If that's the case, then why did the Republican National Committee chairman apologise to the NAACP in 2005 for exploiting racism and sidelining black voters in the years following the civil rights movement?

The south DEFINITELY joined NIXON over the Civil Rights Act, because the Republicans told them it was perfectly acceptable to be nasty bigots in the GOP, unlike the Dems, where LBJ has just stabbed the south in the back with all that equality for blacks stuff that came from the mick Papist immigrant.

The GOP THEN courted the far right religious nutcases, which is where their anti-choice, and fuck you faggot wings of the party came from. The uterus haters were always there of course - and there you have it, the nutshell history of the modern GOP.
