call Andrew this year's Sanjaya...he just is kind of there each week, doesn't leave much of any kind of impression.Sanjaya was flamboyant and over the top and content to provoke attention with his outrageousness. You noticed how bad he was.You couldn't help but to.

Andrew barely registers when he performs.Though I enjoyed the piece with Lee regarding their"bromance".It was cute and Andrew was likable for once...funny seeing him doing the clap on thing to shut the lights in the room they share.

UGH so this means that this season will be even longer. Can Crystal just win already?

I think what I dislike most about Mike, aside from his overall cocky attitude, is his macho demeanor.

For one thing, he doesn't take criticism well. You can tell it pisses him off. Instead of being receptive to other people's opinions, he starts puckering his lips and pushing out his chest like some pissed off peacock. Didn't he challenge Simon to a pec contest last night after he criticized his performance? Even tonight after he was saved, instead of looking humble and thankful for getting a reprieve, he started posturing and strutting like he was ready to take someone's head off. And the way he's constantly picking people up? It's old.

To me, he comes across as one of those macho "muscles make a man" types. That's how my brother-in-law is and I haven't liked him since the day I met him. People who feel the need to constantly prove their masculinity by posturing or strutting or flexing or picking people up just grate on my nerves, and that's how I see Big Mike. He's a douche. Plus, he's not that good of a singer. I mean, he's not terrible by any means, but vocalists like him are a dime a dozen.

So, Andrew's even worse than Sanjaya? I'm totally willing to cosign that.

You nailed it babe. He was even doing that shit LAST NIGHT WHEN AMERICA ELIMINATED HIM. What a tool. It's the reason why I can't like him, even when he's actually good.

I'm really opposed to the Save in general. I hated it last year and I hate it now.

Am I the only who thinks last night was a total setup and just a reason to get the judges' save out of the way??? And what's with Big Mike beating on his chest like King Kong???

lol....certainly wouldn't doubt it.

lol...can't believe so many people are buying into this whole Big Mike/save manufactured drama

theory 1: ratings and money...."america" voting out of the favorites + judges saving him = instant water cooler talk and more people calling in to make sure their favorite is safe

theory 2: Idol Gives Back is in 2 weeks ...so they might night kick off anyone that week, forcing another 2 people to get kicked out...so by that point its final 5...so the save would be useless...which brings us back to the point of using the save from my first theory

I love Big Mike....decent enough singer and I love big thick football player size men...and I was pretty upset when he was in the bottom three...but my bf pretty much said "they're only doing this to use the save after was wasted last year"

Tim is coasting on 2 things actually. One is the obvious-to-anyone appearance.

However, there is something else.

This show has become a complete joke. Only it isn't funny or entertaining. However, Tim has the ability to take this show and throw in at least a little entertainment value. The others can't do that. Singing not even of a quality I'd pay $1 off a clearance rack isn't going to do it. Nor are the backstories and tidbits about each one of them. Such as Mike wasting time in hollywood that could be showing singing so we can see the 'sacrifice' he made to be there. I can't stand him. Period. There is no way in hell or heaven or earth or anywhere else I'd miss my child's birth so I could be on a dying karaoke TV show. And we are supposed to LIKE him for that. I admire his wife, and that is only because she stood by the man who wasn't around for one of the biggest moments in THEIR married life. Their first child.

But hey, going on a karaoke TV show is going to better their lives. So it is worth it.

Uh-huh...

So anyway, Tim Urban has his looks and the fact that the show is a joke. More and more people are backing him for that. People like me. I think he is as good as idol deserves. To be shackled with the one they wanted gone after the top 24. The one they ONLY picked as fodder to be tossed away and with no concern for his singing ability.

I can just see it: The preordained winner Crystal Bowersox and not-meant-to-be-here Tim Urban in the top two dramatic showdown after Siobhan Magnus shrieks pointlessly through a song that gets her knocked out of the running. Crystal barely puts forth the effort because she knows her victory was decided from the beginning, but everyone else, seeing the BS in the show votes for Tim and she is saved from being tied to Idol and is able to have a better career because of it. Meanwhile, Idol is stuck with Tim, who just laughs as they try to shackle him and mold him to what they want. Laughing all the way to the bank as the final winner of a show that went out with a wimper.

The writer in me got the best of me there.

Crystal was great tonight

Tim was actually pretty good tonight...still not amazing vocals...but it was a really nice performance

I thought Siobahn was great tonight...don't understand what the judges are talking about with her...I think out of everyone they are being the most confusing with her

Andrew needs to go home...that was horrible

Aaron....vocals were good...but it was just wrong for him

Katie was pretty good...she's def. improving with her vocals

Michael was nice....but boring as usual

Lee was just mediocre for me tonight....it was good...but I really can't stand that song...but he did something right cause I could actually listen to his version

and I am completely blanking on blonde ponytail guys name...but he did the same thing he does week after week...getting boring

Who else thought a lot of the contestants improved tonight? Crystal was awesome! Tim sounded good... kind of plesantly surprised that all the judges said something nice to him! He's still pretty... lol!!

I noticed that as well. I think it was from the actually helpful advice that Adam gave. It seems all the celeb judges (from what is shown) only say nice stuff, and sugarcoat everything. Adam called it as he saw it, and gave advice that he felt they needed. They all are talented, they just needed that push. Just wish a few of them actually pushed themselves harder, as some of the performances fell a little flat.

Oh, and I've rewatched the 'tongue' moment about ten times now, and it still is hilarious. Just wish I knew what the judges did to make Matthew Morrison laugh so hard in the background of that moment.
