Jean Grey- The Phoenix

Hmm, maybe the Marvel offices are cutting down on psychics (how many are left who actually wield telepathy as their primary weapon? Emma and Betsy barely use their's, and the Cuckoos have been constantly off-panel) because they only now realize just how unstoppable people who can control your brain are. Hell, if I had telepathy, I'd make the guy who dumped me eat his own arms.

I remember back looong ago (before I was a comic fan), Emma still needed to invent a mechanical doohickey to enable her to switch her mind with someone else's (Storm's namely). Also, psi-bolts could be dodged by stepping out of the way! How weird is that? Now, she can pull out a woman's entire subconscious and throw it into someone else's without effort. Plus she can make a person come. That's awesome.

On a side note, why does Claremont obsess with making his characters immune to psionics? First Kitty, then Storm, then Sage, and now Betsy. Silly old man...

Marvels, Sage (at least) could have her immunity argued because her brain operates like it's mechanical and thus running on a different wavelength than a normal mind; Betsy's immunity is likely due to mental discipline for her ninjaness, and Kitty has been said to not be in a complete synch with the world around her (so if her brain is also intangible and thus "not there", it's probably really difficult to get a lock on it). At least, that's what I would argue in favor. Storm is a little baffling...

Luminum, the comics are in boxes and stashed away. If I can rearrange them and find the Excaliburs, I'll take pics with my camera (no scanner)

Hey, does anybody know where this pic is from?

No clue. It's an interesting costume, though.

This is what I read on Storm:

"Storm can alter her visual perceptions so as to see electrical energy patterns in an object and in the air. She can also change the body temperature of anyone by manipulating that temperature and lowering it or raising it. That gives her the stunning ability to drain the electrical energy from mutants brainwaves that will literally cause them to lose power...Not only can she stop most physical attacks with her powers, but she can also generate electric fields, magnetic fields, high-density pressure fields, and even electromagnetic fields...She also has some minor telepathic defenses (creating intense electrical currents and indestructable pressure domes that can cut through a mountain.)"

Psylocke lost her telepathy because of her battle with the Shadow King and her obligation to keep him contained. Currently she only uses TK and has no TP. Her psionic immunity comes from Jamie, who revived her and altered her to be able to see past psychic visions and reality warps and also be immune to psychic attacks.

And yes, apparently telepaths have difficulty connecting to her mind when she's all phased out.

Here's a question; if Cassandra Nova is such a skilled telepath, whow ould win in a battle between Quentin Quire and Cassandra Nova?

Haha, that's great. Thanks for that.

Here's another Cassandra question. When they study her they say that she has access to all the latent mutant abilities in Xavier's genome. So does thta mean that Xavier has all the mutant abilities such as making that armor and healing but that he can't use them?

It's shown in the Ultimate Line that Charles has minor Telekinetic gifts. Maybe the same holds true for the 616 universe, that's how Cassandra managed to do the shit she did.

And Cassandra can beat Quentin. That guy has no imagination whatsoever.

Marvels said:

I'd heard something about the minor telekinetic gifts. It seems Marvel likes to toss in the occasional TK burst with most of its telepaths. At least it's a slide to a similar domain. I still don't get how Emma developed a physical ability as well as a mental one after so many years.

Read Astonishing...
Oh hell, I'll justs poil it. Emma's secodnary mutation was "given" to her ina deal with cassandra Nova before Genosha was destroyed so that Emma would survive and become a sleeper agent for Cassandra in the X-Men. Hence the "stop the cab" part in New X-Men at that critical moment where Cassandra switched minds with Charles.

when is jean coming back? i stopped reading the books when scott was mind fucking emma and than jean died. i don't like this scott/emma shit.i actually just started buying astonishing x-men after i took 6 yrs off the books. i really like it. i love that they have a gay story in ultimate x-men but i don't buy that cause the art sucks.anyway, i never cared for the emma character. anyone remember when finola hughes played her in a gen x movie?

Blue, they resurrected Jean like 100 years in the future. It's a weird thing.

Luminum, thanks for the fill-in. I stopped reading New X-Men when I got wind of Grant Morrison writing it. The artwork nailed the X-Men coffin for me.

I actually hated most of the New X-Men art, especially Frank Quietly's, but I grew to hate everyone else's (except one) and except Frank Quietly's. There's somethign so rugged and fresh about it that I love now.

As you can probably surmise, I love Emma in all shapes and forms. Finoal Hughes playing Emma Frost just looks bad from the pictures I've seen. What a wig...

But yeah, as of now, the writers at marvel have said that Jean's not coming back and hasn't been involved in anything that plans to bring her back so far. Phoenix Endsong was supposed to wrap up Jean's story for an indefinite amoutn of time and Endsong II will probably deal with one of the Cuckoos. New X-Men, like Taiga stated, finished with Jean resurrecting 100 years in the future when the earth was in crisis caused when Scott refused to go back and run the school with Emma.

Hank was left with the school and his inability to meet the school's financial and structural needs drove him to use the mutant power enchancing drug, Kick which was actually all laced with the sentient Sublime bacteria colony. It took over Hank's body and he became this mad scientist (much like Dark beast) who's goals were basically the creation of perfect lifeforms (the U-Men tie-in) and the extinction of those it deemed unworthy. He engineers things usingNightcrawler's DNA and builds an army of "Crawlers" which mindlessly attack his enemies with a slew of powers he engineered them to have. His final goal is to resurrect the Phoenix because she exemplifies the purifying force he needs to destroy that which "does not work" but an aged Logan and a few others who resist him (such as Beak, a mutant with the wings and head of an eagle who considers his grandfather Barnell Husk his idol and always strives to be as great a hero as his grandfather ;) and even Cassandra Nova) manage to convince Jean of who she is again. She extracts the Sublime bacteria colony out of Hank and ascends to a higher plane of existence where she is surrounded by other avatars of the Phoenix (such as a boy with a curiously familiar pink Mohawk) who regard her reverently as the White Phoenix of the Crown. She looks into the stream of time of the universe she holds in her hand and sees the future and past events (such as events that happened in New X-Men) and decides to sever the future she resurrected in and sees that it happened because Scott refused to be with Emma and run the Academy after she died. So she tells Scott to live and psychicly pushes Scott and Emma together and flies off with the other Phoenix avatars. Back in that critical moment, Scott accepts Emma's offer of love and responsibility with a kiss and so ends New X-men and Jean Grey.

Wow. Thanks for the fill-in there, Luminum. I did not collect that story and was rather lost about why she was in the future like that.

So, what is your favorite Jean/Phoenix outfit? I'll have to say mine is the one after Cyclops got possessed by Apocalypse, where the gold phoenix hangs from her shoulders down her front.

That one is definitely hot. Let me look through and post what I like:

This one's cool looking...
jean-bigcostume9.jpg

This one just looks really cool because of the way it's drawn.
jean-bigcostume10.jpg

A huge fan of the classic look :)
jean-bigcostume12.jpg

This was the costume you weret alking about, and it does look really cool.

But there is something to be said about the all-leather look...

I adore Emma's old outfir with the corset and the white cape. She was awesome, especially when she had the whip. And Jean looked cool as the Black Queen.

..and I thought I was a comic buff. You guys put me to shame. The phoenix resurrects Jean in the current issue of UXM.

And Psylocke kicks everybody's ass.
And Dazzler. I'd like to see more of her. If she wasn't created for gay X-Fans then I don't know what for...

Wait what?!

Jean comes back in the next issue of UXM?! No fucking way. That's complete bullshit if it's true (irony...). I have to read this now...

If it's issue 473, then it hasn't happened...and 473 is the June issue...

Didn't Jean make an appearance in UXM recently? The Grey's End storyline? Sure it was her angel, but that counts as well I guess.

In UXM, they're fighting this anti-Phoenix creature (or reverse Phoenix or whatever), so chances are that silly Claremont person is going to give us a glimpse of good ol' Jeannie.

Which reminds me, in the Foursaken arc, it's Uatu who reveals to Psylocke that the X-Men are up against the the aforementioned thingie. Isn't that kind of...interfering?

P.S. Morrisson and Quitely are awesome. New X-Men brought me back to the comic fold. Whedon following up was just icing on the cake. I just wish it was him who was behind X3...

Jean was "in" an issue after her death in UXM where Rachel is given a shard of M'kron Crystal that Jean used tos ave her essence in so that she could speak freely with Rachel, but that's about it. Also, Mojo broke free and threw a "Jean Bomb" at them that looked like Jean with those weird ass face gadgets on it and it had her phoenix costume and fire wings and where it landed, it blew up.

Isn't the opposite of Phoenix Galactus? I don't think they're fighting him, but they are fighting something juicy.

I thought Emma's diamond form was purposely shown to progress the way it did (skin-organs) because that's the way Bobby's powers progressed and she was instrumental in that.

Luminum: Nah, Galactus' origins were shown in Avengers/JLA (where Wanda kicked the JLA's ass single-handedly). Which means that unlike the Phoenix, something else gave him life. Besides, he doesn't follow a set routine like the flaming pigeon.

Also, in the end of the Grey's End (hah) storyline, when all the Greys got what the bad end of the karma stick, Jean makes a short appearance to Rachel (which was different from the holo crystal thingie) and comforts her.

By the way, if Emma stays in diamond form, will she be immortal? Diamonds don't age after all, at least not the way we do. So all she should do is turn diamond after she's forty and she'll never get a wrinkle for the rest of bloody eternity.
