Good post syam.
It was a big loss for Big Pelf yesterday. Mike seemed to have lost his command especially with his slider. I did not see him use his fastball inside to the lefties which he generally does. I was confused by that. I wonder if Santos had anything to do with it. Watching him call the game I think that was part of the problem. O course Pelf is a total pro and would never suggest such a thing but take it from me something was up between Pelf and Santos and the way that game was called.
Once again Sean Green had an excellent outing, he showed us a great sinker and is throwing harder He no longer reminds me of Aaron Heilman.
J.J. Putz, on the other hand, continues to stink up the mound, but finally he and the Mets have admitted there may be something wrong with him, well, duh!
J J will go to New York today for a medical exam, there is a strong possibility that he may end up needing surgery. We now finally know that his elbow hurts, and he is in pain when he pitches. I recall that Putz received an anti-inflammatory shot earlier in the season to help with that spur, but that is just temporary, Putz knew then that he will need surgery but wanted to put it off.
Sounds like Maine all over again; obviously that was a bad call. Get better JJ
Next up what to do about Redding, he will pitch tonight and if that goes badly the Mets will have to find a way to replace him. Tim will have to go to the pen maybe as a long man, which will allow Stokes to become our situational reliever along with Takahashi, Felliciano and green. Then we would have Parnell in the 8th who would then give the ball to K-Rod to close.
Of course the rumors are heating up again (did they ever die down) regarding the Mets and the A’s Matt Holliday and Astros Carlos Lee.
Holliday will be a free agent at the end of this season, Lee, is due $18.5 million this season, 2010, 2011, and 2012. Then he is eligible to be a free agent.
The Trade Deadline is be Friday, July 31. Stay tuned kids.
Ryan Church is expected back in the lineup on Sunday, so what will that mean for Fernando Martinez? The Mets will need to decide whether to keep Martinez here or send him back to AAA Buffalo.
Looks like it will be similar to the Castro/Santos situation; the Mets will make the decision base on how well Church returns and how well Martine plays. Fernando after a rocky start has improved both his offense and defense. But from what I see maybe not enough to keep him and not use him all that much, he needs to play every day. I dono how I feel cause I love Church but I worry if he will come back strong and I also love what Martinez has been doing. On one hand if the kid is gonna spend much of his time on the bench it would ne better for him and ultimately for the Mets if he goes back to AAA where he can get more playing time and develop his skills. On the other hand we may need him here to fill in for Sheffield who is struggling with his hammy I am sure we will know what they decide by this weekend.
As syam mentioned Reyes had another setback, he was examined Thursday at a Hospital for Special Surgery. Jose has a tear in his right hamstring tendon; he will rest for the next two days, and then be reevaluated. I don’t want to sound pessimistic but don’t be surprised if you don’t see Jose back for a while. This injury has the potential of being that serious.
It was great to see Beltran in the lineup; he sure showed no ill effects of his illness, hitting that home run as well as a double. Welcome back Carlos!.
This has been a strange season for our Mets, its fun however to see some of my friends who are Yankee fans rallying around me and not rubbing all the crap that has been going down with my team lately in my face. Thanks guys!
Of course it was helped by my dad who when we played pool the other night gave all the boys a warning
