Looking - Season 2

Jonathan Groff on the ‘Looking’ Backlash, the State of Gay TV, and Anal Bleaching

The Looking star knows you had big expectations for HBO’s Big Gay TV Show. And he’s glad the show doesn’t have to live up to them anymore.
It wasn’t the gay Sex and the City. It wasn’t a gay version of Girls. It wasn’t so many things that people wanted it to be. Looking, as it turned out, was just a hyper-specific, almost diarist look at a group of gay men in San Francisco dealing with their friendships, love lives, and sex lives.

Looking was just Looking.

Now that we’re all done looking for our own hopes and dreams of what HBO’s first “gay show” would or should be, Looking is allowed to return for its second season as itself—with its own warm, surprisingly intimate identity and without the impossible-to-please expectations of what we all wanted it to be.

Hercules & Love Affair - Blind (Frankie Knuckles Remix)

This show is extremely boring, I love watching anything and everything gay on TV even if it's not diverse which most aren't and filled with nothing but white people but this show right here just seems so stagnant like from the first episode this season into the woods, it began just like the first episode from last season which they were also into the woods.

I just want progression and drama. I'm guessing this show isn't a comedy since I never laugh so I really want this to be a good drama. I want the best for Looking but right now Days of our Lives is giving me more drama then Looking and that's pretty sad for a premium cable show. I didn't learn anything new by watching the season premiere from any of the characters, I don't really feel like I know any of the characters. I understood and knew all the queer as folk characters first episode but it's season two of Looking and I still don't know any of the characters any better then I did the first episode. Last nights season premiere seriously need to be discussed because they went into the woods, danced, had sex then it ended. What was the climactic scene from last night that was the highlight moment of the show??? There was none and that's the problem with almost every episode of Looking as a drama, is that me as the viewer sit and watches every episode waiting for the climax and you watch for half an hour and see oh the credits it's must be over, that was it. They went in the woods, danced and now it's off.

Datjacob--Days of Our lives does have the good gay story line with Sonny/Paul/Will. I watched Looking today and 15 minutes into, I just thought, is this over yet, I've got so many things to watch in my DVR, including GIRLS, which has far more interesting characters. I will keep watching.

Is it the writing or the acting, or both? (that made episode 1 of season two so average...)

So no one died, and there were no dramatic exits or revelations in this 30 minute opener, but to say nothing happened and that there is no character development is just false.

Let's review:

Patrick revealed his guilt about ending things with Richie in the way that he did and that he is still seeing his boss, who is in a relationship simultaneously. He ran from commitment and because Richie wasn't his "ideal" partner. He would rather be a sidepiece to his boss than in a committed relationship with someone who is poorer and less white than he his. Then he questions himself after the act. Still confused and insecure about who he is and ultimately questioning why he cannot find love (or why he ran from it).

Dom revealed his relationship, and feeling of distance, with an older (although not by much) man who has had a whole lifetime of experience Dom has no idea about, but for some reason has not brought up much of it. Dom gets jealous, Dom exercises the "open relationship policy" to cope with the fact that he isnt as close to Lynn's heart as he would imagine.

Augustin is still a dick, and he is showing interest in someone living with HIV. The episode hints at the fact that he may have a substance abuse problem, which could explode given the right stressful situation.

It was a little slow, but you can't say nothing happened. The major downfall of this episode is that there was no Richie :grrr:

I agree. Average it was, but some of the characters in GIRLS are so far left, its hard to believe some of them would exist, so it is hard to compare characters I could see as believable with ones that are not.

Namely:
Adam
Shoshana
Hannah
Adam's Sister

Checkinthingsout, I agree with everything you said.

GIF-cap: 'Looking for the Promised Land'

The boys go into the woods.

Looking, HBO’s series about three gay guys (and a straight girl), was deemed not boring enough to live another season and so we welcome you back — and for those who are new here, hello — to another ten weeks of Dom’s mustache, GIFs of Kevin’s butt, snappy Doris remarks, and what we can only believe to be is a long-running performance art project about the depths of self-hate by Agustin.

So before we get started, let’s recap where we left off: Patrick is alone, Dom is growing up, and Agustin is a (possibly drug-addicted) asshole.

After all the sudden drama at the end of last season, the boys have found their friendships strained and in much need of some bonding. So where do they go? Into the woods!

I rewatched it today and I have to say, to me it was the funniest the show ever got so far. I love Doris

Why do people who didn´t like the first episodes finished the season and also why do people who didn´t like the whole first season are watching the second now? Of course it will be similar. Maybe the need to hate on something? Or maybe deep down you can´t wait to see the new episode but don´t want to admit to yourself that you´re hooked on it? Pathetic.

I didten watch all of season 1 but wanted to watch the first episode of the second season to see if they had come up with something more intresting new some shows do become better after some time but no it continued in the same dull direction as the first season but guess i should have known that since its the guy who did "weekend" which i didten like either that produces the show

I just think that the storylines are really flat, no carectar development and the acting is not that great

Agreed...The fact that there is a season 2 means that a significant number of people watched it and wanted more...

Not sure why this thread seems to attract those who do not...

I didn´t mean it directly at you, but some posts from both threads. Still, if you didn´t watch the whole first season, how do you expect to understand the new episode?

Couldn't make it to friends to watch. If it's worth it I'll watch later in the week.

Didn't know there was a season 2 thread, so I'm dropping in here to join (and follow) the fun.

I was one of those people who weren't initially *sold* on the show, but I like it enough now to follow. And I've reached the point where I know I truly enjoy a show...I actually care about what happens to the people involved. Dom reminds me a lot of myself in some ways. Augustin is a complete DICK...but I actually do find myself wishing the best for him.

Patrick...adorable, but he's a hot ass mess. I almost feel like he needs someone in his life to give him some real hardcore advice and guidance, because his friends are too lax at his stupidity. Sometimes laughing about everything doesn't foster maturity.

***possible spoilers***

I haven't seen the second episode of season 2 yet, but will catch it later tonight. What confuses me the most about Patrick (and people like him who start affairs with people who are in relationships), is that do they honestly think that is the best way to begin a relationship with another person? I know the "if they do it to someone else...they will do it to you" mentality is old and played out, but sometimes one must use common sense.

I'm wondering if Patrick seriously has the delusion that Kevin views him as anything BUT a sideline ho that he can get ass from on the regular? I don't think that brings about respect. And I seriously hope Patrick is not hoping this will turn into a relationship at some point in the future? :dead: Even if it does, I think it spells disaster. a trainwreck waiting to happen. Relationships that start out as affairs, cheating and such usually don't end well...

I would also have a hard time respecting someone enough to want to enter a relationship with them, when I know they were fucking around and betraying their better half while trying to get with me. This is not about cheating, but more about someone's character, imo.

Oh well, I'm bringing too many of my personal feelings about things to the table. Those are my thoughts for now.

I am really excited to see how Dom's journey with starting his own business turns out. I empathize so much with him because I'm trying to find myself professionally, and it's neat to see the sparkle in his eye when talking about his goal(s).

Augustin...i hope he cleans his act up and becomes less of an asshole this season.

We'll see what develops.
