I've never read the book and have no desire to ever see a movie, but he's a good looking guy and half decent actor.

with a low-brow project like 50 Shades, they were never going to get an A-list actor.

Oh yeah, and no real surprise here....he's straight....was once married to a woman....and is now dating a woman.




Apparently in Hollywood, if you're gay.....you can't play straight roles.


But if you're straight, you can play both straight and gay roles.




Talk about real double standard here.

I think Robert Pattison, also considered, might have been an option but looking at Charlie in media stories, I can see him a bit more as Christian Grey

I've never read the books, pretty much every person I know who lives outside my house has though. They were universally of the opinion that the books were shit and badly written.

No real interest in the movies but if they get him to do a full frontal nude scene I'll sit through hell to see it lol.

if you're gay......please do not go support this film when it opens in cinemas.


It's very telling ....based on Matt Bomer's recent comment....he appreciate the fans's support and petition for him to be cast in the movie....


You can tell from Bomer's comment that he is willing to play the role of Christian Grey but unfortunately he was denied the chance because he was gay. He sounded real classy in the interview.


If you pay to watch this in cinemas....you're just caving in and supporting Hollywood's tyrant rule of NOT casting gay actors in romantic leading men roles.



If you really want to watch this, wait for the dvd or just download it online.

The ongoing controversy surrounding the casting of Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson for the film adaptation have reached new heights, with the online petition for Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel nearly doubling to more than 40,000 votes at press time in less than 24 hours.

The petition, which demands that Bomer, 35, and Bledel, 31, take on the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, respectively, was created on Change.org shortly after book author E.L. James revealed the casting decision on Monday, Sept. 2.

I have a feeling Hunnam was chosen partly due to his Pacific Rim - otherwise his chance would be very slim.

I don't really give a damn, though most females I know cry and whine. Most of them opt either Matt Bomer or Alexander Skaarsgard.

that petition makes me feel bad for the actors who did get cast.

this is 50 Shades of Grey we're talking about here... it's not like they had their choice of A-list actors. I can't imagine Matt Bomer even wanted the part.

The relatively low-profile actors Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam are set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of the popular erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

The casting news, revealed in Monday Twitter posts by the author of the novel, are the first sneak peek into the coming series of films based on the international best-selling series by E.L. James. Both actors are relatively unknown. Johnson has previously had minor roles in The Social Network and 21 Jump Street. She also played the lead-role of Kate in the short-lived comedy series Ben and Kate. Hunnam currently stars as Jax Teller on the FX series Sons of Anarchy.

Industry insiders have speculated for months over who would secure two of the most coveted roles in Hollywood. Emma Watson, Shailene Woodley and Analeigh Tipton were all rumored for the lead female role of Anastasia, an innocent college student who enters into a lewd relationship with Grey. Robert Pattinson, Armie Hammer and True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgard were rumored to be in contention for the roles of Grey.

Johnson and Hunnam will presumably sign on for films based on all three books.

This is TERRIBLE, and I hear a lot of fans of the book are furious. Charline Hunnam is a bit dirty looking he just doesn't seem like the type of actor who could pull off the performance as Christian Grey. I really wish Matt Bomer would get BIGGER HIGHER PROFILE ROLES. Matt Bomer would have KILLED this role as Christian Grey. A lot of straight women, WANTED Matt Bomer to get the male lead really disappointed.

Dakota Johnson is just not attractive enough or young enough for this role she's just not right for this.

I feel REALLY BAD for Matt Bomer, this guy should be A List or at least RISING in Hollywood. Yes, Matt's got White Collar but come on, that's a television show that's going to be cancelled in a few years. Matt has serious leading man potential BUT because he's openly gay and proud Hollywood won't give the guy a BREAK.

Matt would be AWESOME as Christian Grey and what's interesting is STRAIGHT WOMEN they WANT Matt to be the male lead, they KNOW he's gay but these ladies still love the guy so much. This should teach Hollywood something, heterosexual women, if they find a guy is hot, even if he's gay they are going to SUPPORT the MAN. Women would support Matt Bomer in the lead role.

My sister read some of it she told me the book is very lame and boring. My sister said there is an African American erotic writer her name is Zane and her work is way hotter than EL James work.

I've read extensive excerpts of 50 Shades of Crap. It isn't remotely bdsm. Grey is a horrible Dominant (obsessive and controlling, but that doesn't make a sadist) and it portrays trauma survivors of being into bdsm because of trauma, which is a rather old cliche. There's ways of writing about that in porn realistically and respectfully - the book does neither. It's also, well, just....really bad porn, even as bad porn goes. I've read better shit that looks like it was probably written by a naive twelve year old on fanfiction dot net. As the book sucks, I'm not even bothering with the movie.

Charlie Hunnam was excellent in Nicholas Nickelby, as was Jamie Bell who played Smike. (Speaking of Jamie Bell, he's got a great body--check him out in Centurian with Channing Tatum.)

I read a few paragraphs of 50 Shades on, if I remember correctly, the Daily Beast website. Embarrasingly bad. Stupid. Cretinous. These women must be desperate to get off on it.

I like Hunnam--hope this doesn't destroy his career. Bomer should be happy he didn't get the role.

even as a fellow gay man, Matt Bomer just looks asexual and plastic to me, like a Ken doll.
