for some reason, this cycle's seemed really off. i hated it when they moved to LA for cycle 4 (and kept it there until now), but now i'm so used to seeing sunny socal on TV that i miss that they're not in LA anymore.
the whole ny thing has lost its appeal - which is ironic because NY is actually a fashion capital and is where the show should've stayed to begin with.
i'm not sure whether i'm still reeling from the hoax and disaster that was cycle 9 (and cuntleisha's sketchy win), but i just haven't gotten into this season's chicks.
there are fewer "ghetto" black girls (here's a soundbyte of shaya explaining the different uses of "ghetto," care of rich's fourfour blog, which features some antm reviews:

there were only 3 ghetto girls to begin with - atalya was voted off, and that just leaves marvita and stacy ann (fatima doesn't count, obviously, since she uses "ghetto" in a bad way).
the ghetto black girls really are the essence of this show - c7 monique, c5 bre, c3 tocarra, c8 dionne, to list a few.
on top of that, paulina - who totally stole the show when she walked in during judging with her rail-thin frame and real-model-apperance - delegitimizes the show's campiness.
i feel like she's actually offering real, unbiased, helpful critique - and she LOOKS like a real working supermodel.
but this show has become the complete opposite of that. it's all about tyra's psychoanalytical tearing down of these bitches, it's about tyra's self-absorbed rhetoric, it's all about tyra and her vagina-arms and cheese factor.
so with paulina on the panel, it's become more serious. and i was totally cringing every time something campy came out of nigel, tyra, or miss jay's mouth - because they're really just making fools of themselves in front of someone with some legit modeling credentials (twiggy and tyra have legit credentials too, but paulina strikes me as someone who wants to take this show seriously)
on top of that - could they have cast any more eastern-european-looking girls? clearly, they were playing to paulina coming on the show (anya, claire, "amis," katarzyna - um, kartazyna could pass for paulina's daughter!)
it's too bad they didn't bring back c8's natasha - she would've totally fit in to this cycle's batch of girls, but then again - she wouldn't have been as special because MOST OF THEM LOOK EASTERN EUROPEAN.
so yeah - it's really sort of lost its appeal now. i don't think i'm going to really get as much into it as i had in the past.
too bad - i was really looking forward to seeing how they would redeem themselves after c9. the move to ny was promising, but didn't turn out to be as interesting as i hoped.
their apartment sucks, they're sleeping in bunk beds, and the new form of "TYRA MAIL" annoys the hell out of me.
