The interesting thing about Joan Rivers is that she was only that foul mouthed woman on stage- more so in her later years. Her childhood dream was to be an actress. The brash and confident person that Joan was when she was doing standup was all acting. People who knew her talk about what a soft-spoken, smart and generous person she was... although she was still a fighter when she needed to be.

Back in the early 80s, when celebrities were running away from the the AIDS crisis, Joan was one of the first who was vocal in her loyalty to gay friends when they became ill. And she freely gave time, money and visibility to AIDS organizations... again, a fighter.

Occasionally the real Joan could be seen- like when she interviewed Betty Davis, Lucille Ball, Sylvester...

I've read a lot of people say how generous & gentle she was in her private life. I've got no doubt the public & private Joan we're different, but I will always remember the public one, it's the one I knew

I can't stand SJW's at all, and all they're doing is causing trouble for the entire LGBT community and setting us back. Progress will be very slow, unless those people learn to stop being militant extremist hate-filled assholes.

This is alot like saying Fed Phelps set back the Civil Rights Movement. He didn't. He may have actually done some good for it even. In either case, you can be sure that one of today's 20 something SJWs will be building the next Westboro Baptist Church 50 years from now. They're people to best distance yourself from.

I remember some of Joan's first days on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

I just watched one of her stand up shows on Netflix (?) the other day.

Can you explain what you mean here? The gay rights movement has always been militant in its history, today is no different. Before everyone switched over to the wanting to be married a lot of the biggest gay rights groups were all about smashing the family unit and monogamy.

Well, regarding Vitamin's post, while totally ignoring the first sentence (can't parse it, sorry) I do know some sjw's like that. That said there's also not a number of them and I'm not seeing the dislike of Joan Rivers' as much different from the dislike of Fred Phelps, come to that. They're both dead and they've both said some hateful shit. Seems to be a matter of degree, not kind.

*and no, I don't care what she believed in her soul of souls or what-have-you. Actions have consequences, the goodness in someone's heart, not so much. Just in case anyone wanted to try and point to judging someone on their beliefs instead of what they actually did. While she may have adored gay men, she was shitty to trans people, women and quite a few other groups as well.

I think I just took against the SJW jibes because the place it normally gets used is to just down debate about important things. The places where the term SJW tends to get used are places were homophobic, racist, and transphobic language are chucked to be edgy and someone has called them on it - everyone turns around and starts screaming SJW and tries to shut down criticism.

I've seen sjw used three ways - One of for people blogging/nagging about 'rights' that aren't actual rights, one is about people blogging about rights but doing it in a way where their natural allies (and at least half the people that're actually part of the group) loath the little bastards, and last but not least would be your description above.

We're discussing this topic on another forum, friend of mine typed something concise, figured I'd share it.

"Also, let me get this straight: If I were to make an easy-to-think-of joke (and there are several that immediately spring to mind) that insults Rivers, that's a-okay. Because humour is supposed to push boundaries and whatever. But, if I actually engage in criticism of her work instead, that's not a-okay? How is that at all consistent?"

But here's the thing. Joan was a comedian who's sold mission in life was to make people laugh. Even she would laugh at jokes about her death because that was what she was all about.


But to go around and say "Joan Rivers was a peice of shit, I hope she suffered when she died." Isn't funny, it's fucking cruel.

True fact that Joan Rivers and Michael Jackson used the same plastic surgeon.

They actually had a lot of other stuff in common: They both spent billions of dollars in plastic surgery and still ended up looking like a creepy old white lady, they are both more popular now that they're dead and they both raised a chimp.

The thing that annoys me most about Tumblr sjws is how hypocritical they truly are.
