She was so good at never acting her age, and that's why we loved her so. Just a week ago even at 81 she seemed to have so much life in her. Another great comedic icon is gone, we'll miss you Joan.

Her voice was getting more and more horse---they told her they could do something to help her---it was elective surgery----she didn't have to do it----but someone should have told her that at 81---there are risks with a thing stuck down your throat when you are sedated----she stopped breathing first which caused her heart to stop----

Im new to her but eversince frm recent years, I started to getting familiar with her (and her antics) on tv. She cracked me up in one of fashion police edition; commenting a celeb with long train gown "This train gown is longer than Lindsey Lohan hook up list!"

I am deeply saddened by Joan Rivers' death, I admired her greatly. She is a comedy legend and I enjoyed watching her in whatever she did, be it as a red carpet interviewer, a stand-up comedian or a television host. Also, she was a staunch supporter of the LGBT community, which is always a bonus, and with her passing we have lost a loyal ally and friend. Rest in peace Ms Rivers, this world will be a less funny place without you.

The interesting thing about Joan Rivers is that she was only that foul mouthed woman on stage- more so in her later years. Her childhood dream was to be an actress. The brash and confident person that Joan was when she was doing standup was all acting. People who knew her talk about what a soft-spoken, smart and generous person she was... although she was still a fighter when she needed to be.
Back in the early 80s, when celebrities were running away from the the AIDS crisis, Joan was one of the first who was vocal in her loyalty to gay friends when they became ill. And she freely gave time, money and visibility to AIDS organizations... again, a fighter.
Occasionally the real Joan could be seen- like when she interviewed Betty Davis, Lucille Ball, Sylvester...

Actually, according to the CDC, life expectancy for women in the U.S. is age 86. For men...77. Still, Joan lived a long life.
Unfortunate. I had a feeling it was coming...but at least she lived a long life. She surpassed life expectancy and will always be remembered.
