The BBC is reporting that counter-terrorism police in New York City are tightening up security there in the light of events in Boston. One wonders whether they have reason to expect something.

They are also reviewing security for Sunday's London Marathon

I got word that 2 people that I know that were there are all right.

There were TWO explosions - a photo shows an orange blast at the moment of explosion - with smoke from a second explosion some distance in the background. So that rules out gas explosions.

There was also a reportedly unconnected incident at Boston's JFK Library - a fire, apparently

Probably any young Arab male close to the bomb sites would be a 'suspect,' doesn't mean he is guilty of anything other than looking Arabian. One report said it was another spectator who fingered this Saudi as looking suspicious and running away

I am glad Joey McIntyre from New Kids On The Block is safe, he actually finished his race five minutes before the explosion.

Joey was so sweet to let us Blockheads know he's okay and safe.

So sad that two people died. I also heard some people lost their limbs due to the explosion. This is shocking, wonder why the attackers went after Boston usually they got for NYC.

What horrible news. Middle of classes earlier today and my friend who lives in Boston texted me about it. So glad she's safe.

I really hoped that no one had passed because of this, but three people have lost their lives. Im just...saddened, disgusted and angry. I was going to post pictures from the Boston Marathon here but I had a difficult time looking at them and I decided not to. So, so sad. I pray for the lost, the injured and their loved ones.

I work in Boston, I work nights, know the area well, did not attend the Marathon this year.

Consider the clues: Patriot Day, and also April 15, the deadline for filing taxes? Plus...the fact that it's in Boston, where the original Tea party occcurred....

The arrest of the Saudi national is just too convenient. I'm not yet convinced that the Islamics are to blame.

It doesn't have the hallmarks of domestic terrorism, but I guess we'll see. Having the unexploded devices is valuable for the police because it provides the most direct physical evidence to connect someone to the crime.

This is how bad this is. I went out Monday night and bumped into some firefighters I know. They said one of the dead was an 8-year-old boy from Dorchester who had gone out to hug his dad after he crossed the finish line. The dad walked on; the boy went back to the sidewalk to join his mom and his little sister. And then the bomb went off. The boy was killed. His sister’s leg was blown off. His mother was badly injured. That’s just one *family, one story.

The FBI has said there are "no known additional threats" in Boston following the bombing of the marathon.

At a news briefing, officials said no bombs other than the two which exploded had been found, but that no-one was being held over the attack.

Three people were killed, including an eight-year-old boy, and more than 150 injured by the bombs.

Doctors treating the wounded have said a number of people have had pellets and "nail-like" fragments removed.

That all sounds awfully familiar. The IRA used to use nail bombs; they are often used by suicide bombers. Hopefully one of the 3 three killed was the bomber.

M10000, I know you find pictures of bodies scattered on the ground and blood spilled over pavements and people in pain and injury to be all fascinating and enjoyable, but it doesn't mean the rest of us do.
