Araucaria Appreciation Thread

(*8*) Happy Monday, John

We have the same trouble with contractors here in the desert. When I moved into this house, I wanted a covered walkway beside the garage enclosed for a workshop. The contractor said it would take 2 1/2 days. It took him 11 months to complete the job. ](*,)

In the past, there was little entertainment here and when a church or other group had concerts, few showed up. That changed when the casino opened and now has entertainers, (mostly tribute bands) they draw a crowd.

Hi John!

Cleveland was fun! We did a lot...a Dance Cleveland performance by the excellent Vertigo Dance Company from Israel, a very queer and funny play, "Stonewallin'" set in Virginia and centered on Stonewall Jackson. And a Guardians baseball game. They beat the A's 6-3. I like the new team name...and the actual team is good this year, leading the division.

I'm now in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. It's sunny and cool and lots of tourists are out with me gazing at those awesome falls. I'm at a sweet simple Airbnb walking distance from everything.

Back to the USA Wednesday...for a couple days in Rochester, NY, then home for all of May!

Hope you're fine and enjoying springtime!

Good Thursday evening Frankie, Loner, Gary, Thad, and Paul! (*8*)

Frankie, that sounds like a bad situation with your Grandmother and your family. Why doesn't she have a will? The way you say your family is, it sounds like things could get ugly very fast. My prayers for you, your Grandmother, and your family.

Thad, I'm glad you're enjoying your trip to Niagara Falls and Canada. I have never been there, and it seems like a fairly easy trip to make, even from Florida.

Gary, I hope you're doing well, and the heat hasn't been getting you down.

Well, today I got back to typical activities. I finished fertilizing my fruit trees today. I usually do the first fertilization in April, and the month is almost over, so I figured I'd better get it done. In a way it was good to get back to doing the things I want to do, since I've had a lot of crap sidetracking me lately.

Yesterday I had to replace my modem. Comcast had sent me a new modem a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't feel like messing with it. Also, I kept getting messages on my computer that I had weak security, and that I needed to reset my modem. And on top of all that, on Saturday I stopped receiving my emails. So I finally decided to take care of all that crap. But the only instructions from Comcast was to download their app. What a pain in the ass! So I tried to download it on my phone, and I got all kinds of weird messages and dead ends. Then I get messages that Apple Pay wants me to fill out all my information. WTF? I'm already a subscriber, I shouldn't have to pay anything for it! Anyway, I had to pull up Comcast on my computer, and I finally got things to work after fooling around with it for a couple of hours. It seems that the security messages finally cleared up. And I finally was able to get my emails turned back on in my settings, which I had assumed was connected with the security issue, but the settings must have switched off at the same time, causing confusion. At least I was finally able to turn my emails back on.

I've been dealing with all that other crap, that I haven't been able to get back to my driveway. I think I'm going to scale the project back, and just get someone to do the patching. And my neighbors across the street gave me a mattress. It's nice and soft, so I threw out my old mattress and box springs. But it seems the slats that came with the new mattress were cut about 1/2" too short, so they slipped off the frame, and the mattress collapsed. So now, I'm sleeping on a mattress that's caved in at the middle until I can figure out how to fix it.

Needless to say, this week I've felt overwhelmed with all this getting thrown at me at once.

My offer to pour oil on your driveway still stands.

I get home Friday. I've been in Rochester, NY since Wednesday and am taking the train home.

I hope the fruit trees liked the attention!

Hello Johnnie , since you've fertilised your fruit trees on a full moon , everything should go alright . I planted a couple of " Brugmansia Stems " last Tuesday on the Sidewalk garden .
I hope they grow ... Mercury has been in retrograde mode but it's almost through ; now that we are approaching May , things should flow more easily .
May 2024 is a good month to buy gadgetry , to initiate new projects , and so forth .

Twenty - two years ago when I was sixteen , I told my grandparents to make a will ( because of the conflicts I experienced with one of my uncles and his wife who used to live here back then , I insisted on several different occasions , but my grandparents , despite their kindness toward me , they were negligent and careless , everytime I would mention the subject they would get dramatic , and very angry ... so the years passed and now that they're in their early 90's it's not possible to fix that issue easily

Anyway , thanks for writing .
I hope you can get a new mattress pretty soon

Have a nice weekend My Friend

Hello again Johnnie , thanks for writing to me

Actually , the lousy nurse yelled at my grandpa , she works from Mondays to Fridays , her last day would be this Tuesday , she herself expressed she doesn't want to keep on working at this house because of being confronted by my Mum

I hope you have a Fun Weekend My Friend

Good Tuesday morning Thad, Frankie, Paul, Loner, and Andrew! (*8*)

It's pouring rain right now, which is a good thing, because it's been dry since the first week in April. It will be good for dissolving the fertilizer I just put out on my fruit trees. I just hope it will stop by midday, when I'm supposed to get together with some friends at the park, sit on our lawn chairs, and shoot the breeze.

Thad, I hope you're enjoying being at home after your latest trip. Sometimes you appreciate being in your own abode more after having been away for a while. I see you're planning on being in the studio audience for The View, so it looks like you always have to get out for some excitement.

Frankie, I hope your brugmansia stems grow for you. They have beautiful, fragrant flowers. I'm sure you're glad the nurse is quitting today, and I hope you can get someone good to replace her. I wish the best for your family. If May is going to be a good month for buying gadgetry, maybe I should replace my range top and washing machine.

Good Tuesday night Araucaria!

Everything is going good for me.

I hope everything is going well with you.

Hello Johnnie , thanks for writing , well that psycho nurse is leaving tomorrow

I have Brugmansias in my indoors small garden , since the Street Garden looks empty ( lousy neighbours pee or even destroy the Sidewalk plants ) I decided to plant a couple of Brugmansia stems near the Street Door . They seem healthy as they had been in a flower vase for a month developing some " spike roots " at the stem base

What I like about them is that they are resistant and easily grow

I hope they survive
Good Luck with the Gadgetry shopping , my suggestion would be to do it after May 7th

Have a Nice Wednesday later !

(*8*) Good afternoon, John

No rain in sight for us. It will be in the high 80s-low 90s the next two+ weeks

Hi John!

The View was a good time. I probably won't return soon. They keep you waiting outside for quite a while, then more waiting to get into the studio. But the show was OK. John Leguizamo was the guest. He's playing a nasty character in the new series "The Green Veil."
Oh, and it was giveaway day! They gave lots of stuff to each audience member, including a croutons and ginger snaps. Thr best thing was a Belkin wireless phone charger. I liked the candle included in the Macy's fragrance sampler, too.
There's stuff going on off camera that's interesting, and an energetic and shrill woman who keeps the audience excited. I am so glad she left me alone. But she was great with the folks celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, etc.
Hope you are doing well and loving every day!

Good Saturday morning Thad, Gary, Frankie, and Eaglex! (*8*)

Thad, I'm glad you got to be in the audience of The View, and you got that bag of goodies. It sounds like it would be fun to see what the taping of a show is like once or twice, but I would think doing it more than that would get old, with all the waiting, seeing all the trickery involved, etc. I hope you're enjoying being at home.

Gary, it sounds like you have a few more tolerable weather days before it gets too hot. Right now it's still OK here, but the temps have gone up a little, and the humidity has definitely returned. We're sort of in that period before the rainy season and the real heat starts. I guess all the subtropical weather regions are in the transition time between the spring and the upcoming summer.

Frankie, I'm sure you're glad to be rid of that nurse. I hope your brugmansias are doing well. Talking about them makes me want to plant some of my own. I'd want to place them in the backyard, but I don't have any space back there because of my fruit trees. I'm afraid if I plant them in my front yard, some idiot druggie kids will fry their brains out trying to get high off the stuff (there are news reports like that). I guess it's just as well that it's best to wait until after the 7th for my appliance shopping. Realistically, I'm not going to be able to get around to it before then anyway.

Well, I'm relaxing this morning, and the weather is pleasant. It will warm up into the mid 80s today, and I've noticed that the house is starting to get hot in the afternoons. I should probably get busy and do everything outside that I had planned to do before the weather gets too hot to work outdoors.

Good Wednesday afternoon, Thad and Loner! (*8*)

Well, I finally got my driveway repaved today. I got somebody from angi, formerly Angie's List, to do it. Boy they really moved fast once I got put in contact with a contractor! But their system is a real bitch to navigate. Every time I go to the website it rejects my password, which is always the brand new password it forced me to get the last time I was on, sometimes I have to go through this two or three times. Then it rejected my cell phone number. WTF? So I finally had to call a number the site listed if I have problems, and got in contact with this woman who spoke with a heavy Chinese accent, so I couldn't understand half of what she said. She did transfer my call to the contractor, though. He came out and looked at it, said that the old pavement needed to be torn out and new pavement put in, he quoted me a price and I decided to accept it. It was one of those more than I wanted to pay, but much less than I'd pay if I went with anyone else type deals. He said he'd be out later this week, so I was figuring on Thursday or Friday. So this morning I was out in my yard doing some things when this truck comes down my street. Sure enough it was the contractor. So they did the whole job and were out of here by noon.

It is really hot here today, about 90 degrees right now. It's supposed to get even hotter, up to the mid- 90s by Friday, and then chances for rain and thunderstorms start on Saturday, and go through at least early next week, with the temps dropping only slightly, but we'll have the humidity as well. I guess our summer weather has arrived.
