Gay Marriage Updates By State

^^^December at the latest. They will hear the case in September and issue a ruling within 90 days.

I also assume the 9th Circut will be soon answering the question regarding the Imperial County clerk being allowed to intervene, which I expect will be an easy no.

I remember when Missouri passed the ban in 2004. The proponents of the ban were rather sneaky, having the wording done in a way to confuse the hell out of everyone. I know a lot of people that voted for the ban by mistake because of the wording, thinking that "yes" was to allow gay marriage, when in actuality, "yes" was for the amendment to redefine marriage, effectively banning same sex marriage in the state.

A comment in the youtube video above made me think about conversations I have had with some of my friends and coworkers..."what are we willing to accept?" I think that this is certainly the most important question...and the answer should be "equal protection, rights, and privileges under the law for all."

Most of the people that I have talked to (certainly not a consensus) that are for the ban, are not for it to limit rights of same sex couples...they actually have no problem with equal rights and legal protection, they are only against the use of the term "marriage". It begs asking, if you/we are afforded all the same rights, protections, and privileges under the law being a same sex couple as our straight counterparts, does it matter if the union/partnership/relationship/etc is called a marriage?"

Committee hearing/vote for Colorado civil unions bill scheduled for Thur.

We need 1 Republican to vote yes to send the bill to the floor! Everyone contact the 2 Republicans who are considered moveable as well as the 5 Democrats and tell them to vote for the bill!

Suppose we felt that black people deserved all the same rights as white people, equal pay and employment opportunity, voting rights, due process, etc but we just weren't comfortable allowing them to use the term "citizen".

Let's come up with another definition that gives them all the rights of citizens, but the term "citizen" needs to be reserved for white people.

Would that be ok?

I do not think that that is hardly an equal comparison.
