That is correct. Your SSN appears on your State death record. The funeral home also files a form with the Social Security Administration (SSA) which compiles a Death Index with your name, address, SSN, DoB and DoD. This stops your benefits. It is also searchable, so other institutions that have fiduciary accounts can also be notified of your death.

But then again, they're lying about just about everything they say, so why not that, too?

The irony of this DOGE lie is that occasionally, the SSA used to goof and issue the same SSN to two people. When one of them died, the benefits for both people were terminated, their credit cards would be canceled and their bank accounts frozen. It was quite a difficult process to fix. Turns out that it's easy to prove you are dead than it is to prove that you are still alive.
