Discussion Thread from the Funny Anti-Religious Pictures thread.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

As an atheist, I entirely agree with what this cartoon says. Probably not in the sense that you as a christian intended. But the fact of the matter is that IS and the KKK both stay closer to what their scripture prescribes than their moderate counterparts.

ISIS, yes, but for the KKK to claim to follow the Bible they have to throw out half of it -- to be precise, they have to throw out the half
that says it is the pint of the whole thing.

Though if you read a good bio of Mohammed, it becomes clear that he would never have tolerated ISIS. Their version of Islam just didn't exist at all until over a generation after the Prophet's death.

While this is very true, it is also true for other religions: anyone who thinks of Buddhists as tolerant and long-suffering should spend a year in Burma or Cambodia.

It has long interested me that in both Buddhism and Christianity there have been highly-regarded figures who have asserted that the teachings can only be truly followed when there is persecution, and that no one who engages in persecuting others is in touch with the teachings.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

So true. They probably don't. When I see horroscopes in quality newspapers (paper editions) I always wonder "who are these people who like quality investigative journalism... AND read horroscopes?"
I stopped reading them in the 1970's when I was reading them daily in two newspapers (Toledo and Detroit). One day, one said that I should treat today conservatively, not take any financial chances, etc. - wait until tomorrow to do all this stuff.

The other HORRORscope told me that this was a good day for being adventurous, perhaps a good time to take chances, maybe do that investment I've been thinking about, etc.

Someone said I shouldn't think guys here are ignorant of the errors in the images.

So who can tell me the fallacy involved in this one?

Or the fallacy involved in this one?

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

I want a cartoon mocking the people who hate the Big Bang despite the fact that at the time it was introduced it was roundly denounced as being thoroughly theist.

Evidently a majority of the posters in this thread don't truly give a shit about logic or accuracy.

Another cartoon by someone who didn't bother to do his homework.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

This is the stuff of genius! Chrissies and muzzies always claim the death-bed conversions of anyone who didn't die an atheist live on television, but it never occurred to me that we could do the same thing and say, "hey folks! Looks like Jesus lost his faith on his death-plank!"

Wow -- the ignorance here hurts. Statements like this are the sort that often get the comment that the IQ of everyone who read it just got reduced. That cartoon is an example of the worst third-grade-level fail at thinking.

Please answer this: why is it that atheists love to be at least as ignorant and irrational as the worst fundamentalists, and indeed pride themselves on it?

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

I read an article about the psychology of those sorts of "churches". It boils down to the fact that when you attend a place that's so big, you guarantee that no one will call you to account for actually following what you believe, because the crowds are so huge everyone is essentially anonymous.
