I've only 'slightly' known 2 transgendered people. Both were male to female. One I knew was on hormones. The other one was quite young and I lost contact over 20yrs ago.

I'll admit, I couldn't really wrap my head around the issue until I hit my 40's.

It is really sad to read some of the transphobic comments here. There is such staggering ignorance about what makes up a person's sexual identity. The idea that you define someone by whether they have a penis or vagina indicates that people haven't even taken the least bit of time or effort to understand the complexities of human chemistry and sexuality.

For homos to be bandying about terms like 'Freak' or Mentally Ill is pretty fucking arrogant given the number of straight people out there who think the same about us.

There's no doubt that Caitlyn Jenner is a media fame whore. None at all. And there's no doubt that Caitlyn has not proven to be the ideal model for other transexuals to look up to...shallow, spoiled, judgemental and disconnected from the real struggles that 90% of other transexuals go through because of the ET/Kardashian fame machine and money tree.

But I am more than happy to give any individual the respect for their choice to live as the gender they feel most comfortable and happy with. Whether they choose to maintain the external genitalia they were born with means nothing because it has been medically proven that sex organs alone do not define sexual identity.

I also have no trouble with the concept that transexuals may waver back and forth in their identity any more than I have trouble with the idea that bisexuals experience a spectrum of sexual attraction to males and females.

I have a transsexual friend in this small city, right now, who was born in Florida and migrated north. Being born with a penis, I'm sure the birth certificate says MALE on it...but she was also born with boobs (I THINK, at least, that they formed naturally rather than via implants) and she is woman not only in appearance, but very much so in mindset and mannerisms and such. Also, I am using the correct pronoun.

She is now afraid ever to travel "home" again - at least by car - because she will almost certainly need to travel through at least one state with these awful "bathroom panic" laws. She could be forced to use the Men's room. Having a transsexual person be forced to use the Men's room, would instantly (and forcibly) "out" her as a transsexual, and that just might not end well if she's in some place like Tennessee or Alabama. My guess is that, before the end of the year, most of the southern states will have these bathroom laws in place - probably even Georgia, once there are enough other states that get away with it and suffer few consequences.

Good-minded companies and entities and people can easily Boycott a state or two, but not 10 or 12 states.

She is justified to fear for her life if she travels to a state with these laws, and there is NO possible way she will ever set foot in North Carolina for any reason - as it stands now. I can easily see Florida passing this garbage.
