Mets Lets Go 2015
So here we are the start of another season and while most have a very low expectations as to how well the team plays I on the other hand have plenty to share with everyone. Thing is ya never know…ya just don’t. What we have is a scrappy team many of whom I know personally who are excited and optimistic as anyone can be or expect. They are going out there with the mind set of winning, they have no interest in proving the critics wrong but to prove to themselves and the fans they can surprise and have a great year. They are scrappy, talented, determined and full of enthusiasm, they have each other’s backs get along like a family of brothers who really like and support each other. While I cannot promise you a winning season, what I can promise is that you will see is hard working tuff team that will play hard and exciting baseball.
Well we need to start the season off with a bang and so we did.
Sure was a fun opening game I never had a doubt they would win it is something they have done something like 75% of the time
Jonathon Niese was so calm and cool just went out there knew what he had to do and got it done no pressure of being put in Johan’s spot, none at all, Loved the way he had his cutter working sorta made up for his so so curveball. I hope you picked up on how sharp a break on the pitch better than I have ever seen. He threw 16 of 20 for strikes and allowed only one base runner which came as a result of hitting the player. Another thrilling moment for me was to see Scott Rice, after spending almost 15 years in the minors a true success story if ever there is one. Hope to see more of him very soon he is one to watch.
All we heard from the press and Alderson himself was WHAT OUTFIELD? Well Cowgill and Buck showed em a bit of what we have. Cowgill became the first Met to hit a grand slam in his first game with the team and Marlon Byrd gave us a pair of singles in his first Mets home, another new kid on the block John Buck had an RBI single. Buck was very impressive behind the plate I loved how he called that game. I was concerned about how the new catching staff would work with our pitchers and so far so god. You had to notice that Niese hardly ever if ever shrugged off any of Bucks pitch selections, hope you noticed that. How great was it to see Niese in the dugout pleading his case to Collins to stay in the game just one more inning and more importantly seeing Terry grant him the chance, and Jon did not disappoint Collins with the next two batters. I love that Collins had the confidence in Niese to let him go back out there. Of course with a nine run lead it was easy for him to do.
But back to the press how quick were they to jump all over Ike Davis for going 0-for-5 with four strikeouts, I actually heard a few OH OH’s is Ike in trouble? Good Grief it was his first game, calm the fuck down don’t be so fast to tear him down. If they knew anything about Ike they would know that it is not uncommon for Ike to have a game like that on the first day in fact he even joked and said. “The streak continues,” Ike was just swinging too hard, nerves maybe who knows but the Ike Man will be fine.
Daniel Murphy had a happy birthday opener on his birthday. Even thou he barely played this spring looked smooth with two hits taking eight swings and made contact on every one and handling six plays in the field beautifully. Just so ya know Murph is the second Met to drive in a run in a season gotten a hit on Opening Day. Gary Carter was the first.
Shaun Marcum not doing so well he had some neck pain and did not pitch in a scheduled simulated game Tuesday in St. Lucie, so what that means is he will be unable to be activated from the disabled list to make Sunday's start, he was to be our fifth starter. Dono yet who will pitch but could be Aaron Laffey at least I imagine he is the most probable with Collin McHugh also a possibility cause unlike Laffey Collin is already on the 40-man roster and if the Mets go with Laffey, they can create space on the 40-man roster by moving Johan Santana to the 60-day disabled list. Expect a decision by tonight
Game tonight with the very exciting Matt Harvey making his first start of the year. If/when he wins tonight it will be his first at Citi, he went 3-5 last season
