Obama speech aims to reassure a nervous nation

Your refugee and immigration rate is low, relative to historic levels.
Stop making stuff up.

Quit trying to confuse Ben with proven facts. If he lies about it long enough, shouts about it loud enough, then it must surely be true. He learned from Karl Rove....unfortunately they are both embarrassments and discredited.

Funny that this is only found on your Anti-immigration website.

"The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) published reports in 2002[25] and 2009[26] claiming to connect CIS to John Tanton, who helped found various other organizations, including the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and NumbersUSA, and alleging that he has ties to white supremacy groups and a eugenics foundation.

The SPLC's 2009 report charged:[26]

FAIR, CIS and NumbersUSA are all part of a network of restrictionist organizations conceived and created by John Tanton, the "puppeteer" of the nativist movement and a man with deep racist roots ... CIS was conceived by Tanton and began life as a program of FAIR. CIS presents itself as a scholarly think tank that produces serious immigration studies meant to serve "the broad national interest." But the reality is that CIS has never found any aspect of immigration that it liked, and it has frequently manipulated data to achieve the results it seeks."

Another fine Benvolio source. Why don't you just go ahead and quote the KKK?

So FOX is now a Democrat media outlet?

If there is an actual story here and not some outrageous misrepresentation of the real facts......I have to think that one of the Rupert Murdoch Obama Hate papers or 'news' stations would have picked it up.

And Morning Joe...and all the rest of the Murdoch empire....

How do you know they have not? I don't watch Fox much. Do you?

That FAIR shouldn't be compared with this FAIR. http://fair.org/

The fact that immigration levels are at historic lows doesn't matter to the rabid racist. To the rabid racist, one person from an undesirable race or culture is too many.

Yes. And if there were none, the racist would find some other characteristic within the population which was entirely unacceptable, and devote himself rabidly to its elimination.

Because the problem is not in the Muslims or refugees or immigants or blacks or women or gays. It's in the racist.

Even if you believe immigration is low, it is not relevant. We also do not need as many workers, while we have too many unemployed--highest among minorities as if you cared.

As if you actually care. Unless they are an unemployed Rentboy or some other person that serves your needs, you have little care. Most immigrants work the back-breaking labor jobs that Americans neither want nor will perform. They provide the harvests that we eat; they clean so we can enjoy the pleasures. And most struggle to have what we have -- and many achieve it. Many have toiled like this for decades and then given birth to children in this country that they hope will break the cycle of poverty in their lives. Of course you and the Repaliban that are running the Clown Car would "round them up and ship them back across the wall they'll build."

I realize it is Christmas and the ghosts of Christmas past are haunting but try not to feign concern now; your statements on thread after thread belie your true concern for immigrants.

You're so used to making stuff up you now no longer believe actual credible people ever tell the truth.

The conspiracy nonsense is tiresome.
And yet again, you're complaining about a lack of jobs that are effectively being sent overseas to the countries those terrible, awful illegals you speak of come from.

No we learn that 60% of alleged asylum seekers are interviewed by telephone rather than face to face.http://www.cis.org/rush/most-asylum-applicants-are-interviewed-telephone-feel-safer

Dr. Rush’s article states, “Officers interview asylum seekers by phone in 60 percent of the cases (except for families who are already in detention centers).”

IMO her statement contains an element of truth, but is substantially misleading at the same time. (That situation is not unusual for CIS.)

All asylum-seekers to the US must physically attend an interview at one of the eight asylum offices or at a USCIS field office. The interview is fifth in a sequence of seven steps in the Affirmative Asylum Process.

It appears that the telephone interviews to which Dr. Rush refers involve cases of Credible Fear – for individuals who are detained by ICE and are awaiting deportation, but who can demonstrate a significant possibility that they will be subjected to persecution or torture if returned to his or her country.

Human Rights First reported in June of 2014 their concerns regarding the number of credible fear screenings being conducted via telephone at the US-Mexico border.
In FY 2013, 60 percent of credible fear screenings, or 19,810 out of a total 32,785, were conducted by telephone; in the first half of FY 2014 this proportion has increased to 68 percent.

Key Statistics and Findings on Asylum Protection Requests at the U.S.–Mexico Border

What is important to note is that a determination of credible fear does not grant the asylum-seeker asylum. It grants them a Parole from deportation, which may or may not include release from detention. Having received parole, the asylum-seeker must still proceed with the normal process to obtain refugee status – which includes his or her physical appearance at a face-to-face interview, fingerprinting, verification of identity, background search, etc.

Even if you believe immigration is low, it is not relevant.

Actually I rather think it is relevant to a position that immigration is a top priority issue because of the damage it's purportedly causing.

Since we can point back to MOST of our history and find higher levels of immigration, the concept that the current immigration is specially destructive is illogical.

We also do not need as many workers, while we have too many unemployed--highest among minorities as if you cared.

I have seen absolutely no evidence to suggest we need fewer workers than in other periods of our history to conclude that right now immigration is more destructive per capita than it was in the past.

Immigrants respond to democrat pandering, and we are reaching the tipping point at which we will not have a two party system, and without it, lose both our democracy,as in Chicago, and our free enterprise economy. A one party system is not a democracy even if they go through the motions. If immigration is lower than at some time is irrelevant. It is still too large.
With millions of unemployed and many millions who have stopped looking, yes we have too many workers. There is no chance that we can overcome poverty while we continue to bring in millions of immigrants.
