That means he was both deceitful and vainglorious. In short, a perfect addition to a reality show cast.
Either you "got" Elvin or you didn't. And I think it was made pretty clear that anyone who didn't "get" Elvin was either exceptionally jealous, extremely bitter, or both.
Which is why he's perfect for the reality show.
Ideally, the cast would be Elvin plus six haters. This would work well, as the viewers would rally around Elvin, and hate what the others were doing to him. The hates would probably start off working alone, but eventually they'd start teaming up to cause Elvin grief and mini-crises. There'd be several tear-filled episodes where Elvin wonders to the camera why everybody hates him so, followed by gritted teeth and declarations of determination not to let the haters get him down.
We MIGHT try Elvin, five haters, and one Elvin fan, but I'm thinking his fan should be as ugly and pitiful as possible. Thus, when Elvin takes the fan under his wing, he'll give the losers in the audience somebody to identify with. They can idolize Elvin as they fantasize about being protected and cared for by him, just as our resident Elvin fan is. And they'd watch as the supporter quickly develops a full-blown crush on Elvin, fantasizing from afar, maybe finally getting a rather chaste kiss from him twenty episodes in.

Elvin
three haters
one neutral who no one but Elvin understands but who things understanding is for losers
one neutral who works hard to get everyone to "just get along" but almost always manages to make things worse
one schizo you never know who he'll support . . . or be, for that matter
