Healthcare going forward

Bernie Sanders reacts to Trumps comments about Healthcare being complicated.

http://www.rawstory.com/2017/02/wat...-that-nobody-knew-health-care-is-complicated/

And this is what everyone should be doing to him, because it was a no brainer that it was complicated and even a bigger one to repeal it and have to come up with a new system. Like in the video, Republicans didn't realize they had to do more than just spout rhetoric.

Several comments. You sat the 800 gorilla id givin unecessary tests to avoid liability. And yes, our liabilty system increases the price at all levels. You have all seen the adds on TV of lawyers stirring up class action litigation and there is no limit to what juries can award. Recently a woman got a 72million dollar award claiming that talcom powder caused cancer. The lawyers were quickly running adds to represent other women claiming the used the powder. Trial lawyers are among the biggest democrat contributors because Repoblicans keep trying tort law reform limitimg damages.
Drnyimg a patent monopoly to drug companies recieving R and D money from the government will not work. It often takes hundreds of millions to get drugs through clinical trials and regulatory approval. There is no way to recover that if others can then sell the drug without those expenses. No all drugs researched become saleable. The companies must make enough from the good drugs to pay for the failed attempts plud raising funds for future research and development. Without a period of monopoly, all new drugs will stop, period.
Other countries control prices and drug companies are virtually forced to sell at lower prices to other companies out offering fear the the patent will not be honored. So our consumers are stuck with the cost of development.

Prior to being too santimonious...Republicans have no bragging rights to tort reforms. Both parties are loathe to actually reigning in lawyers; probably because most of them are one.

It would be hilarious...if it wasn't so frightening.

Trump sounded like a 14 year old when he said this.

I don't know how anyone will be able to keep a straight face listening to this gormless village idiot when he addresses Congress about his plans for healthcare reform in the US.

Mark my words.

He is going to promise everyone the BEST PLAN EVER! It will be YUGE! It will be FANTASTIC! And he's not going to give any details until he presents it to Congress sometime soon.

In the meantime, let's build some shit to blow up.

Twenty (20) people earned nearly $410 million dollars managing large US healthcare companies in 2015. [Link]

To state the situation accurately, they got paid huge bucks for making it hard for people to get the medical care they need.

I had this affirmed by the hospital staff where my mom just spend four days: they agreed that the main thing that insurance companies do in medical situations is look for any reason possible NOT to pay, and before that work to make the system so difficult that patients won't figure out how to use their insurance anyway.

Those incomes are high, but the market value of a successful chief executive is high. Think how much the parties spend to get their leader in the presidency, because it can make a huge difference. That is also true of a large company which needs a profit to survive. The CEO is often the difference between large profit or large loss. A successful CEO can be hired away if he is offered more by another company. The company would not pay so much if it did not need to..

Well, that can be fixed easily: eliminate for-profit medical insurance, period; make all medical insurance fraternal.

No. We disagree with your knee jerk reaction that if someone is rich it was at the expense of someone else. Oprah is worth 2 billion plus. Who did she steal it from? Leonardo di Caprio is worth 200 million or so. Who did he impoverish. Bill Gates owned much of Microsoft. Who did he steal from?

Bill Gates tole from the companies along the line that he used unethical and immoral (though legal) means to eliminate, rather than actually competing with them with a better product.

And much of his wealth is due to a marketing method that is little different than extortion.

So he basically said nothing of substance in his speech about health care.

It seems he just kicked the ball around.

Pretty much exactly what I expected he'd do.

Our system does not elect people with relevant experience. Your Obama contributed virtually nothing to Obamacare. He wanted some kind of system; the Congress cobbled together Obamacare and he signed it. You would not be able to find a statement by Obama which would betray more knowledge of healthcare than Trump, perhaps not as much.

Actually Trump has committed the Republicans to a system which provides "insurance"for preexisting illnesses. This is more significant than you think, since it commits to a system in large part paid by the federal government. I cannot say that I am happy about it but maybe I will like the eventual plan. Meanwhile Obamacare is failing.

Nonsense.

He's committed to nothing.

Just vague generalities.

Mark my words. Come mid-March, the White House will have nothing concrete to send to Congress. It will be the same thing as he pulled with Israel and Palestine...'I'll be happy with whatever makes you happy'.

Like Obama, Trump is expecting Congress to design a replacement for the failed democrat plan.

Well the Republicans have had six years to present their replacement plan.

And haven't.

But the point is that once again, Trump is promising all kinds of 'Wonderful, Fantastic, Amazing, Incredible' ideas and solutions...but has nothing to offer.

And we know that the Republicans are now so split on re-tooling the Act that it is likely that nothing will get done. The closer it gets to mid-terms...the farther Congress will kick this down the road.

This obviously is your first state of the union address. Thry are seldom more specific than this.

A. It wasn't technically a State of the Union address.

B. He has been blathering for days now about unveiling his YUGE plans for healthcare.

I suspect that we're going to see months and months go by with no specific plans. Because he doesn't understand it by his own admission and he has no attention for the ugly little details that make something work.

The constitution says that the president shall from time to time give information to Congress about the state os the union. It soes not specify when, so, since he gave then information about three state of the union, it qualifies as a performance of that duty.

Just pointing out that the list that opinterph's linked list, the first 12 of the highest paid are on the provider side, not the payer side. Only Cigna and Aetna's CEOs salaries were in the top 20. A significant number of the CEOs were from the pharmaceutical industry.

A. It wasn't technically a State of the Union address.
Correct. The White House specifically said they were following the pattern of Reagan in not giving an "Annual Message" (aka "The State of the Union Address") that they called the Joint Address to Congress. Whether this was also a subconscious encouragement to light one up is a matter of conjecture.

Neverthe less it satisfies the constitutional requirement that the president, from time to time give information to the congress about the state of the union. There is no requirement for an annual speech.

So some details of the House plan in the works is leaking out. One idea being floated doing away with Obamacare's 'Cadillac Tax' on employer health care plans with a tax on employer health care plans above a certain cap. You might call it a 'Cadillac Tax' ... oh wait...ahh.
