Need Motivation To Lose Weight?!

Yeah i still live at home too right now, and i dont buy groceries so it gets tough trying to find stuff for me to eat. especially when everyone else in the house is always buying all this fattening food and stuff...But i'm going to start buying my own food, and i cook for myself anyways. Thats been my biggest problem...Having Healthy food around to eat. But i've also cut Soda out of my diet, its been weeks since i've drinken one. i'm happy about that, I havent had anything Carbonated or with Cafine in it. All i drink is Water, and Herbal teas with Honey. I've been pretty good about working out since i've started posting here, i dont work out daily but i do at least 3-4 times a week, and some weeks when i have time it is daily. I just need to really work on what i eat.

I guess i'll post here too. Maybe it'll help.

I've been disliking the gut i'd been putting on, but it wasn't that noticeable. Still I didn't like it. Then I got sick with mono and spent at least a month doing barely anything because I had absolutely no energy. I could barely sit up to eat, and did that little.

I'm still recovering, and afraid to do anything outside the house because I still sometimes have trouble, especially since it's summer now. We've had hotter summers, many, but still I am afraid of trying anything with the weakness I still sometimes get just going to the store.

So i'm at a grand total of 238 pounds, with limited ways of losing it. I'm basically limited to what I can do at home. The only equipment I have is a stationary bike left in the carport by my uncle when he moved. It's so covered in pollen and I have nowhere to put it, so it just sits there, unable for me to use atm. I'm limited to what my mom cooks for food because I can't cook worth a crap. We do tend to balance healthy and non, with fast food 2 times a week at most, usually only once. I occasionally eat breakfast, a snack for lunch, and dinner. That's eat. That's all i'm hungry for.

So, I need advice. I'm sick of this belly. I want to feel confident in taking my shirt off. I want to wear shirts that show off my body, and have a body to show off. Advice, tips, anything. Just understand my limits:

Can't leave the house. Can't afford anything, and too risky to exercise outside the house.
Only equipment is a stationary bike.
Diet is fairly healthy, and I only eat when i'm hungry.
I drink milk, orange juice, water, and the occasional soft drink. At most i'll have 2 cans in one day.

I'm tired of being embarassed when they check my weight if I have to go to the doctor. I want to go to the pool or the beach and proudly take off my shirt. I'd like to lose at least around 30 pounds, so i'm at least slim. I want my gut gone.

Sorry for a long intermission... :) I just need to say that I now weigh 174 lbs. Yay! I know that isn't much, but for me it's been a hassle trying to lose weight. I just have a couple of questions:

1. For a workout, I do 1 set of 15 reps for incline and decline presses (on a machine) at about 15 to 20 lbs. For my lower back, I use some machine that I lay against, and use a 6 lb. medicine ball to work out my back. My biceps are get a workout all the time (I'm a grocery store cashier)... And for cardio, I do about 40 minutes on the tread mill. Any other suggestions on what I can do? By the way, the gym I go to is Gold's Gym... So any help or ideas for my workout would be VERY appreciative.

2. Should I use the sauna at my gym? I have never been in a sauna, but I have heard that it's good for you...

3. My diet is getting better, but I don't know what else I can do to it. I basically drink no soda (ok, maybe once, twice a month?), I try to drink a lot of water, but it's mainly white or green tea (the powder version). So, I don't know if I am still getting the same amount of water or if it's passing through my system. Uhm... What else... I forgot, but I'll edit it tomorrow or post a reply to this post...

So, any ideas? And by the way, I do not have access to a pool. I could go to the local pool, but then I would have to pay like $10 everytime I go... And I am sorta saving up for something... So swimming is out.

Peace!

JUB, I'm 6'4" and I weigh 201 lbs, I want to try and lose like 12-15 lbs in about four weeks. I'm not over weight or anything, but I just want to get rid of my belly fat (I'm not really fat anywhere else). I've already started today, but I'm not really sure if I'm doing it the "healthy way". For breakfast, I had like an egg with a banana, and I jogged for about 45 minutes. For lunch I had a fruit salad (strawberries and blueberries), and for dinner I had some white meat chicken (no skin) and some salmon, and afterwards I went out for another 45 minute jog. I stepped on the scale again and it read 200, but it was probably just from natural fluctuation.

I realized before that I was eating WAY too much, and that my portions were really big, and I wanted to stop myself before I got over weight. I drank like 4 cans of soda a day and I would snack on chips and chocolate and stuff. About a year ago I was really skinny and I weighed 170, and I want to get back to that, but for now I'm just taking it little by little.

Well.... I think I hit the -30lb marker today. For the past couple of days the scale has been floating between 234-227 depending on how I shift my weight. When I stood normally today around noon, it read a clear 230 [of course I tried to see how far I could make it go, and it went up to 234 and down to 226]. So, I think I have lost 30lbs now.... YAY me! :D

I recently started doing pilates [as in yesterday], and while it is really difficult sometimes, it is actually quite fun! I can feel just a huge difference in just two days. Although... part of my weight problem is a combo of: lower than normal metabolism, poor diet, and no physical activity. Now that I am eating better, and finding physical activity fun, the inches seem to be falling off.

Enderwiggen, so how are you doing lately? The middle of this month you said you've lost 30lbs, I have to say congratulation to you. That is a lot of weight to take off. You stated that you have started doing pilates, how is that doing for you?

Please update on your outcome, I wan't to know. hehehe.

!oops!Well i guess I'll start here.

I think I was 170 last year around the summer after 3 weeks of PE in the hot sun and 4 miles running everyday during that time. So I was happy then.

But then things went to hell, school just piled up and i rarely found time to be able to exercise due to the workload.

Now, I'm damn sure I've gained too much weight for my liking so now I intend to loose weight. I think the motivation I have is that I really want my legs back in shape because last year I loved them! After all that running I thought my legs could kick through walls of steel or something. So yea.

So far i have and am trying to cut Soda out of my life, but I do give in to temptations and have one like once a week and now I feel I've gained 3 pounds form that. I dont do workout with weights, I just do Sit ups, push ups, squats, basically a non-weight routine.

I don't realy run or walk so I kinda need help in that department. Around me theres a park and a whole lot of desert so I could run in there, but occasionally there are loose dogs and I'm deathly afraid of some.

And as for food:

I don't know what to do. I try to find something to eat in my house that wont be bad for me but my mom buys all these fattening foods. So I really need help finding something good to eat. So far I either eat something green or a fruit for lunch and breakfast and then nothing for dinner. And I know thats really bad and that I should proably have at least 6 small meals a day, but I don't.

So yea. I need some help. Today I just did situps, pushups, squats, and a few others things.

ELMmSM, I feel the same too. I've also started missing my tone up legs. I haven't been doing much exercising lately for the past two months. I use to go everynight to run and play tennis. Lately since I no longer have a partner, I am lifting weight..and oh my, does it help a lot.

You can start to try running again. If you were able to do 4 miles a day, there is no reason why you can't do 1/4 of that now! LOL, always start out small and simple.

As for eating, if you start counting calories and eat less carbohydrates, you will lose the weight. Don't eat nothing for dinner or eat less than you should. be sure to have some meat in every meal. Protein is always better for you. You don't want to tired yourself out without energy by eating nothing but veggies... then exercising. I've done that..it doesn't help.

The last advice I'll give you is the soda. I use to be addicted to sodas... now? I drink tea, lol..that sounds really boring. When I'm at work, I will usually walk to a store and buy vitamins fruit water. Propelled fitness water is great for you, there is also a fruit drink called Fusion that I love. Taste great and only has like 5 calories. Try something different, you'll notice the inches falling off as soon as you start fully quitting the sodas.

You can diet while living at home too Endlessnight500. I know that you don't cook so, ofcourse, you'll eat what ever that is cooked for you. I find out if I check the calories amount of the food per serving, I tend to not eat it. For example, I am really hungry and I see a bag of chips and some fruits, ofcourse I'll grab the bag of chips but then once I look at the calories in the back, I realize, hey, it'll take me this amount of workout time to burn off what I'm about to eat. After I realize that, I don't eat it.

You don't need to work out daily, it is not good for you. Trust me, working out 3-4 times a week is the perfect amount.

Afterall, you are doing quite well. You've given up sodas, carbonated and cafein drinks, and you exercise... you're on the right track buddy! Just keep up and in a short time, you will be much happier about everything!

If you only have the stomach to take care of then thats actually a good thing.
Since you can't leave the house, there are numerous ways for you to workout.
Rope jumping is a great exercise and burn a lot of fat. You can try doing situps, crunches everyday. keep in mind that quality is better than quantities. Alot of people don't understand that if you're not doing the right crunches and situps, you can do thousands a day and still won't achieve the result.

Stomach muscles need to be built slowly. The slower you do your crunches, the more restraining you're putting into, the faster your result. there are numerous health websites that will teach you to do pretty fierce situps and crunches...but if you need more help you can PM me.

The stationary bike is a great exercise machine. You need to try and target the whole body, because targetting the abs alone does absolutely nothing. While you are getting toner legs and arms, you'll get toner abs.

As far as dieting, don't only eat when you're hungry. Eat frequently. Every two or three hours then eat something small. those small meals will add up to a smaller amount than if you only eat when you're hungry, because you'll eat more.

Also, milk and orange juices is good for you to have more calcium and stronger bones, but it can be the worst drink when you're trying to lose weight. Why? They have large amount of calories and carbohydrates. Those two things when add together will make up gain like crazy.

Sexy Guy,

what you are doing at the gym is pretty good already. Ways to improve it can be working more on the biceps and the shoulders. Try to do atleast 2 sets of 15.
When you have broader shoulder and more tone arms, you're stomach actually looks smaller. 40 minutes on a treadmill is really great. I don't know about everyone else but I like to take breaks when I run. I'll run 20 minutes, rest 10 and stretch stretch stretch!, then step up and start again. In that way you can actually do more. The key to doing more is stretching.

I don't really know about the sauna. I guess in a sense because of the heat you'll burn fat. I am not really sure about this. But why not... you'll feel much more relax when you go in there after your workout!

When you drink tea, you're also drinking a lot of water lol. So don't worry about not having enough water. I know what you mean passing through your system. Believe it or not, your body filters everything out. hehehe, if you know what I mean. You're still getting the same amount of water from tea as if you're drinking water alone.

LOL, don't go swimming if it cost that much! That is like paying for a weightcontrol fee if you go regularly! There's an exercise activity for everybody. Do whatever you feel best.

losing 12-15lbs in four week is really hard, it is not impossible but you'll have to put in a lot of motivation and effort to get that. Taking it little by little is the correct way to approach it. To lose 12 lbs in a month, you can only limit to eating 600 calories a day, or can eat more but burn them through exercising. 600 calories a day is very very less.

If you can keep up your exercise like that, it is a wonderful thing but trust me.. you'll be exhausted faster then you know it. I have to really give you credit though...I only run once every 2 days and I feel terrible.

How is your progess going so far?

Thanks for the support. I went from 201 to 195 in four days, and then I hit a plateau. I'm still losing fat, but I'm gaining weight from muscle. My body fat percentage went from 22% to 20%. I'm still eating healthier and it seems to be getting easier to resist junk food.

liwi80808, that is amazing!

Don't worry about that, as long as you're still losing fat, don't be shocked to see the weights actually go up when you build more muscles.

As long as you can resist junk food, you're on the right track to success.

Oh god, I feel like such a failure now, I pigged out these past few days and about a week ago I had a Pepsi while looking for my water bottle in the fridge -_-'

And like I can't fine a way to motivate myself to keep doing exercise after a day.

lol, thats true. You don't have to do those two all the time, it is not a requirement.

Do it regularly. Make it a habit.

If you know you won't exercise that day, then watch what your eating and don't go over 2000 cal.

If you can't eat less calories, atleast keep your weight the same by not going over.

Still, punish yourself by exercising more the next day. You've been naughty. :spank:

Well, pilates is fun, but somehow I have gotten sidetracked from it. My weight loss has slowed rather dramatically [but I have hit several road blocks regarding the diet I was on]. I have now lost 36 pounds, and am just eating healthier overall. I am picking up excercise again, because I realized I really enjoyed it, and I have seemed off balance on the days I didnt excercise.

I almost quit this weight loss thing, but then I got on the scale, and noticed that I was 36 pounds lighter than I was in June. I then decided that I am going to finish my weight loss challenge because I realized that I was almost half way to my goal weight [I weigh 224, and my goal is 180lbs according to the national BMI charts]. So, I am picking up walking/running, and pilates again [it is a lot of fun, and works wonders].

Hopefully the fact that I am just eating healthier, and excercising more [which was my problem before- poor diet, and lack of excercise] will help me lose weight. I am just glad that I dont crave sugary or starchy foods anymore.

Can someone like make a list of excerisie you can do that doesnt require Weights. I hate weights.

Also, whats the correct way of deing crunches and all that?

Hi! I'm currently close to 240. My ideal weight is 180. I would love to get back to that. However I have a lot against me. I'm addicted to caffeine like a smoker is to cigarettes, and I have a lot of stress in my life which is not helpful. I get discouraged very easy. I have times where I will not drink a soda all day, then there are days it is like I cannot resist myself because its my source of relief.

Anywho, that's my plight.

Caffeine in and of itself won't hurt weight loss (in fact, it revs up the metabolism, as demonstrated in the abundance of weight loss pills that contain caffeine). It's what the caffeine is in that makes a huge difference. Drink sugared sodas, and sure you won't lose weight. Drink coffee, tea (both without sugar), or diet soda, and you'll likely lose weight if you previously drank sugared drinks. As I've lost the 80#, I've had a lot of caffeine in diet soda, and it sure didn't hurt me!

I'm int he same boat as countryboy. 2 months of trying to minimize the amount of Pepsi I take, and its not easy. I now must have one like 4 times a week. I just can't quit.
