Metal on the head....

Would that make this a Republicat?

^ She's a piece of work.

The other morning I left a roll of paper towels on the bed for five minutes and this happened

LOL

A few days ago I was trying to figure out where the small remnant paper towel roll in the living room went, but gave up.
Then I went outside to let Knox do his business. He was pooping whitish globs.... No need to keep looking for the paper towels.

I love cats. I had 2 at one point. Poupon and Precious. Poupon was nasty. She only wanted things on her terms. Try to pat her and get bitten or scratch. When she wanted to be patted, she jumped in your lap. Precious was timid and never meowed until Poupon died. She suddenly discovered her voice. Funny how cats are. They do have personalities.
I had cat who was mean and irritable like that, until one day I came home and she was nowhere to be seen. I finally found her in the bedroom closet; she'd gotten the lid off a shoe box that held my nice thick knitted house slippers and had kittens!

I took down a bigger shoe box, lined it with an old towel, and carefully transferred cat, slipper, and kittens into the bigger box. That's when I discovered that two of four kittens were dead. When I picked one up to check if it was breathing, the cat plainly cried. She wouldn't let the two dead ones out of her sight, though, so I took them out and buried them in the back yard under a rose bush. She watched silently; when I'd put the dirt back and covered it with bark dust, she came over and patted the little grave mound, then went back to her surviving kittens. She wouldn't let me near them for almost two weeks, but once they were old enough to start wandering around she had totally changed. She'd sit on one arm of the couch watching her two, purring the whole time, and was content to let me sit by her. She could be a bit touchy about being picked up, but other than that turned into a nice, sweet friendly kitty who would follow her kittens when they climbed into my lap and curl up with them there.

I got this for a good price. It was $89. It can go for $140-$160
My younger brother used to get big empty tubes that held carpet and turn them into cat "castles", covering them with carpet scraps from the same store. To get one as good at a pet supply store would have cost $100, and that was almost thirty years ago.

On of my younger brother's cats once curled up inside a pizza box that still had pizza in it. He didn't bother the pizza (except shedding a bit on it), but he hissed when someone lifted the lid to take a slice.

Cats can be weird.

Our Kitty Missy now has me totally trained to play toss the mouse.

She will chase it and carry it back as many times as you can throw it. Today it was over 60 times throughout the house in different directions.

The game has also made her very vocal. She chirps when she brings the mouse back to drop at your feet and I can only describe it as giggling as she runs after it.

A pure delight.

Maple is fond of the wand toys.

Whenever she catches what's on the end, she drags it out of the room with a proud gait and her head held high, the string and the wand clattering behind her. She's become amazingly adept at preventing it from catching on chair legs or any other obstacle.

Also, there is very limited counter space in my kitchen, so when I'm preparing food, the counter space I do have is usually crammed with stuff; plates with chopped vegetables, utensils, and any number of other things. Maple is allowed on the counter, and when she jumps up on it when I'm working there, no matter how cluttered it is, she never lands in or steps on anything. How does she do that?

I can only assume that in the split second between the moment when her line of sight clears the countertop and when she actually lands on it, her brain quickly takes note of whatever's there and instructs her feet where to land. It's truly amazing.

She's also a fast learner. Besides her name, she's also learned threats, Churu, "are you hungry?" and the most important word you can teach a pet: no.

She also knows "It's alright." If she's spooked by a loud truck outside or something, If I tell her it's alright, she becomes visibly relaxed.

I upset Zeus Wednesday because I was distracted when I came home and I forgot to go in the bedroom. Every night when I come home from work I have to go lay on my bed and cuddle with Zeus for a couple minutes. That night he was walking around meowing and carrying on half the night until I realized what happened. We went into the bedroom and cuddled and then he was fine.

One of my neighbors has a cat that chirps. The other day he chirped while purring and it came out "Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt" with 'hard' r like in Spanish.
