Araucaria Appreciation Thread

Good Wednesday afternoon, Gary and Thad! (*8*)

Sorry I haven't been on for awhile, but my laptop was out for repairs for the better part of a week. It cost me nearly half of what buying one new would cost, and it turns out they wiped out everything on it. So right now I'm in the process of rebuilding my computer. I spent over an hour this afternoon with an Apple tech trying to access all my accounts, which luckily I saved everything in the iCloud. I was able to recover the password for my JUB account. I haven't tried to access my porn pics yet, but so far things are looking good for what I have done.

Good Thursday morning! (*8*)

Gary, it's good to see that the temps have cooled down nicely in the desert, almost being chilly at night. It has cooled down considerably here, with lows in the low 70s and highs in the mid 80s, though we're still getting persistent showers (not thunderstorms, though). You can now turn off the AC, but it's still humid enough to turn on a fan when it warms up in the afternoon.

Thad, the water is getting just cool enough that I can use a bit of that warm water when I take my showers. I'm sure I'll really enjoy the hot water when we start getting some really chilly mornings this winter.

Well, the Gators beat Kentucky last Saturday, so things are looking a bit better. They have a bye week. but after that their schedule reads just like the top 10 football poll. They're going to have to pull one or two of those games out for a winning season.

I'm sorry to hear that Don Quixote passed away, but I couldn't respond to that immediately, due to my laptop being out for repairs.

Hello Johnnie , thanks for writing . I hope you have a very pleasant weekend later buddy

(*8*) Good afternoon, John

It's been a good weekend so far, starting with the Dodger win. Then USC destroyed Ruthers 42-20 in a game that finished just before mid-night which was 5AM for the fans back East. Enjoyed watching the Holy Men sink Navy 55-14. Now it's time for the Florida State game. Sorry, but there is little chance of them winning.

It dropped into the low 60s last night. I woke up cold and turned the heat on. Still in the 90s during the day with low humidity.

🐰

Hi John!
I'm home from an enjoyable weekend in Nashville. The Shindellas on Friday, the Southern Festival of Books Saturday afternoon, and the Predators Saturday night..all just what I like.
I stayed in East Nashville near a Publix! They don't come north of Tennessee, so I did shop there. There was a Kroger nearby, too. We don't have them either.
Jonathan Marchessault, one of my favorite NHL players, scored the winning goal in overtime for the Predators. He joined them this season from Vegas.

Hope your week goes well!

I am drinking a mug of Witch's Brew, a dark roast from Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters. Don Quixote shipped a supply to me for years. This is the last of those beans. :( The roasters have a sale on the 9th of every month. Don would pick up five pounds, which would fit in a medium Priority Mail Box. This way it was cheaper as the Roasters charged a very high shipping and handling fee. He did this three or four times a year for many years to save me money. He did the same for dynk.

Now I will have to pay the higher price or get Starbucks from their store here.

Don loved helping people. He had a real servant's heart. I really miss him.

It does not look good form your 🐊s, but State is predicted to be a toss-up. The Holy Men have a bye.

So nice a cool here. Slept with the bedroom window open and no A/C.

Good Saturday morning Gary, Thad, RM, Frankie, and Andrew! (*8*)

Well, I'm getting used to running my repaired laptop pretty much the way I've been used to doing, though I'm trying not to do certain things. I kind of think that my old power cord, which frayed and caused intermittent on- and off power supply issues, may have been responsible for causing the battery supply in the computer to get fried. So it might even be better to use it without the cord sometimes to avoid wear and tear on the power supply cord. Plus, I'm trying not to have three or four things open at once, like scrolling through JUB while having my email open and a livestream audio playing all at once.

Gary, I'm glad to see that it's cooler in the desert, even turning on your heat in the morning. It has cooled off here too, in that our summer heat is gone, but it seems we've stuck in a weather pattern which is keeping things windy and warm. There's a continuous breeze off the warm Atlantic, which is keeping our highs in the mid- 80s and lows only down to the mid- and upper- 70s, with the requisite humidity. Maybe a stray shower once in a while, but the summer storms and deluges are gone.

Well, today the Gators play Georgia at the annual game in Jacksonville, called the "world's largest cocktail party." It's going to be a difficult one for Florida to win against their arch rivals, but we'll see how it goes. BTW, I call Jacksonville the Rodney Dangerfield of Florida cities-- it gets no respect from Floridians. :rotflmao:

That Witch's Brew coffee sounds interesting. It was great that Don Quixote would send it to you. These days I'm just buying my coffee from my local ALDI store. Around Florida you can get Cuban coffee, you know, that coffee they boil down to be as thick as coal slurry, and serve in a tiny cup, with sugar mixed in and served with milk. I'll give you a hint: let that brew cool for a few minutes and only drink one cup, because it packs one hell of a caffeine wallop.

Thad, I can hardly keep up with you and you hockey watching ways. You were just in Nashville, you watched the Flyers win, and now you're going to Cleveland and then Salt Lake City to watch a game? And you keep finding new groups like the Shindellas? Wow, you just keep busy having fun. (y)

Hi.John! I'm glad to hear the laptop is open for business.

I love Cuban food, but not so much Cuban coffee. My current coffees are French Roast from Maxwell House and Two Sisters Coffee from San Diego. Although somehow it was on sale at my Grocery Outlet.

Have a great Saturday by the TV! And enjoy the weekend.

Hey Johnnie , thanks for writing

Take care , have a pleasant November

Good Friday morning, Frankie and Thad! (*8*)

Well, I haven't felt much like writing on JUB this week. I'll just take a deep breath and continue going as usual, resolved to deal with what may come, and live my life as much as normal. And update my passport, just in case.

These days, I'm pretty much getting caught up on a bunch of little stuff that needs to be taken care of. I got my flu and RSV shots this week, after getting my Covid booster last week. I got my oil changed last week, and I finally arranged to have an airbag recall fixed on my car on Monday. I've been putting it off for a while. They first announced it right in the middle of the Covid pandemic. What? Go sit in a crowded dealership repair waiting room for three hours? That was exactly how the experts were saying you caught the disease. No thank you.

(*8*) Happy Saturday, John.

The sky is blue and cloudless, the high winds have stopped, and the thermometer says 60F. A great start for the weekend. In 15 minutes, I will watch the gator.gifhopefully take a bite of Texas. Although the Longhorns are favored by 91%

The Holy Men play Florida State at 5:30 and are favored by 93%.

Doesn't look like a good day for Florida teams.

Now for a quick breakfast before the game starts.

Hello Johnnie , thanks for writing

I hope Life gets better for both of us

Have a pleasant Sunday My Friend

(UU)

(*8*) :therethere:Yesterday was it a good day for Florida football. Maybe next weekend will be better

Good Sunday afternoon, Frankie and Gary! (*8*)

Well Gary, I'm afraid the Gators couldn't do too much against Texas yesterday with Aidan Warner, the third string quarterback. He looked like Elijah Wood as Frodo in The Lord of the Rings out there. Hopefully Lagway will be healthy enough to play next week,

Actually, Florida State are the Florida Gators' archival. Your Holy Men can whip up on them all they want.

Happy Friday morning, @Araucaria!

Hope your week has been awesome!

Wednesday we had a pipe burst at work which messed with the water. So when I got to work yesterday I had no water because they turned it off the night before, but they didn't leave a note to tell me so I found out after using the restroom.

Washing my hands I used the water out of the soda machine, then remembered we had hot water machine so mixed the waters for a while. Thankfully they got it fixed yesterday.

Then the motor we use for filtering decided to not work, but it was just the socket.

Funny part of my week was as my brother and I were almost home last night we ran into a deer, it waited until we were right at it then ran out in front of us. We are both ok, but the truck grill is busted and 1 of the lights on the driver's side is also messed up.

Hope all is well with you, my friend!

Hello from South Salt Lake, Utah! I'm well and happy here. I saw Utah Hockey Club win on Tuesday night and have been exploring Trax light rail and communities around the Salt Lake Valley. I fly home Sunday.
This is the view from the house where I'm staying. It's hard to avoid a mountain view here.

Good Saturday morning, Thad and Eaglex! (*8*)

Thad, I'm glad you're enjoying your time in Salt Lake City. The hockey team won, and you have the beautiful mountains around you. I'm not surprised that it's cold there-- people forget that Salt Lake is a northern city. I'm glad that you're finding your way around on the light rail system. From your pictures it looks like the rail cars are traveling on the city streets, just like in San Francisco. We have a commuter train in South Florida, but it is confined to the main rail line, so it's just north and south. There is a private passenger system on the other railroad here, which I haven't been on yet, but it also goes north and south. These rail systems are rather limited if you want to get to any place to the sides away from the tracks.

Eaglex, wow, it sounds like your work place is falling apart! Now the pipes burst? And you had that encounter with a deer? I remember over 30 years ago I rode up with my ex and members of his family up into Georgia. It was nighttime when we finally got near their place. I couldn't believe all the deer that dashed out in front of the car. They were going slow, about 30 mph on a country road. Being unfamiliar with that area, had I been driving by myself, I probably would have gone 60+ mph, and got both myself and the deer killed.
