Influence doesn't have to have anything to do with talent. Untalented people create smash successes pretty much everywhere, never mind music. As an example...Stephanie Meyer is a horribly untalented writer, yet has set the vampire genre aflame to the likes of Anne Rice nearly twenty years ago. If you've walked into a book store's fantasy section in the past year you've seen endless vampire novels.

People try riding waves of success all the time...and people did the same with Britney Spears. Her music was a rejection of the post-grunge/alternative rock and dance music of the early-mid 1990s. It brought back the bubblegum pop of the 1980s. Britney released her debut album in January of 1999 and people/labels started riding her coattails like mad...Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera all released their debut albums in the later half, if not end, of 1999.

Yes it is, one that can't be learned. That longevity is one of the things that has made Britney an icon.

As others (who are fans btw not haters) have said, most of Britney's success and longevity is due to her amazing management and music-making team. What Britney DOES have is a lot of charisma and a very loyal fan-base that has maintained her status over the years even though she isn't half the performer she was a decade ago.

So what credit do you give to Britney? Since you seem to be giving most of it to her management...


She's the one that's been out there on stage for 10+ years. You really underestimate her.

No one is doubting her star power...but she sure as hell didn't obtain that power on her own merit, that's for certain.

What credit do I give to Britney? As I said before, she's very charismatic, and also, she worked her ass off back in the day, she knew she wasn't the greatest singer so she focused on the dancing and performing. She kept herself fit, she trained hard, she danced hard, she delivered one heck of a show. She knew she was on top and she worked hard to keep herself there.

Now it seems like she just doesn't care, seems like she takes it for granted because her fans will always be there and THAT'S BAD in my opinion. I think every artist needs a scare once in a while so they know we deserve better as fans and they need to continue doing their best.

Of course she was a well packaged pop machine when she first came onto the scene. But to say it's none of her own merit is beyond ridiculous.

I disagree. I think a lot of the appeal of Britney is Britney. Not her music, not her dancing, not her sex appeal. People just enjoyed her. She is this down to earth, southern, girl next door with a lot of flaws. She is kind, polite, and goofy. That is what people fell in love with.

I am in love with "How I Roll" and can't wait to see what she does with it on the tour.

The choreography looks a little iffy and elementary but it's a cutesy song so I'll just have to wait and see. Waiting to purchase my tickets when I get paid!

She actually does look well and alive in that clip, I'm close to purchasing tickets (opening night) since I'm still loving FF and wanna check out Nicki Minaj.

Word is so far these are the songs confrimed for the tour: How I Roll, Hold It Against Me, Till The World Ends, Slave 4 U, Boys, Overprotected.


I've always loved "Overprotected" and it's a song, I imagine, she can relate to now more than ever. This dance break is probably my favorite of her's in any video.
