The woman is jealous of the love the guy has for the cat and planned all of this to look like an 'accident'.

100 mouse tosses and fetches and I realize that what Missy is trying to tell us (my partner) is

There's an apartment building in New York where dozens of cats have jumped from the 32nd floor and landed just fine, at least till they get old.

I had cat who was mean and irritable like that, until one day I came home and she was nowhere to be seen. I finally found her in the bedroom closet; she'd gotten the lid off a shoe box that held my nice thick knitted house slippers and had kittens!
