  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

i think i am atheist ... Are you Atheist ?

I don't reason in the "god" logics. Reformulate your question.

I may hope there is no higher power cause if any higher power ever created this world, mankind should commit collective suicide now. If there is any higher power ever having created this universe, it even is mankind's duty to commit suicide NOW. This universe is an insult to mankind.

No. Agnostic. Atheism sounds rather radical in light of the fact that we just don't know.

You only need to look around to know there can be no god - except an extreme sadistic one - having created this world. If this extreme sadist has created this world, we must suicide ourselves right NOW. This world is an insult to mankind.

I believe there is something out there. Maybe we are descendants of aliens? Maybe life ended up here from somewhere else? Or maybe it's just plain evolution? I dunno. I just don't believe in the version of God that these scumbag preachers talk about.

I believe there are spirits all around us too. I don't think you just disappear when you die.

maybe but there is NO evidence what so ever. Zero.

I'm not really sure what my religious beliefs are. I know stuff exists, I've experienced it first-hand multiple times, but idk if that includes a God.

I used to think so too, but I'm on the chapter in The God Delusion called "Why There Almost Certainly Is No God," wherein Richard Dawkins promises to explain why the presence of a god is very improbable.

I'm not certain that can be proved or supported with truly compelling evidence, but I'm going into it with an open mind. Maybe there is scientific evidence suggesting that the presence of a god is unlikely. In that case, I'd resign to calling myself an atheist (I currently count myself agnostic).

If you're trying to do honest research shouldn't you read a book about the "proof" of there being a God as well as the one denying so?

And I love it when people bash others posts saying they believe in God or whatever because they have no proof, while they themselves have no proof there isn't one. What is that called? Hip? Hippie? Hippo? Oh yes... hypocrisy.

When you die, you get recycled. Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Complex proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids, to carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur.

If you have kids, your DNA may linger a while after the rest of you is gone. (If you don't have kids, versions of your DNA will still linger, as long as there are living beings on this planet.)

If you've made an impression on other people, your ideas will live after you. For a while, anyway.

Pretty much.

Ahh - the "false balance."

Sometimes the average of two different ideas is not right, or better than either idea on its own. Sometimes one idea is right, and the other idea is just wrong.

Formerly. Although I don't believe in god, atheism has come to mean more than just that. Atheism now represents a movement which advocates generally against religion. I'm only interested in rebutting the particulars of some religions.

There is no such thing as Atheism.
No Atheism association or community or what so ever ...

I guess a lot of people do use the term atheism in reference to antireligion but, in fact, they are not the same thing.

Thank you! So the short time room mate of the bff was involved with atheism. They held meetings at the local library. :) I told her it was too much like a religion, reveling in their non-belief. What's the difference between the two? They both required way more thought than was necessary, and both had weekly meetings that one was expected to attend.

My non-belief is so thorough I'm not required to think about it.
