Comey Fired - We've Seen this all Before

Well Benvolio,

So apparently you, like Trump, seem to believe that the Director of the FBI should serve as some kind of personal chief of police to do whatever the President demands of them.

This is what the goon squads under dictators do...they serve the leader instead of the people.

As this article explains, Trumps pathological narcissism and utter cluelessness about how federal government institutions work are probably the root cause of his complete misapprehension of the role of an independent judiciary and investigative force.

L'etat c'est Trump. Indeed.

No, but the DOJ and FBI are not independent. They are by the Constitution, his assistants in assisting him in the performance of his duties if chooses to allow them to do so.

What a strange and unusual fantasy-land Ben lives in, I suspect they have red flags there, red and white with squiggly black symbols, and everyone is blond, and wears shiny black boots with their brown shirts.

"It’s possible he truly did not realize that the FBI Director is not the equivalent of the security chief at a large corporation."

Exactly what I was afraid of -- Trump treats the country as his personal property.

It is disingenuous for you to pretend that all presidents do not limit their appointment to high level appointees whom they are certain will be loyal to them. That is why virtually all all cabinet level and second tier appointees are replaced by every president, GOP or democrat. Trump may have been more explicit in asking, but all presidents satisfy themselves of their appointees loyalty or they would not appoint them. Comey's ambiguous behavior, before the election and widely criticized on both sides, gave rise to a natural question of where his political loyalties were.

In a statement, Durbin said that what he characterized as Trump's admission that he fired Comey because of the Russia probe was "dangerously close to obstruction of justice."

Durbin said Trump's tweet on Friday "could be construed as threatening a witness in this investigation, which is another violation of federal law."

As I noted, Trump is doing a bang-up job of laying the groundwork for his eventual impeachment.

And never mind the shitstorm to come as the House and Senate are forced to subpoena the tapes of the Trump/Comey dinner and then the tapes are mysteriously 'erased'.

What Trump doesn't understand is that while the House may be cowed, the Senate does not put up well with being mocked.

There is very little about the government that he understands except that he gets to sit in the big chair and everyone stands up when he enters a room.

According to notes Mr Comey made after a February meeting with Mr Trump, the President told him: “I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”

And when he didn't and asked for more resources instead....Trump fired him.

And now Trump is running around blaming everyone else for his own fuck-up.

And the Kremlin must just be howling over the disarray.
