Here in Florida we have noted the Mexican invasion for some time now - there are at lest three Mexican grocery stores within 10 miles of where I am sitting. In East Texas, one can observe that we are not only being invaded, we are being invaded and colonized by Mexican peasants, and the government isn't doing squat.

It's funny to me how so many people have issues with Mexicans coming over the border and settling in the same areas that manifest destiny took from them. People talk about them as if they are roaches or some sub human life form just because they want to work and settle in America.

No, what is ridiculous is that illegal immigrant supporters use the argument of "manifest destiny" and the Mexican-American War to somehow justify illegals to come over here and it is OKAY that they do considering those lands belonged to them (Mexicans actually took it from Natives but let's not get into that).

Slavery was NOT an invention of the white man, it was universal throughout history among all groups of people. Europeans and Americans were the first culture in the world that actually outlawed slavery and stamped it out in Asia , Africa, and the Middle East by force over the objections of the indigenous cultures.

And colonial powers were not the first ones to abolish slavery, in instances where they did abolish it, it was not because they had all of a sudden become so compassionate, but it was because they had already reaped all the benefits of slavery by then, and immediately afterwards, implemented forced labour on fields (which is no different than slavery), and implemented indentured servitude, which was very similar to slavery. They hadn't all of a sudden become compassionate, they used such issues to continue and justify all the other injustices they were committing in colonies, the "civilising mission", they were calling it.

And yes, it still exists in a lot of places, you may remember that the United States Department of Justice along with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers freed more than a 1000 slaves in Southern Florida in 1997.
