Glee! [merged]

^Yeah, I would probably like Darren as an "actor/singer" more if his character on the show wasn't so insufferable. TBH, last night, I thought Blaine would make contact that other guy they [as in the camera] were "ogling" in the video but Ryan Murphy is just too gay to function.

They opened up the perfect window for Ryder to come out as bi but instead we get this sappy molestation story. At least the evil cheerleader bitch [Kitty?] which I sadly empathize with had a good "coming out" story. Whenever people have serious emotional baggage, they put up walls and will treat others like crap so they don't have to deal with their own inner demons.

I'm still convinced it's Unique but my inner deductive tells me: "People in high school have unique backpacks. One could easily conclude whose backpack it was. Besides, most high schools have banned students walking around with backpacks anyways."

^^RE: "Smooth Criminal" that was probably the standout performance from season 3 for me, I loved everything about it.
I agree. Santana, Mercedes, and Artie have the best voices on that show in my opinion. The others IMO usually only sound good when paired with someone else (like Rachel + Kurt)

What Glee lacks is a good rock vocalist. All their covers of rock songs seem so generic, and they have nobody who can carry a good rock or pop/rock song. They do decent covers of some pop songs/ballads though.

Their best episode, musically, for me was the Madonna episode in season 1.

Story line aside, I love how Glee sometimes brings forgotten songs back into memory every now and then, but this season the songs/covers have been awful.

They haven't covered nickelback at least not that I can remember LMFAO .

^They slaughtered Sing by My Chemical Romance, lol. Just sayin'. It went with the spirit of the performance but really...

I never liked much of what Lea Michele sings in that show. My favorite performance by her was like the 10 seconds of Crush she sang to Shue in his car. I like the full version

For me, this group vocal performance cemented why these four are considered the best in glee. I would rank in this order: Mercedes, Santana, Rachel, and Kurt. Like for "At the Ballet" the blending and harmonizing is great. Mercedes and Santana can virtually sing anything and make it sound good, but their duet of "River Deep, Mountain High" is one of the best this show has ever produced. I like Rachel's voice on almost anything except pop songs (her rendition of "Baby One More Time" is the definition of second hand embarrassment) and I like Kurt's voice when he sings in a lower register. I would also add Artie and Tina as top tier singers, despite not singing nearly enough. Everyone else would be distant 2nds & 3rds.

I agree. The Madonna episode is the best tribute this show has ever done. The covers were not only good, but the music was actually integrated to move the plot along and didn't feel shoehorned in. This week is the Stevie Wonder episode and I'm already expecting a total shitfest.

Okay so Glee has gone from being one of my favourite shows (when it first began) to being one of my least favourite shows. The writers can't hold a storyline for longer than about two episodes, they can't do subtlety (how many times have we had things happen off screen that the characters have to tell us about just for a storyline to make sense?), they backtrack on things so many times and go over the same ground covered (season four was just an attempt at trying to bring in a new Rachel with Marley and a new Quinn with Kitty). We're seeing love triangle after love triangle, there's no actual drama and when Glee does do drama (the shooting and the Ryder secret) it's basically forgotten about after the episode is over. Despite it being like two weeks since the shooting, the whole school seems to have returned to normal and would a teacher who brought a gun into a school actually get hired again? Is it just me that's being cynical in thinking that you would not get hired anywhere if you shot a gun twice in a school?

Also why the hell do we keep seeing Finn and Puck popping up all the time when they offer absolutely nothing to any sort of storyline. Why don't we ever see Quinn come back? Granted I'm a bit one-sided considering I love Dianna Agron, but she was so much better than a lot of the others and had a great voice. Okay it wasn't a belting voice like Rachel or Mercedes but her voice had a nice tone to it and I think she had a lot of emotion whenever she sang.

Oh and I read somewhere that before season four aired Ryan Murphy (I think) said that this season would be less about love triangles and romances. Does anyone think he succeeded with that? Considering of course that regionals has basically been forgotten about for god knows how long now and it's only when they need a storyline does someone come in and be like "oh yeah, what about regionals?" or when they need another crappy "set list" episode where Mr Schu chooses awful songs and everyone disagrees (seriously, why has no one complained about his awful teaching style yet?)

Glee needs to quit drawing out the damn catfishing plot and reveal who it is already. Also, it seems to me that Ryder made up that molestation story just to see if it would get a reaction from "Fake Katie". I mean, it was a win-win scenario for him. At best, it would make the catfisher blow his/her cover...at worst, all the guys would think he was king stud (which was sickening).

At this point, why is Ryder bothering with someone who has lied about their identity, stood him up, and failed to reveal themselves? He's just setting himself up to be disappointed when it turns out to be some girl he'd never look at in a million years, or a guy. I seriously hope this isn't Ryan Murphy's plan to hook Ryder up with a guy in a lame attempt at fanservice.

Chord Overstreet has basically spilled everything to The Hollywood Reporter about what to expect for the final two episodes. And I'm underwhelmed... so more hate-watching for me.

I think the only time we'll see Quinn back is for Klaine's (or Finchel's) inevitable wedding.

So after reading the article that I can say that the only thing I am actually looking forward to is Katey Sagal, I really hope she gets a chance to sing (although for some reason I'm doubting it. If she does it'll be one line in a group performance montage of different characters looking pensive/angry). The rest of season four looks like it's going to be as awful as ever and nothing's going to improve. Also unless they start actually getting rid of cast members at the end of the school year then in the next couple of years we're going to be too busy with "recurring roles" to actually care about any storylines going on.

When Brittany goes I think she should just leave, her character has outstayed her welcome and has nothing left to offer. I think the creators of Glee have just let all the characters become really flat and boring, no one is at all "likeable" and I find myself caring less and less about what happens to them as the weeks pass.

(Also, Brittany's perfect score? Seriously? We're still going on with that storyline? It barely got mentioned in the episode months ago and now we're pursuing it like it's actually plausible?)

^Yep, Brittany is clearly leaving and I can't wait to see how she's written out of the show mid school year. I've never cared for the character, she's okay in small doses but a lead she is not. That goes for Artie, Tina, Sam, and Blaine too. Stripped of their lead counterparts, leaves for some very boring individuals and OTT characterizations. I don't see how this extended school year is going to benefit this show at all. Just out of curiosity I looked up the ratings for last week's episode. Which was the first after the two season renewal announcement, and it was one of lowest rated shows this season in the 18-49 demo. Not good reassurance.

Okay so Wonder-ful was a complete disappointment (no surprise). Artie's story ended far too quickly and it seems like they didn't put any effort into it at all. Why was Katey Sagal even in it? Her character was beyond pointless (despite how much I love her).

Oh and of course we got the Mr Schu briefing where he listed lots of important events that happened off screen. Why does Glee do this? The storylines that should be on screen (the fallout and getting back together of Will and Emma for example) is all off screen and then we get some lame ass storylines that can barely hold an episode.

Now the bit I almost switched off at was Rachel, Cassie July and the NYADA students. I'm not gonna spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it (it'll spoil itself don't worry) but it was completely out of left field and I hate how Glee sets up good characters, like Cassie July, and then when it comes their time to end their guest stint, it completely ruins them. Clearly Kate Hudson is not going to be back because her character officially has no depth anymore. Glee officially cannot create and sustain interesting characters, they feel that everything needs to be tied up neatly at the end of every season. It doesn't, sometimes people are just cruel and sometimes not everything is resolved neatly.

@amwao1

Welcome to season 3! The old cast for the most part got flushed out so they actually have some depth [well, most of them]. This problem was expounded in the shooting episode because it's hard to feel frightened for a character when there is no latent sympathy to draw from.

Perfect example of bad writing/plot: Santana would have totally bitch slapped Kurt out of his OCD. The lack of Santana in this episode altogether would have filled many of the voids. I don't like using this word often but fuck those fags at NYADA. That was no doubt the most cringe-inducing part of the episode for me. One would think the writers would move away from the 'gay villain' trope but this episode has all these weird platitudes. Gay marriage is okay but showing a little cleavage isn't? Speaking of gay marriage, Burt did a downright terrible job telling Blaine he is cray-cray. I would have loved for Burt to drop the bomb that: "Kurt happily has a new BF" [or did the writers forget about the cute Brit named Adam?] and you should respect his space. I also rolled my eyes at Kurt wearing an ascot. There is nothing sexy about a man wearing an ascot; to me, it just says: "my hole needs man seed ASAP."

You can only bash the inconsistent writing for so long before you just accept it as shit. I still wonder how Gwyneth Paltrow won that Emmy.

plenty of women have been pregnant on TV without it changing the story line/forcing them off the show- big sweaters, always standing behind a piano, etc- can't be many episodes left....

True, but Brittany only wears one uniform. Heather's pregnancy seems to be the reason for Brittany's early graduation, in her last scene from a few episodes ago, the show did a poor job of hiding her already protruding belly. When shooting resumes for next season she'll be well into her pregnancy, there's only so many jackets she can wear and explaining why she is not dancing will be problematic. Especially with these writers, they're already playing the angle of Brittany being a genius.

RE: "Wonder-ful"

I have to say... I didn't completely hate this one as much as I thought, but there were some major WTF moments. What I did like about this tribute was that it didn't really feel like one. Aside from Will's introduction, there was no OTT ass kissing of Stevie Wonder from the students like he was their idol, grew up listening to his music, etc., and the musical numbers felt more organically placed within. "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" is my favorite Stevie song and I liked Kitty's version, though I enjoy Kurt singing in his lower register he got the dullest song of them all, Mercedes and Artie killed their solos/parts per usual. Blaine and Marley combined will never = The New Rachel. Which leads me to my random WTF moments.

Listening to Mercedes prop up Marley as some great vocal talent before "Superstitious" was funny, but she was a much better vocal coach then Will ever was. Why did Blaine randomly join in singing? Then listening to Jake being propped up was laughable too, Will (should) already knows about how much of a talent he is. He did go after him to join glee at the beginning of the season. But, uh, Mike >>> Jake in that dance number.

Mercedes' album being shelved because she refuses to be sexy was just an inane plot. This isn't the year 1999, not all mainstream pop singers have to fit a certain mold in order to be successful. Adele is a prime example that should have been brought up to counter this.

Being that Tina is now the town gossiper and BFF's with Blaine, wouldn't she have been one of the first to know why Kurt was in town? I like how the writers poke fun at themselves but never fix the problem (#GleeHatesGirls).

Last week Kitty was interested in Ryder, but since the writers remembered during "Guilty Pleasure" week Artie expressed interest in Kitty this would be a good time to bring that up again. Ok. Katey Sagal was criminally underused and not even necessary.

I thought "Uptight" was a dream sequence... because it should have been. A very lame conclusion for Rachel and I don't care at all what happens for her next week.

I hope we're not suppose to think Blaine's [STRIKE]obsession[/STRIKE] love for Kurt is cute & romantic, because it's boarding on psychotic. Kurt is preoccupied thinking about his Dad's health, Blaine thinks it's a good idea to tell him he's "dirty cute" and proceeds to eye-fuck him once they sit down. If there is one continuity the writers have gotten correct this season it's Blaine's emotional neediness and total disregard of what Kurt wants. It's strange that even his talk with Burt didn't knock sense into him. (Once again I like how Kurt is treated like the "girl" with Blaine asking for his hand in marriage.) We already know he goes ring shopping and in the promo asks Sam to be his best man, all before he's even reconciled romantically with Kurt. I can't wait for the will he or won't he cliffhanger.

@maxpowr9 I'm with you on everything you said, especially on Santana. But who is Adam... or did you mean Bruce?

^Total JK. The arm pillow, that was one of Kurt's guilty pleasures, was named Bruce. It's a shame Adam wasn't featured more. I actually liked him in the fleeting minutes that we saw of him.

So just seen a behind the scenes for "All or Nothing" and apparently Vanessa Lengies and Samuel Larsen (Sugar and Joe) are both back in the Glee club despite a rather lengthy and unexplained absence. No doubt Glee are just going to say that they've both been sick for over a month or something equally (or probably more) stupid. Also the song list for All or Nothing does nothing to make me actually want to watch the episode, I only really watch it because I've stuck with it for four seasons...that and Chord Overstreet (despite his ridiculous Sam/Evan Evans storyline which was just horrible.)

Yeah this week's music is really dull, aside from "Hall of Fame" all of the songs aren't worth a 2nd or even full listen.

"All or Nothing" will be jam-packed with various story lines, revelations, and cliffhangers all done terribly:

Sue's baby daddy will finally be revealed!!! Who even remembers Sue being a mom and dying to know the identity of the father?

Ryder's Catfish "...could be someone you know." Whatever, dude, it's Unique. :##:

NuPuck adds his 2 cents:
How will Glee end this season if there's no graduation? — Lisa

ADAM: Ryder's ongoing "catfish" story line will be resolved when he finally meets his mysterious online companion. (Our guess is Unique.) But not every story will be tied up neatly. In fact, Jacob Artist promises "lots of cliff-hangers," including an ending that is still unknown to the cast. Artist says he and several other cast members filmed two versions after a last-minute rewrite. "I think the new one might be a little bit more like [gasp]!" he says. Guesses?

Naya Rivera spoils what happens with Brittany, like we already expected her storyline to conclude, but this part was relevant to my interests:

There was so much talk going into season four about how it would work with all you seniors having graduated. How do you feel about how it all turned out? And what do you want for season five?

I was first and foremost very excited to see Santana finally go to New York. When I finished season three, I had heard mumurs of her going to New York and I had always hoped that that happened. So I'm really glad that she's there and I think the writers have done a really good job of integrating it into the storyline pretty seamlessly. Most episodes, there's one overall scene that both places are participating in. For next season, I would like to see more of New York. Sometimes I feel like if we have four or five scenes, it's not really enough! Plus Artie's [Kevin McHale] coming to New York now, so we'll recruit more people and then maybe we'll get to be on full time.
(ww) The shade! I don't particularly care for Artie being in NY next season, I enjoy him as singer, but he's a supporting player that can easily be written off and not be missed.

^I agree. I like Artie as a singer but HATE him as a character. There is far too much cast juggling and it's better to just let some of the balls fall and roll away.
