Harry Reid’s Wild Speculation About Mitt Romney’s Unreleased Tax Returns

Pres. Obama fully supports Harry Reid here - otherwise he wouldn't be doing it

Harry is just a puppet on one of the David's strings (axelrod or plouffe)

that's what the country has come to

elected officials - leaders of the party - the most powerful man in the senate - is a bag man for sylvio and paulie to barack obama's tony soprano

and the low rent Dead embrace it - standards are for .......... someone else

And when The attack dogs belonged to Rove and Bush? Unfortunately in our political game once the bar is raised (or rather lowered) it stays there and the other party plays by the new con-fuck-erated rules.... (<-- new word for our congress)

“What Republicans don’t get is the more they fire back at Reid, the more he will fight,” said another top Reid confidante. “And in the end, what will the topic be? Romney and his taxes.”

Sounds like a working strategy to me...

that's the only way to win?

I thought candidate Obama ran on a different way of doing things

he found mid term/late term that ????????????

that unless he did this he wouldn't get re-elected cause his record was poor?

when did he/they come to the conclusion that they had to be rove-esque?

Ah yes, the fact that Harry Reid is gossiping is SO much more important than the fact that Romney's tax returns are like Joan Rivers' snatch - it's super mysterious and nobody knows what it looks like.

Interesting, but when Mittens ran against O'Brien for MA gov, HE insisted that her HUSBAND release his tax returns. Little change of tune now for Mitt. The Boston Herald (to the right of the WSJ & NYPost) was parroting this all over the front page in 02. Now, not a word

But we sure smell a rat!!

He absolutely should release them. It should happen the very same day that Obama unseals all his college transcripts. Obama has had them locked the entire time he has been in the White House. Or Maybe Romney should release them in the same amount of time it took Obama to release his birth certificate. If Romney not releasing records means he is hiding something then the very same applies to Obama. The media has gotten to the point of not even attempting to hide their bias anymore. They spin more than than the candidates.

The whole Ann Romney vs. Michelle designer clothing is a classic example. If this must be considered "news" it should have a least been treated with some sense of evenhandedness and consistency but it isn't.

Apparently if Mrs. Obama wears a $6,800 the story is. "A shimmering Michelle Obama wowed Buckingham Palace in a captivating, all-white embroidered jacket that retails for $6,800 .

If Anne Romney wears a $900 shirt it goes like this. "Does Ann Romney wear her $990 designer shirt while driving one of her two Cadillacs? The very wealthy Mitt and Ann Romney have often been painted as out of touch with average Americans. Ann’s pricey shirt will not help her husband change those perceptions, no matter how many Laundromat photo ops are on the campaign’s daily itinerary. On Tuesday Ann wore a colorful silk T-shirt with a large bird print by Reed Krakoff during an interview with her and her husband on CBS’s “This Morning.” Fashion blogs quickly tracked down the “The Reed Audubon Silk Shirt” and noted the whopping price tag."

What the women's clothes cost should not matter but in today's voyeuristic turn everyone into a celebrity culture, every detail that can fill up airtime and stir up controversy can and will be exploited. A United America focusing on fixing things is the media's (both right and left's) worst nightmare. Barak Obama and Mitt Romney are both millionaires and both want to get even richer. That is fine but it really isn't news. In my lifetime I can't think of a single politician and that includes Jimmy Carter, who is not as saintly as advertised, that hasn't done the very same thing. They get out of office and get paid enormous amounts of money for speeches, sit on boards for huge rewards for little input and find and exploit every opportunity to get richer.

Nonsense. There is clear and plain evidence that Obama was born in the US, and there has never been any legitimate evidence otherwise. There is no precedent for the ridiculous birthplace conspiracies levelled against any previous Presidential contender.

There is also no precedent for the release of college documents by a Presidential contender, and certainly no precedent for a sitting President to do so. It has never been a requirement for either.

There is, however, strong precedent for presidential contenders to release their tax returns. Obama did it. McCain did it. Both Bushes did it. Mr and Mrs Clinton did it. The precedent was SET by Mr Romney's father, making it all the more poignant. There are strong logical arguments for such transparency: anybody sitting at the head of the US Government needs to make their financial connections known to avoid any accusation of favouritism, bias or corruption. It is a reasonable request to make of ANY Government official.

Your attempt to parallel it with ridiculous conspiracy theorist's attempts to derail a sitting President are, frankly, as embarrassing as the conspiracy theories themselves. Obama is a US citizen. He was born in the US. He is the President of the US, and the US hasn't yet descended into a Marxist Socialist state. Accept it and move on.

The media has gotten to the point of not even attempting to hide their bias anymore. They spin more than than the candidates.

You're confusing political bias for popularism. The media don't care who or what the headline is about, they just care about the headline. If it interests the audience, if it generates page clicks, they'll write it. Romney gets lots of bad press because he does lots of stupid things. Obama gets bad press when he does stupid things too - he just doesn't do them as often as Romney.

Harry Reid's statement about Romney's father was abhorrent - Reid is a douche for saying it. And I agree with Jon Stewart: if you have an accusation, have some proof to back it up or STFU.

But I also agree with other's sentiments here: if Romney has nothing to hide, stop hiding. Do the right thing like every Presidential Candidate has done for the past three decades and show your hand. Like your father did.

Why Harry Reid keeps attacking Mitt Romney - Manu Raju - POLITICO.com

Is that any worse than GOP congresspeople signing the Norquist Pledge?

Chance, both sides have their fair share of sour apples but the GOP definitely has more.

If it were to come out that Romney didn't pay any taxes or very little for those years -- would it bother me?

Yeah.

I would want to know how he got around it -- was it legal or illegal?

If it was legal ... good for him. He would be using the laws that a Congress put in place for almost a century. A messed-up IRS.

Rich people can afford the lawyers to keep from paying taxes . . . . rich democrats, rich republicans, rich independents.

If we find out that Harry Reid was slipped confidential information from someone at the IRS ... then Reid and that person need to enjoy the housing accommodations at Ft. Leavenworth.

if Romney is attacking a senator from one of the smallest states it must have struck a nerve no?

Hussein, the Democrat party and the Democrat media have waged what is, without any question the dirtiest campaign in American history.

So you're comparing Freshmen tea party congressmen with the 72 year old Senate majority leader .......

Never mind

This is Harry's new gig btw

As leader of the Senate he hasn't actually done anything so this new gig clearly excites him - a reason to get up in the morning

But The Dead think it's a good thing

Try again Max

This should give Dems an understanding of why the Congress is so dysfunctional. Who could deal with a low life like Reid? Nasty Pelosi is at least as bad. A year from now you will be saying, Boohoo Romney doesn't compromise with Democrats.

Wait, you just warned them in another post of being apathetic. Make up your mind.[-X

Of course, accusing the sitting president of being a Muslim, Kenian, Communist, Socialist, Fascist, Racist, Radical, US-hating n**er is in NO way dirty. Without any question it's the Democrat party that has been the low side of this campaign.

Not sure who you're referring to as accusing Obama of being Muslim, etc. - I don't think that this person or persons is in a position of power or influence

vs.

Harry Reid
The most powerful Democrat outside of the President as he is the Majority Leader of the Democratic Senate Majority

the equivalence attempt is ludicrous and worse disingenuous

those who suggest/support it have no ability to make coherent arguments on any matter as their credibility is non existent and the partisan default is obvious regardless of available facts

which is good for clarity sakes

here's a recent pic of Harry (on the right) at a meeting with David Axelrod (on the left) discussing matters of national security no doubt

Republicans have been employing dirty tricks and playing nasty for the longest. Then they start crying when the Democrats get rough. Well, boo hoo. Romney could put the issue to rest by releasing his tax returns. The fact that he doesn't suggests that whatever is in them is worse than what Harry Reid is saying.

wow, what does President Obama's bc have to do with Romney being a felon. Get real dude.

Romney has a long long history of avoiding disclosing his tax returns. just check the "historical" facts. He tried to badger Ted Kennedy into disclosing his tax returns on the while not disclosing his own. Same in other races he was in. Same old crap, he has a lot to hide and a lot to lose if his tax returns are made public. He'll go to prison if they are. Rachel Maddow did a wonderful show Friday night articulating beautifully just how corrupt this sleazy character really is. He's not to be trusted. If he has nothing to hide, show the nation his returns. OH - DON'T COME BACK with "oh Obama didn't do this, didn't do that crappy argument". Romey needs to shut up and put up NOW.

^ did romney say ted hadn't paid taxes in 10 years?

did he make up a story about a guy he knows who knows ted and he didn't pay taxes

badgering someone to release returns is one thing - and it's being done

this is different

so check YOUR facts
