I have little doubt that Warren provided the major impetus to his own son's death. I pray it will lead him to repent and learn to love, but have little hope he will.
Me too.
My best friend in High School was one of the biggest "homophobes" that I knew growing up.
It eventually "ended" our friendship.
Years and "high school reunions" later, we're back to being friends but never like we were.
I'm out now, and so is his youngest son.
The only thing that complicates this is that my "homophobic" best friend back in high school, has since "found Jesus."
I don't think that any of us can possible know what's going through Rick Warren's heart and mind, but I'd put my money on he's either dealing with his complicity (if any truly exists) in his contribution to his son taking his own life; through both his thoughts, actions and words, or rabidly in denial that his actions or words had anything at all to do with it at all.
I do know personally, that if my best friend from high school, if his Gay Son killed himself, and he thought for one second that he did or said something that might have contributed to his son's suffering, that he would be not only devastated, but irreconcilable.
So if one is confused about how to deal with the news from the outside, there is scripture already in place for those quick to judge:
Galatians 6:7-8 KJV:
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption;
As a Gay Man, who's experienced his fair share of suffering at the hands of so called "Christians" and their interpretation of "Christ's Love," I've chosen to be more "Christ Like" than Christian, and allow that judgement for someone else.
