Re: Lady Gaga jumps the shark, models "space dress" gimmick

Great music just doesn't need propeller beanies, smudge pots, KISS makeup, glam, or the rest of the distractions. When all of that began working its way in 50 years ago, it marked a decline in music, not an enhancement.

Theatrics and music have been intertwined for a very long time. Costumes, props, masks, storylines, characters....these elements are often found in the company of music.

Isn't the idea that there is some pure form of music, free from distraction, a sort of bias?

Re: Lady Gaga jumps the shark, models "space dress" gimmick

She looks like she is strapped to a helicopter. Up, up, and away!

I'm used to her dress style and "fashion sense". This like par for the course for her. I'm neither "yay" or "nay" to most of her gimmicks. I just enjoy some of her songs and let her get off on her own wardrobe dys/malfunctions. ;)

Yeah, what I really like about it all is that it just sounds like she is having a conversation and not that much of an interview. And the fact that all the stuff about Madonna and Perez is that she doesn't care and it is all stupid. She doesn't feed into it at all.

Will Interscope lose $25 million promotional bet on Lady Gaga 'ARTPOP' bomb?

On Saturday, it was revealed that Interscope, Lady Gaga's label, has spent $25 million dollars to promote her flop album "ARTPOP," which is set to sell around 250 thousand copies in its first week -- that's a 75 percent drop from the first week album sales of "Born This Way" only two years ago. This weekend, plenty of Lady Gaga's little monsters prostituted themselvesonline, offering gay sex for people who buy at least 30 copies of "ARTPOP."

Some have compared the fate of "ARTPOP" to Michael Jackson's "Invincible," where $30 million was spent on the promotion for an album that didn't even launch one solid hit single. But "ARTPOP" is really Lady Gaga's "Glitter."

So, how was the money spent? We talked to a music industry analyst (who wants to be referred to as 'Jacob' for this story), who has worked at both Warner Brothers and Arista over the past twenty years. He works closely with people from Interscope and told us that the past year has been a huge nightmare for Lady Gaga and Interscope.

Lady Gaga’s ‘ARTPOP’ Flop Down 75% From ‘Born This Way’ First Week Sales (Updated)

The underwhelming album sales won’t touch her previous effort’s 1.1 million — Amazon promo or not

Lady Gaga’s new album “ARTPOP” has had plenty of promotion behind it, but sales are expected to fall well short of her previous offering, “Born This Way.”

First-week sales of roughly 260,000 copies are projected for the pop diva’s new release, according to Billboard. That would be a more-than 75 percent drop-off from her prior album, which bowed with 1.1 million units moved.

That impressive prior number was undoubtedly bolstered by an Amazon.com promotion that sold “Born This Way” for 99 cents during two days of its initial week. Billboard estimates that the MP3 marketing play accounted for 440,000 of the platinum-plus open. So crunching numbers, that means “ARTPOP” is still only paced to sell 40 percent of the Week 1 copies that “Born This Way” did at full cost.

The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart with first-week sales of 65,608 copies, making Lady Gaga the third female solo artist in chart history to top the chart with each of her first three studio albums, following Avril Lavigne and Susan Boyle.

I can never be arsed with the fanboy/fangirl arguing over which one of their icons sold most records or made it to the top of the charts in x amount of days/hours - as if that's an accurate indication of the overall quality of the music.

If you're in it for sales and numbers then I'd say you're into music for the wrong reasons...

I'm personally not into at all. I posted to counter eviltwintwo's post about trying to be negative with the sales of the record even though she has still been at the top of the charts. The poster was only posting a part of the story.

And I would just say just because the album didn't sell that well in the first week, doesn't mean it won't pick up some sales later anyway.

Late to the Artpop party but I am recently starting to feel "Applause". Other songs will have to grow.

Lady Gaga Lashes Out At 'Overflow Of Hate' On Social Media

Lady Gaga just scored her second No. 1 album, "ARTPOP," which debuted atop this week's Billboard 200 chart. However, the pop superstar has taken to social media to express disappointment toward those who have met her latest achievements with an "overflow of hate."

"I put so much love into my music, into my shows, I make it all for you. I'll never understand the overflow of hate sent my way," Gaga posted on her Twitter and Facebook on Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 20), hours after "ARTPOP" was crowned the No. 1 album in the country. "Or maybe thats what entertainment is now. It's more fun to point & laugh than appreciate the artist. I'll keep rehearsing my steps ‪#showbiz‬

Her whole promo for this album was a complete mess. She was all over the place without any real vision on what she wanted to do.
