On my way to the hospital

So sorry to hear that Neil has a broken hip.
Thank you to both redfox and DonQuixote for keeping us updated.
We all love Neil around here, and our positive posts are what's going to keep his spirits up, and help him recover quickly.....:D

Hi, everyone. I tried calling the hospital around 17:40EST, just before I left work - he wasn't back on the floor from surgery then.

I JUST got off the phone with the floor secretary. His charge nurse was tied up, so the secretary walked over to Neil's room to check on him - he was sound asleep.

So, first things first - he's back from his surgery and appears to be resting as comfortably as possible. Given that he never gets decent rest because of his back issue, if he's on the "good stuff" from the surgery, he's likely getting the best sleep he's seen in quite awhile.

The secretary said she would make sure he knows I called - I asked her to tell him that ALL of his friends were pulling for him.

Knowing how self-deprecating Neil is, I'm sure that him seeing this thread (when he can get to internet and doesn't have to worry about inquiring eyes and/or blocked systems) will be a great shot in the brighter spirits arm.

Beyond that, I don't have any status updates. I will call again tomorrow to see if the day nurse has more information after the surgeon does his rounds and Neil is back from "la la land".

I do want to do something for him - I'm thinking a fruit basket, and/or maybe pay for his phone which also gives him a keyboard and use of their system - which will at least get him to his e-mail and current events, but probably not JUB.

The day charge nurse thought he'd be able to use the wireless keyboard fairly easily - I wasn't sure given his surgery.

Note: I don't know if they replaced his hip or set it - that's one of the things I want to ask tomorrow.

Sorry I'm not more knowledgeable on all the details. I'll share as I can.

One thing that does concern me is that he will likely have to go to a nursing home for rehabilitation and such until he can manoeuvre by himself - he has a roommate, but I don't think he'll be able to take care of Neil as he will need it.

Here's hoping he remembers to take care of the cats - he likes to have them around, but Neil has done all of the work related to their care.

I don't have access to JUB during the day.

I, and I'm sure MANY More, are certainly willing to "chip in" for whatever WE can do for Neil! :biggrin:

And, knowing Neil (though, Unfortunately, not Personally), I'm also aware of how "Tricky" that can be! ](*,)

I KNOW that You will continue to keep "Us" up to date. And, if You would be willing to take the point on starting a fund for Neil, which I'm sure You'll have ALL of "Our" Trust to handle, Please let "Us" know possible details of that, too! (group)

Thank you DQ for the info. I hope he'll go home as soon as possible, with his cats... they are a healing aid, so I heard... And Ontario Health system is a good one, so I think he is in good hand!

As I said, I'll check with the charge nurse for some help as far as his needs/or niceties while he's at the hospital.
Anything left over I'll make sure he gets full benefit of.

Hospitals typically restrict access to Porn Sites on their servers, so that's not likely to happen.
Even though we all know that we use it for a lot more than that.

Hell, I had a car dealership with free wifi restrict Jonathan Cainer - a horoscope site - as "mysticism" or some such rot.

Further update courtesy of DQ:

Neil rested well last night and is awake. His doctor has been in to see him.
They did a total hip replacement to his left hip.

The nurse advises that Four days is a typical hip replacement stay, but they will have to see how Neil does.

(The gentleman in charge of the phone concession also mentioned how they seem to push to discharge people on Fridays - which sounds about right to me)

I had his Phone, TV, and Internet (slowish, limited ability via wireless keyboard and TV - not very good for streaming videos) turned on for four days, starting around 12:30PM EST or so today.

(The daily package includes headphones, since he doesn't have a private room.)

I hope he is doing well. Ask him if the metal squeaks when he walks. Ask him if his cats need anything.
 
Meh just minor surgery. j/k take care of yourself when you get home.

and get back here cause we all need you (yeah even me lol)
