Another Hollywood celebrity to come out on May 5th [Chely Wright]

I don't think it's gonna be a huge start like people are mentioning. I have a feeling we are all gonna be disappointed.

I suppose it's possible, but I hope not. I'm sick of celebrities who don't come out until their careers are over and they have nothing to lose. I'd like to see a celebrity brave enough to come out at the height of their popularity. The hope would be that it would start a trend.

If one celebrity comes out, it's easy for Hollywood to throw them under the bus. But if all of the closeted gay celebrities came out (and make no mistake; there's a lot of closeted gay celebrities) it would be hard to throw them all under the bus.

On the other hand, as wishful as this thinking might be, I really hope that it's a teen idol along the lines of Taylor Lautner, Zac Efron or one of the Jonas Bros. And no, it isn't because they're hot. It's because I think that seeing a teen idol brave enough to risk their career by standing up and being who they are might encourage more young people to come out sooner, rather than later.

Ah, I hear the Trolls gleefully skipping out from under their bridges and lighting their torches. (*cough*Willie Boy*cough cough.*) Well you can just turn right back around. I am NOT saying that I think Taylor, Zac or any of the Jonai are gay. I was just using them as an example.

Did they specify that the celebrity was going to come out as "gay," or could it be "bi"? Because most of this thread is definitely wishful thinking or naming guys that could at most be bi. If Clooney comes out (which I HIGHLY doubt it, since he's still trying to get people to talk about him and that Elizabetta chick), he'd come out as bi (which I believe he is).

Yes there is a lot of wishful thinking going on, but who are you to say that they "could at most be bi?" Unless you're intimately acquainted with the personality mentioned, you don't know any better than anyone else in this thread.

no need to wait...its already out. National Enquirer put out the article first a week before its competitor People magazine. Its non other than
our mission impossible hero "TOM CRUISE".....ta da!!!

Things don't change over night. NPH's journey out of the closet surprisingly coincided with the reemergence of his career. Not only that but it happened at a time when he was becoming most known as a character actor with a focus on womanizing/'manly' type characters (Barney of course and as 'himself' in the Harold & Kumar series). Instead of being upset that the world hasn't changed overnight why not focus on the bright spots.

I couldn't help but note that your examples tend to be young boys with tweenage girl fanbases, and careers being 'wholesome.' They're young boys who may or may not be gay, may or may not know their sexuality, likely have been hounded by 'rumors' of homosexuality since before they were managing their own careers (which has it's own affect of immediately creating a negative connotation and birthing a pattern of defensiveness) .

When you look at the state of openness in Hollywood, however, it has come along leaps and bounds in just a few short years. A little over a decade ago when Ellen bravely went where no sitcom star had gone before there weren't even gay characters on TV. Today you have Chris Colfer portraying the struggles of growing up gay on one of the highest rated network shows.

The reason it seems like 'tired' or 'washed-up' celebs are the ones coming out is because when current younger stars like Chris, T.R. Knight, or Luke MacFarlane hit the scene there is no 'coming out' Luckily these gents didn't have to hide for years but anyone who's 'coming out' by nature has to have been 'in' and there for has to have previously been in the public eye.

Not sure if this has already been discussed as I haven't looked at every post in this thread....

Saw on another site that this rumored individual is Queen Latifah.

Lets back up here. Are we SURE that a celeb is going to come out on May 5th? Has anyone scheduled a press conference on this? I am beginning to wonder if this is just a rumor run amok. I have not heard anything on "straight" news sites about this. Just constant reports, repeated over and over basically saying the same thing, on only gay sites. Watch nothing happen now, on May 5th.
I do not watch The View, have they confirmed that they will have a celeb come out next week on their show?

According to a post at Zap2it blog . (sorry can't post URL - it's in the dishrag blog.

it is a musician and a female. The court yard hounds are scheduled on the view could it be one of them?

Well if it was in the NE it must be [strike]true[/strike]a crock of shit!

Interesting fact about Tom Cruise - Doesn't anyone find it odd that when he and Nicole Kidman were married, they never had kids of their own. They adopted. Now Nicole Kidman has kids with Keith Urban biologically, and Katie Holmes did get pregnant...but with whose baby? Never understood why Nicole and Tom never had biological kids.

Rumor had it that Kate Holmes's baby was fathered by Chris Klein, her former fiance. If you track the timetable and look at the evidence, you'll quickly learn that the kid DEFINITELY ain't Toms, and is very possibly Chris's. I'm not a big conspiracy guy, but this one makes total sense.

It couldn't be that Tom is impotent. That would go against the desires of so many gay men, so it could never be the case!

I cant wait to see....whose the "drama queen". and how many ppl gonna be disappointed.
But I bet it's a female, because that's more hollywood friendly...
A man come out = career suicide

The thing is, I just don't think it's that big of a deal to be a lesbian in this country. People don't seem to care nearly as much as they care about famous guy being gay. Hell, bisexuality and lesbianism is practically encouraged in women...especially attractive women like Shelby Lynne. It might turn away some of the redneck country fans, but it's not like she's a household name anyway.
