Another Hollywood celebrity to come out on May 5th [Chely Wright]

I agree with the above posters... this is a big let down.

A female music star is NOT a Hollywood Celebrity, in my book. Whoever comes out AFTER this better be a guy-current star-big shot, in Hollywood.
When are "they" going to realize attitudes will only change when people that "straight people" can relate to, do come out!

Sadly, I think most of "them" are only interested in self-gain. If a closeted celebrity has effectively established a heterosexual persona and is banking on it, fuck changing social attitudes and human equality, they're going to keep at the facade as long as the cash keeps flowing in. I think that the only time any celebrity would consider coming out is when his star has faded, and he wants to put himself back in the spotlight.

Damn "Fast & Furious 4" for being a commercial success. It looks like a certain action star is scuttling back into Narnia. ;)

Booo. Goddamn lesbians ;)

Oh well. We should get used to being the less-cool version of gay.

I agree with previous posters that it feels like a letdown. Not to belittle Chely but I thought it would be someone I've heard of like Queen Latifah or something. Kevin Spacey would have been nice but ah well.

It's definitely a huge letdown for me, too. I read online that she had one hit 11 years ago and is getting ready to either release her bio or start to write it and she's also going to release her first new music in over 5 years. If it had to have been a country singer, why couldn't it have been either one of the guys from Lady Antebellum (Dave Haywood or Charles Kelley)

We dont need celebreties coming out

We need our uncles, Doctors, Mom's, police officers, guy who lives next door. To come out of the fucking closet

Hollywood is simply a reflection of where we are at as a country. They want to make money and they are not going to do something that America will not grasp on to/Can relate to/Wants to be a part of.

Okay now that I am done playing the other side...

If Chris Evans says he is Bi/gay I will die a happy Human

The only country artist to come out of the closet?

K.D. Lang! Hello! Did Chely forget to date her?

Country Singer John Rich Is An Asshole!

chelyjohn__oPt.jpg

Now that country star Chely Wright has come out, she discusses the difficulty she faced coming to grips with her self. And that includes a difficult time with bigoted fellow singer, John Rich.

“Early in my life I went through what I think a lot of gay people go through, thinking that I could change and pray it away,” said Chely.

As she tells Access Hollywood, her lowest point came during a discussion with Rich. “He said, 'You're not gay are you?!' I said, 'No, John, I'm not.' He said, 'Good, thank God.' And that began a spiral for me. I had a meltdown shortly after that.”

It go so bad that she considered shooting herself with a loaded gun.

“I was looking at myself in a mirror…as I was about to do it. I just looked at myself and something snapped and I started to cry…and I realized I have too much to live for. I may lose my career in country music, that will break my heart, but it's okay. I have a lot of different pieces of my heart that matter and that's what I've come to learn.”

So brave.

Chely is extremely talented - I've been following her career since I was about ten. She's fucking hot too, so it's a nice change from all the manly-looking lesbians - shows the heteros that gay women and men don't necessarily fit the stereotypes.

I don't believe that. I think people stereotype gay men but not women. You mostly see fem woman in the media who are gay or bi. It's become so popular now for women to have a lesbian experience and than openly say they had one. It's all very sex in the city. Men don't have that. I met a girl who didn't believe I was gay cause I was just a regular guy. She had only met fem gay men who did hair and nails. What we really needed was a masculine male celebrity to come out. A male country star would have been fantastic. This is a who cares moment in my book.

Yes I agree with you. I definitely believe that gay men are stereotyped more often than lesbians. I've had friends who were very straight-acting, and the girls just wouldn't leave them alone, believing that they could change the guys because they didn't "appear" gay.

Yes big big let down. When a "blind" item is issues it usually gives enough info that you could figure it out or at least have a very good idea of who.
I thought
"gay action hero" was a good tip....but obviously not.
I am happy for her, but have no idea who she is

was expecting someone much bigger...a huge star is known well around the world...I'm sure alot outside the U.S will not know....damn..now back to hoping some Hot hollywood dude will eventually come out.....:D

I just saw her on Today. I have heard of her, but I worked on a country music tv show. So, for someone who doesn't like country music I know way too much about it.

She's not a bad singer though. Her biggest hits were probably: Shut and Drive (video has a really cute guy in it) and Single White Female.

She said on Today that country music had never had an out performer. But, she's wrong...k.d. lang. I know she has said she never considered music country, but that was where they marketed her.

Speaking of k.d. lang...Songs from the 49th Parallel is a great cd if you've never heard it.

I listen to Country Music some, and this is a what the fuck moment on who she is. She must have been a one hit wonder. The Lavender Closet in Hollywood, do not bet on that one being broken down anytime soon.

And, very few of us can say we were honestly shocked with Ricky Martin coming out. Changing prevailing societal attitudes is generations away. And, while, it would be great if more doctors, teachers, and lawyers, and every day folk would come out, at the end of the day Celebrity in the USA goes further than Politician, Scientist, or what have you.

Uhmmm, they stereotype gay women ALL THE TIME man. You've never heard people calling Rosie O'Donnell and Ellen more "butch" than normal, or the constant jokes about Billie Jean King? Just because Portia De Rossi is one of the most noticeable feminine lesbians doesn't mean they all are.

Stereotypes comes from some place truthful. But that's not the majority. There is always gonna be a butch dyke and a fem gay. But fem girls all seem open to having a same sex encounter and straight men encourage that. The opposite is not true. If a woman hears her boyfriend has been with a man they get turned off. Not every woman but most. Women do have is easier in this arena. Men have to go on the DL. You don't see hot studs make out with each other at bars. Unless you are an England's rugby team, lol. Is that the team with all those hot videos?

Just thought I post a link to: "Shut Up and Drive". This is a pretty old video and she looks a bit different now.

Yes I agree with you on this too. I was in an open relationship with a bisexual man, and any time he told one of his girlfriends that he was bi, they went scrambling for the nearest exit.
