Are gay pride day necessary ??

Tennessee just made it illegal for teachers to say the word "gay"

gay kids are still killing themselves

yeah, I'd say we need 'em.

and, for me, seeing thousands & thousands of gay folk all together gives me

a smile that lasts for a couple weeks.

[sarcasm]
who cares if gay kids are killing themselves at triple the average rate? these guys are tired of seeing openly gay guys be flamboyant, even in a party setting, amoungst thousands of other gay guys. fuck anything else.
[/sarcasm]

.... seriously... guys... it's time to grow up. you're fucking gay. you like dick, in and around your mouths. i'm not overly flamboyant myself, but bitch, if i want to wear a fucking thong and dance around to lady gaga, im damned well going to, nothing i'd be doing is harmful to anyone else, and the fact that this "type of behavior" is seen as negative, is really fucked up.

you know what? i WANT to see a hot twink in fairy wings and underwear sprinkle sparkles on people. shit's fucking hot.

This is what I am talking about -video is an ad for Pride Toronto . I don't see anyone on there that would be a good representative for the gay community.

don't say that people will call you a troll.
haha seriously some of you guys are hypocritical. what the fuck is wrong with saying, "that there should be a better representative community".
Mike isn't saying being gay is wrong nor nothing like that. He is gay, not a closeted gay who is afraid.
Ga Damn, if no one thinks like the rest of you then some of you grown ass adults automatically label people as "they are a troll or they are a gay hating person"
this is a fucking thread and what the fuck is wrong with some objectivity?
This is a place to discuss not a popularity contest

So I'm guessing you have no sense of humor. Playing with stereotypes is funny, when handled correctly. It was supposed to make you laugh, not represent you to the world.

Seriously, we get enough condemnation and disapproval from the "religious" social-conservative (read: recidivist) asshats in the wolrld. Do we have to spew it at each other?

You want to be represented at Pride? Then get the fuck out there and represent.

Well, I sure as hell do! Between him and the original poster, they seem to have essentially degraded and patronized the gay, the twink, the feminine and the Irish. As I am all four, I'm about to strike them with my fabulous man-purse that is very heavy from cosmetics, flasks and CD's of my "gay ass music".

Are any parades absolutely “necessary?”

Though not even a parade (where spectacles are mostly expected), I’ve never thought it necessary for cheerleaders to show off their stuff at public sports events. I’ve also never thought about complaining about it….or thought it made them straight peoples look bad.

dallas_cowboys_cheerleaders.jpg

This. And people have mentioned it already. There are pride events for everything. St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo. Heck, there are conventions for anime enthusiasts. What's the point? People get together and meet others. They have some fun.

.
.

But I'm not emotionally attracted to men. a man being with a man is perfectly okay. i just dont think a parade is necessary for saying "yes gay is okay". its just a disappointment people do not have thick skin

If you have a thick skin, great. But it's kind of hard to keep a thick skin once you're publicly humiliated especially if you're an adolescent. And speaking of thick skin, why don't you tell victims of bullies that? Those that picked on in high school by popular kids. Get a thick skin and don't be yourself in public. I mean, if pride events aren't your thing, then they aren't your thing. You don't have to celebrate them, but at least be happy for guys who are able to just be themselves.

I like how everyone runs to people's defense saying that we need to be aloud to express ourselves for who we are or "let people be themselves" (as if these people alway go out in thong, make-up, and costumes). Now if your drag and you consistently do this, thats fine but I think people take things to the next level specifically to be like "IN YOUR FACE STRAIGHT PEOPLE> YEAH WE'RE GAY. WE KNNOW YOU DONT LIKE TO SEE OUR ASS HANGING OUT OF OUR CHAPS BUT WE'RE GOING TO DO IT ANYWAY BECAUSE WERE TIRED OF YOUR SHIT"" as if thats gunna make the situation better lol
Now, I have no problem with the people at PRIDE events, but I can see where the OP is coming from. Everything seems to be a little over the top/
and i dont hate gay people so dont come at me with "accept yourself bc u know u love cock. stop hating on our community" thats bullshit.

JEEZUS, FUCKING GOD!

WHAT THE FUCK?

Every GOD DAMNED year in the month of JUNE, of EVERY GODDAMNED YEAR we have to have these discussions!

Are gay pride day necessary ??

Is Sarah Palin living and breathing Necessary?

Are pissed off Tea-Baggers supporting Sarah Palin necessary?

Are a group of Log Cabin Republicans have a "Tupper-Ware" party in an air-conditioned townhouse off of Dupont Circle in June Necessary?

Let me share with you something....

If a group of 6'5" jocks want to squeeze themselves into sequined gowns, pin their hair back with "bobby pins," and strap on a $100 USD wig, and slip into a pair of 6" Stiletto "sling back pumps," WHO AM I TO ARGUE WITH THAT?

AND WHO IN THE FUCK AMONGST US CAN JUDGE?

Hmmm...how to say this without sounding like an ass?

Font sizes, colors, bolds, and italics?

m'kay!

Let's try this...

STRAP ON A PAIR AND DEAL WITH IT! :grrr:

Those "Drag Queens," "Leather Daddies," and "Go Go Boys" riding, or leading those floats ARE A POLITICAL STATEMENT!

When nobody truly gives a shit what happens in a "Gay Pride' parade, that's when they'll no longer be necessary!

So go out, shock your friends, your family, your co-workers, get drunk, get registered to vote, get laid, and stop worrying about how PC the whole "Gay Pride" thing is. ..|

When someone starts to RAIL about how un-necessary Sarah Palin's publicity stunts are, or Glenn Beck's Washington Rallies (where's he's obviously trying to discover himself), while not giving a rat's ass about some hot leather Daddy strolling down Folsom Street in San Francisco wearing a pair of tight leather chaps with his ass hanging out, then Gay Pride Day will be un-necessary.

So don't be all ashamed. [-X

To quote George Carlin:

FUCK THE FUCKING FUCKERS!

For gay people and their supporters, Gay Pride is one big party and is becoming less political with each passing year.

To homophobes it simply reinforces their opinion of gay people, ie we're just a bunch of depraved freaks in sequins and leather...

It doesn't change a homophobes opinion of us - but it does get us national press coverage and reminds them that we're not going to retreat to our closets... ever... ever... ever!

>>>STOP IT, YOUR RUINING IT FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

Again, this isn't the "gay people I personally approve of" parade.

Lex

to the people that seem to think wearing ass less chaps in public is is an appropriate means of gay "self-expression".

STOP IT, YOUR RUINING IT FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

Steve Gnosis

do you know that there are just about as many gay church groups and politicians as there are bar floats in our pride parade in Boston?

We have the dads with kids club that walks out there, as married couples with the kids they've adopted. They are very mainstream, and look like any other dads you see pushing strollers in the mall.

We have health organisations marching and activist groups... community centers, bike clubs, gay hockey teams, and even a gay sfi fi club.

But the guys with their asses hanging out and the dragueens making a grand spectacle remind us that you don't have to hide whatever being gay means to YOU individually. Some are only noticeable on pride when they ride in the parade, and some are just the kind of people that are going to be in straight peoples faces everyday testing their boundaries.

we need to celebrate our diversity and we need to let go of our misconceptions.

Most of all you need to go out there and march so that people will see that there are alot more of mainstream gay people, than they realize.

so get off your ass, stop whining, show up at the parade and go tell the leather guys and the drag queens in person that you would prefer they tone it down. if you interact with them and talk to them, ask them what their life is like ona daily basis you may change your mind.

Go ask a trans gendered person what it was like to make the decision to change, and how it affected their personal relationships. You will quickly find a small group of people that just want one thing.... to be free to be who they feel they are inside, and are willing to face adversity to acheive that level of open self awareness.

If you're a gay hockey player... ehh. who can tell them from the next, jock. They will give you a completely different answer as to what its like to be a gay athlete.

Sitting at home doing nothing never brings diversity, it never brings personal growth and understanding, and it never brings change.

I'm afraid so. :(

And reading the ill responses that these gay pride parade threads tend to illicit only reminds me why they're so necessary in the first place.

^OMG, with the exception of Silver Wolf and looseliam, it seems like every other JUBber from my city has been a raving, trolling maniac. #-o

HEY!!

I'm not a raving, trolling maniac!!

Well, not trolling anyway.

BRAVO!! :=D: :=D: :=D: :=D: :=D:

Showtime is currently airing the documentary "BEYOND GAY: THE POLITICS OF PRIDE." I highly recommend you watch it.

I watched the last half yesterday. The part that really got to me was what we go through in various countries to be treated equally and to end homophobia.

The Moscow Pride March was especially moving for me. The actual "march" lasted just a few minutes with about 20 marchers.

A gay guy was being interviewed by a local reporter. Then someone in the crowd yelled "Fag! Let's get him!" Then starts beating the shit out of the gay. Thus, ending the interview. The police arrested the gay guy.

So yes, Gay Pride Days are necessary.

mbamike mentions another relevant point about why pride parades are so absolutely necessary....

Without the (attempts at) pride parades in Russia, the wider world would have no clue about the disgusting violence and homophobia in that country. With the parades, the media and journalists can report, and we can publicise that country's behaviour, and at least try to hold them to account.

It can easily be forgotten by us that in some parts of the world, gay men require a phenomenal level of courage and bravery to go out on the streets, knowing the abuse and harm they could come to. But even knowing the risk, they STILL do it.

They are the unsung heroes of the pride movement, and they show us why it's so important to stand up for who we are, lest that our own lack of a visible presence on the streets of our own countries makes them too fall backwards into the ignorant attitudes of the past.

this thread full of redherrins confused misinformations ans huge lot left out da picture what make da happy humans on planet earth alls so happy ta be females ans males rushin round makin pretty sandcastles

saying these people aren't good representative is saying they are not good enough to be seen by the public. these are people you are looking at and criticizing and judging. they have the right to wear and look how they want and the pride parade is a place where they can do it freely.

they are here, they are queer, they are our brethren. if you don't like the people you see then get out there and represent. but there is no need to shun those who do what they are happy doing.
