Lost: The Final Season!!!!!! Feb. 2, 2010!!

i feel like many things WERE answered but because there was hardly ever a time when a character would say, point blank, to another character "this is the reason for this" which is how story-telling is done in so many TV series and movies and such these days, people aren't willing to be confident in their ability to understand what they're seeing & hearing as THE answer. instead, we want the creator to just tell us because we're pretty lazy and bad at thinking for ourselves anymore.

i read an interview where either Damon or Carlton said something to the effect of "what people think they want and what people will find entertaining are usually very different" and i think that kind of sums up the viewer's frustration with LOST very well. a scene were Jacob sits across from Jack and tells him everything about the Island for 30+ minutes is not as entertaining as the mysteries of the Island. and the reason people started (and kept) watching LOST in the first place was because it was a show that presented a mysterious Island with lots of questions and it told a story in a unique way (at least for TV). all of a sudden people don't want those things from the show, which makes sense since it's ending, but we know for a fact that everything will not be answered and i think we should be okay with that.

anyways, just my little rant... i'm so excited for the Finale, although sad to see my favorite show go. can't wait to re-watch everything once it's over.

that is exactly how i feel. i feel completely satisfied with the show because i feel like i know all there is to know. people need to figure out that lindelof and cuse aren't gonna hold our hands. the show is a jigsaw puzzle, and the pieces HAVE been given to us. piece it together yourself.

another thing that a lot of people have been complaining about is that lindelof and cuse stated that not all questions will be answered because it would sort of disillusion the whole series and just turn everything cheap. they compared it to how the new trilogy of star wars explained that the force was really bacteria that did crazy shit.

that being said, i'm completely fine with that. LOST is a mythological show, or a fairy tale if you wanna go that far. in myths and fairy tales there are no explanations for how or why things happen. they just do. does anyone ever question how in greek mythology the mother and father of the gods just happened to be? has anyone ever speculated in cinderella where the fairy godmother came from? no.

the island just is and always was.

i think you're missing the point of jacob's explanation. since the first season it was shown that the characters' lives were complete shit. no matter what they did or what happened to them, they were never truly happy. they never had true meaning in their lives. kate found meaning after becoming a mother. and yes, she was genuinely happy for the first time in her life when she had aaron.

aaron was never supposed to be important. the psychic said that claire MUST raise her baby or terrible things would happen. claire was separated from aaron for 3 years, and kate raised him instead. and indeed in those 3 years and beyond terrible things DID happen. and there may be more to come.

lindelof and cuse admitted in many interviews that they had to drop a lot of stories they wanted to expand upon since they introduced more things that they felt were important. walt was one of them.

and if there are any other mysteries that you think haven't been cleared up, i'd like to discuss them :D
I'm sorry but that is BS. The brief time they showed Kate as a mother. It didnt seem like this amazing transformative experience. It always looked like she was babysitting someone else's kid. And yea Claire's life did suck when she wasnt with Aaron. But she was clearly set up by that psychic so she would be forced to raise this child. Then all of a sudden she gets lured away by a ghost and Kate just grabs Aaron up like a pet hamster. anyone with common sense can see there was something else planned that the writers were too lazy or dumb to complete.
idk, the only really "big" mysteries that will annoy me if they go unanswered are Walt's specialness and the inability to have babies on the island.

just about everything else I'm perfectly willing to toss off as unimportant (polar bears, etc) or coincidence meant to show the importance of destiny (the numbers).

*** spoilers ***

supposedly Walt will be in tonight's episode in some capacity

*** spoilers ***

Personally I never gave a shit about the polar bears and was always confused about why other people cared so much.

that ghost that lured her away was the man in black. who we found out was recruiting for people to help him escape the island. i find that is a huge part of the show actually.
the psychic introduced in season 1 was a part of the prevalent theme of fate vs. free will.
the terrible things that happened when claire and aaron were separated aren't limited to just claire's life. if you hadn't noticed, after claire and aaron were separated a lotta crazy shit started happening: the explosion of the freighter, the time displacement of the island, the deaths of many many people, and i'm sure there's more that i'm not listing. as for the kate thing, agree to disagree.

i'm really surprised you made it this far if you're so annoyed by the writing.

I know the ghost was the MIB. But all the shit that happened after Claire and Aaron were separated have nothing to do with their separation. In your logic I guess everything bad is due their separation. that's it. Mystery solved. Are you kidding? Tons of bad shit happened before that so that makes no sense.

I've made it this far because I, like all my friends, thought the first few seasons were good. And seemed to be leading up to a payoff. But unfortunately now most of us are too invested to just stop cold turkey. That doesnt mean I have to watch blindly and rationalize and justify every lousy, useless, terrible excuse for a plot that writers dole out.

I dont need mysteries to be solved or explanations to be made in a step-by-step or paint by numbers way. All I want and what everyone deserves is logical explanations that have the same authenticity and thoughtfulness as when they were introduced.

I'm so excited to see what happens! At this point do you think anyone will survive? This show has had the most deaths ever!

honestly though, the things after their separation were much more large scaled. yes, terrible things happened when claire and aaron were together, but after they were apart...

at least that's my interpretation.

too bad that LOST is a sci-fi/fantasy show that was disguised as a realistic one in the first few seasons. if there are any explanations, they're not gonna be logical.

to a certain extent, I think we just have to accept some limitations of the medium.

plot threads end up getting dumped for a myriad of reasons. actors age, quit, get sentenced to jail for DUI, etc; plots not resonating with viewers; time issues... I'd consider Aaron and some random psychic from season 1 to be relatively low profile in the grand scheme of things and I wouldn't lose much sleep if it were never addressed.
That wasnt some random psychic. he is the reason Claire ended up on the island. That episode basically said that he knew that Claire would end up on the island and thereby be forced to raise her baby. Because she "had to be influence in raising of this child." And in the first three seasons, Claire and her baby/pregnancy was one of the biggest storylines on the show. It is not something that writers should have the luxury dismiss or explain so haphazardly.

You know, it is not about this finale, the destination. It really is all about the journey getting to here. Truly has been amazing and thrilling and even sometimes aggravating and confusing. We have all come to here with Lost and we all have this incredible experience and we can fuss and discuss, hopefully for a time to come.

Wrap your arms around yourself or someone and enjoy this destination as our journey comes to and end.

I guess you have a point joesman. And i'm not gonna lie, it was pretty fuckin cool seeing like every characters name in the opening credits. I was mostly just hoping for Elizabeth Mitchell.

The signal keeps breaking up! I thought it was my antenna, but "we are experiencing difficulties" keeps flashing on my screen. I am missing a lot! I will have to watch this on-line tomorrow again! :(

I loved it. I still have a lump in my throat; it was so emotional  I really don't quite know what it all means, as a few of the details in this episode alone just don't fit together no matter how you look at it. But this storytelling and acting was just so unprecedented for television. All the awakenings were so moving.

Damon and Carlton said it would end with more questions, so I'm not quite sure there is really anything to "misinterpret". I think the ending was designed to keep people talking long after the end and make it more memorable. But my final verdict is: I am pleased and satisfied with how it ended.

Well I have to say that I liked it! After a great run they ending was just as good.

I LOVED it! But I still wanna know what the damned island was lol

But it was real. I couldn't have been purgatory, that doesn't make any sense.
