Obama's Justice Department Wiretaps AP Phone Lines .. Both Business and Personal

Stop trying to blame Obama and democrats for something Bush and the Republican party started.

9-11 Happened on Bush's watch, so did the economic meltdown. How many times do we have to remind the American people that Bush is responsible for what he left behind.

Please tell me how Bush made Obama's people tap reporter's business and personal phones?

Have you read the Patriot act?

Like I said I wanna know what the reasoning was behind this... if none then they alll need to be in prison. If there is one then it is simply a legal argument. Bush's justice had this power and So does Obama's.

Dont you get it Jack... you think they balme Bush but they are simply reiterating the warning they gave when it was imposed as law. There is a difference.

JH -- the Patriot Act was pushed by the dem's in Congress. If my memory serves me correctly Bush and the republicans were hesitant to pass and sign the act.

Correction:

The Patriot Act was pushed in the House by the Republicans. The Democrats in the Senate acquiesced.

Under pressure from widespread panic felt among Americans from both the September 11 attacks and the 2001 anthrax attacks, Congress rushed to pass legislation to strengthen security controls. On October 23, 2001, Republican Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner introduced H.R. 3162 incorporating provisions from a previously sponsored House bill and a Senate bill also introduced earlier in the month.[5] The next day on October 24, 2001, the Act passed the House 357 to 66,[6] with Democrats comprising the overwhelming portion of dissent. The following day, on October 25, 2001, the Act passed the Senate by 98 to 1.[7]

I stand corrected. Only one US senator voted against the original Patriot Act.

The act was extended and strengthened in 2011 and signed Obama.

From Joe Patrice at Above the Law:

[T]he final takeaway from the outrage over the AP scandal: the fixation on this event just exposes everyone’s complicity in laying the groundwork for this moment.

After years of the Patriot Act, this is nothin' to write home about.

Interesting these right wingers who said nothing when Bush was enacting these laws are now speaking up.

Some people obviously don't know the difference between a wiretap and seizing phone records.

I'm not sure why Republicans are upset over this. They wanted the leak investigated and that's what happened.

That is true ninja... republicans were clamoring during the campaign that Obama just allowed leaks and it was a disgrace. Funny how they will seize upon anything in their decline.

Stop trying to blame Obama and democrats for something Bush and the Republican party started.

9-11 Happened on Bush's watch, so did the economic meltdown. How many times do we have to remind the American people that Bush is responsible for what he left behind.

And Obama is responsible for using and even expanding it.

I thought about this last night. Trying to blame this outrageous and illegal violation of federal law by the Obama Administration on the Patriot Act and President Bush is like saying it happened because "my dog ate my homework'.

That defense is a sham. Sorry, but it's time for Obama and his people to take responsibility for their actions -- no one made them do anything -- they did it on their own accord.

They are responsible. Stop blaming other people for your actions.

One good thing may come out of this -- the media got a kick in the butt from their friend in the White House and will start doing their job.

If you're going to make claims here, you should provide sources. So far, you haven't provided anything saying there were any illegal activities.

Here we are on page 2 and no one has pointed to the real issue here.

It's a constitutional one: does the Executive have the authority to bypass the judicial by issuing its own subpoenas?

I think not. Regardless of whether or not any certain law was used as justification, this is an action by Holder and his crew which bypasses the separation of powers.

Once again, Obama's "justice" champion shows he has little regard for justice.

Just watched Rachel Maddow -- nothing about the 3 scandals on her show -- just bad-mouthing Bush and Nixon.

Now I know where some posters here get their ideas -- ignore the issue and talk about other things.
