And the Affordable Health Care Exchanges are UP

I'm thinking the right wingers are intentionally calling the line to try and throw a monkey wrench in the startup. Can't be proven yet but I'm sure there will be something exposed about it.

Tea party activists have infiltrated HHS posing as ninjas hiding in air vents during the day and tampering with HHS servers at night.

Get a grip. HHS was not prepared. Look who's the head -- her main purpose as HHS was to promote abortion, she's out of her league.

Obviously, creating a denial of service would be the first tactic the Kochs would use.

Don't let the tin foil hat get too tight on your brain.

I had trouble trying to decide which thread to post this in.. Then WTF, any of them is good enough for this news.

Wall Street, Chamber of Commerce Turning on GOP Extremists

by TomP

TPM reports, in an article titled "With Traditional GOP Allies Defecting, Big Business Takes Sides With Obama," that Big Business is entering into the fray and it is not on the side of the Tea Party.

Having failed to persuade their traditional Republican allies in Congress to avert a government shutdown, business leaders fear bigger problems ahead, and they're taking sides with a Democratic president whose health care and regulatory agenda they have vigorously opposed.

Hasn't anyone figured this would be the case? Or should I say Everyone has figured this out.

Republican shutdown will cost the economy $300 million a day

by Laura ClawsonFollow

The government shutdown will cost the American economy $300 million a day, according to one estimate—and that's just for starters. If House Republicans refuse to pass a clean continuing resolution, keeping the government shut down, the costs will go up.

Where did you get your Ninja costume? I wasn't aware they made them in your XXXXXL size.

That reminds me of a principle I use when making trails or building just about anything for public use: never design for the intelligent -- design for the idiots and the foolish.

That's actually the precise design principle taught in basic computer programming and such as well. "Design it with a total idiot in mind, and design it to assume people are going to hit 5 when told to hit enter." Granted software is really really complicated to get "perfect" or make sure it doesn't have any bugs and to make it as user-friendly as possible, but the same basic design is intended to assume stupidity or user error.

I checked for a comparable plan that I have through work. Platinum
My employer insurance is 12k. No deductible.
Platinum would cost me 5k with a 6k deductible.
Rates are based on location and age, If you smoke add in another 2k.
They did ask about pre-existing conditions.
If insurance through employer is available - NO subsidy.
With out of pocket expenses both plans cost the same, no savings.
I had a dr. appt this morning, They hired a nurse practitioner and are being incorporated into a larger practice.
I asked how the ACA is affecting them and the reply was - MOVE to Canada.
Decent coverage is still unaffordable for those that need it. The cheapest plan is all but worthless

^ Excellent post, chuck.

Yes, exactly.

The cheap plans will be what low income people will go for, since it is all they can afford (if that). But, the cheap plans are worthless. They cover only ~60% of your healthcare expenses. Since these plans will be bought by those who can barely afford them in the first place, these people still will not have health care, since they are still responsible for almost half of their medical expenses. That means these people will not visit their doctors for routine care, since they won't be able to afford the deductibles. The cost savings achieved by catching diseases early will not be realized, since these people will not be getting routine visits. They still not be able to recover from the cost of catastrophic illness, since they will still be responsible for a huge chunk of that cost. These plans will serve only to fatten the insurance industry and widen the gap between rich and poor in America. The cheaper plans do not provide access to healthcare for people who do not now have it.

The platinum plans are the only plans worth considering, but they are extremely expensive. Competitive with the private sector, certainly, but nevertheless very expensive.

That was good advice. What the USA needs is comprehensive healthcare for every disease for every citizen.

What the USA needs is a Canadian-style healthcare system, not Obamacare.

In the fullness of time.

No need to denigrate the beginnings.

That's more or less my sentiment as well. I agree T-Rexx is describing what most progressives want, but I think anyone who is surprised logging onto the website and not finding comprehensive national single-payer healthcare coverage must have missed a few years of Republican filibustering. Unfortunately the Republicans have done a good job of first stopping comprehensive affordable care for everyone, while at the same time making everyone think a "super socialist" coverage system is what Obama was bringing... creating this situation now where people seem surprised that they're not getting the proposal that died years ago.

that we have a Republican health plan - that the Republicans are now against - is lamentable - but rather that than nothing.

It's exactly what we should have expected from a system written by people who consider profit of more value than people. The Heritage Foundation is propertarian, not conservative, no matter what they claim. They suffer from the Ayn Rand fallacy, which declares that those who can "produce wealth" -- and those who have it -- are the only real humans, and the rest are fated to struggle and suffer so that the few can rise above.

Randians accuse liberals of being elitists, but liberals don't hold a candle to them.

A good look at how the exchanges are working nationally and by some states.

Obamacare Enrollment Is Beating Expectations

By Tara Culp-Ressler on October 1, 2013 at 1:04 pm

On Tuesday, Obamacare’s state-level insurance marketplaces opened to the public, marking the start of a six-month enrollment period that will stretch into March. Although there’s been some confusion around the health law’s new marketplaces — also known as “exchanges” — initial reports suggest that a significant number of people are seeking out information about reform. States across the country are overwhelmed with huge amounts of traffic to their new exchange websites.

Here are some of the early details about Obama enrollment emerging on a state and national level (this post will be updated as the day continues):

I believe that a lot of the problems - mechanics and cost - are the result in large part to the failure of the progressives to realize that broad health care could become law. The default plan became the Republican proposals, especially after Massachusetts did not come a cropper; the failure of the Hillary Clinton health initiative did not seem to invigorate the troops either.

Accordingly we are left with a flawed but workable law. Now we need to get to work pressing for the improvements that will bring greater inclusion and lower costs.

I have been saying from the beginning since the public option was dropped, There is no such thing as affordable insurance.
The ACA was based on Romneycare, But, Obama pushed for this and it was passed on on a straight Democratic vote.
Republicans tried to vote it out 42 times and shut down the Govt. to get rid of it.
Before we knew the cost, All I have heard is - Thank you President Obama.
They are still saying it is affordable, But the costs go up simply because I live in Philly, am turning 50 and have a pre-existing condition.
The more you need it, The more it will cost you.
Like it or not, Obama and the Democrats own the ACA

A cousin of mine posted this on FB this AM and was wondering if it is true. Of course I see lies lies lies, but this is something the Breitbart, Beck, Fox Snooze or their ilk would say.
I am wondering if any of you have happened across it. I checked Snopes, FactCheck and Wash Post has a site of false Obamacare news.
DID YOU KNOW...
Even your children belong to the government. Under Obamacare, on October 1, 2013, CPS field agents, armed with a manual published by Human Health and Services and codified under Obamacare will begin operating under the power granted to them by Obamacare. Subsequently, they will be able to conduct forced home visits without a warrant. Things such as a (yet undefined) bad grade, missing more than 5 days in school in any one month, can get a parent to be declared guilty of educational neglect. Having a gun or beer in your house can get your children removed from your custody. Even the traditional act of grounding your child for misbehavior will get you declared to be guilty of “isolation neglect” and subject your child for removal from your authority and your home. If you are a parent and you have not heard of this provision of Obamacare, I would suggest you read the 110 page manual that was created by the United Nations. This is the HHS/CPS field manual that goes into effect this week!

And before I even get the damn thing posted I think I've found the source of it. Another Alex Jones.

That's because this is still a private, profit-driven, private health insurance-based healthcare system in the U.S.

That didn't change or start with the ACA. There are still real improvements in this reform, such as the fact that before you could have paid your premiums and then been dropped at any time on the thinnest pretext of claiming something was or could have been pre-existing.

Yeah there are amazing portions that most americans agree should be law. Like not being dropped when you get sick like these slimy fucking shithole insurers were doing, staying on the parents plan while in college since you cant afford your own coverage, no ability to deny coverage....

The unfortunate thing is most americans associate the good with the Affordable Care Act and the bad with Obamacare. WHy? Because the only truly reigning consensus is that Americans will buy anything if you say it enough times.
