What if we make the rule of "to bear arms" that the rifle is like it was in 1776. Single shot, ram powder and ball down the barrel.
A cute and utterly useless talking point that some folks like to dredge up. For one the Amendment itself would prohibit such a restriction. Two, even if you use the most restricted interpretation of the amendment that gun control advocates embrace that it relates to the state's ability to form a militia only, the restriction would defeat the purpose, a militia formed today with such weapons would be almost totally useless.
