And Let's not forget about the other Deplorables

Yeah, good luck with that :rotflmao:

He was just re-elected in November. Too bad he didn't propose that idiotic big-government idea before November. It might have changed history.

That might be funny if the SC wasn't what it is. They don't care if people don't want their Sharia Law, they'll force it on us anyway.

Everyone should be paying attention to the things they say on the religious right because there is a very real possibility it will end up before the court, and they WILL end US JUB and all the gay porn will be the first to go - for the children.

^ Does he truly think/believe that the United States can dictate their rules to the entire world?

Of course they do. It's a technical question of how to force censorship, but there are plenty of examples around the world of governments doing just that. They really aren't referring to the whole world anyway, they just don't consider anyone else. In fact, they'd make all kinds of political boasts about how "moral" they made the US and how deviant the rest of the Western World.

Lee's proposal is just another right wing performance piece in order to gain a platform going into 2024.

He knows that trying to do this will fail, but that isn't the point. The point of these types of bills is to get the base that actually cares about this to send money and go out and vote.

I suspect that we will see a lot of these really weird niche demo bills introduced by the far right fringe.

Here's the issue, it's ridiculous and "just" a stunt until it isn't. Just like Roe. That MO was true under the old norms, but the game is different; if any of this gets in front of the court such as the ban on contraception funding and the morning-after pill, which have been judicially attacked in Texas ALREADY and are headed to the SC, they have a very real chance of succeeding.

It's only a performance until suddenly it isn't.

We must take these things seriously.

Also, on the agenda are resurrecting sodomy laws, legalizing LGBTQ discrimination such as disallowing gay teachers in schools, and so on, this is not hypothetical, it's things the far right has said outright and is in the process of pushing into the courts.

The SC will cry "States Rights" and allow it, then turn right around and say that states with these kinds of discrimination can sue or sanction people in other states that don't. Just like abortion bans are supposedly left up to each state but creating gun regulation is not. There is a case in the courts right now where a red state is trying to sanction a doctor in a blue state who performed an abortion for a rape victim who crossed the state line to get one. That will end up in front of the SC.

What do we think Uncle Thomas and the Catholic Chistoban Crazy are going to do?

There is no doubt that the US SC is a total dumpster fire at this point.

What will it take to expand the court?

It will take clear majorities in both the House and the Senate and another Democratic administration with the will to not only increase the number of justices but to impeach the ones already confirmed.

Thomas should have been impeached, so to Scalia. One clearly has conflicts of interest the other is clearly legislating partisan policy.

That will take commitment from all of us to get off our pillowy posteriors and do the work.

Starting with writing or calling your Senators and Reps - I already did

Well, you might need a new passport since the Texas Republican Party is saying that they will secede from the US if the Democrats pack SCOTUS. ;)

newly elected gay Republican's history is a lie, and there are serious indications of fraud.

Never trust a quisling.

This story is getting really delicious.

They've also found an interview where he claimed that 4 of his employees were killed in the Pulse nightclub shooting. Apparently, that was a lie, too.

His lawyer responded on Twitter to the accusations with a bizarre Trump-y statement. $5 says that there's no lawyer and Santos wrote the response himself:

Politico says that the Churchill quote is made-up; Churchill never said it.

Santos has said that he will vote for McCarthy for speaker, so it is likely that the Republicans will do nothing and will allow Rep-elect Santos to be seated, even though it has become apparent that he's a habitual liar.
