^ But, in fairness, the US has been at the hands of the military-industrial complex since the Cold War. We over-produce arms and miltaria as a growth industry, and then export it the world over to further expand our markets.

We created a monstrous bureaucracy with assurances of regulated Federal Acquisition Regulations, giving the appearance of controls against abuse, yet the contractors still manage to propose fraudulently, exceed profits allowed on government contracts, and get by without punishment when their products do not work or when their contracts do not meet terms like delivery dates.

And, in contrast, Canada has not. Nor does Canada have a global empire. She was but a British Colony, so she never existed as an imperial state. Her forces are less not only because her population is one tenth of ours, but because her defense is assured by NATO, of which she has been a contributing member and supported the US in multiple foreign theaters in recent years.

A more telling chart would speak to how many of the US weapons are on North American soil, how many are how old, and how many are systems that have been called obsolete, not by anti-militarists, but by the Pentagon.

Tragically, Mr. Trump suffers from DBDS (Delusional Big Dick Syndrome). He sees a world in which we are the biggest gorilla and believes we should be bending saplings to the ground and beating our chest. It's a long way down from the skyscraper.

I am giving the author the out for "die", as autocorrect likely doesn't knoe DEI, especially on Musk's platform.

I think before Canada makes nuclear threats against the US they need a reality check. I think Trump sees a world in which the US has been taken advantage of but they hated us anyways. Europeans have denied we have protected them, seems funny to me now that they think we might not continue to do so they are now spending billions on defense. Hopefully, they will have enough fossil fuels to fuel their tanks and planes.

Not sure who alleged Canada is threatening the US. Their request would be a defensive move, a deterrent to Russia, or the US, from violating territorial integritty.

Trump sees a world through shit-colored glasses. Everyone and everything is weak and corrupt. He is the perennial victim of endless schemes, and all he produces as proof is his allegations, smears, name-calling, and slurs. In response to actual evidence, to formal investigations and prosecutions, he has been proven a categorical liar, an extortioner, and a fraud. In turn, his main response is "Nuh-UH! No, YOU!" And sadly, his followers are happy with that infantile act, only obsessed with winning at any cost.

He, and his minions, endlessly accused Biden of crimes with no evidence. All the crap about Hunter still didn't point any finger at the president. It's completely possible to have a family member cashing in on his name without there being a crime committed by the elected officer. As an alternative, Trump openly appointed his family members to high office, allowing them to run key goverment affairs and foreign affairs as naked simony. How is that virtue?

Fundamentalists Christians forsake 90% of their values to endorse him, because allegedly fewer babies will die via abortion and they can vanquish the trans people.

Fiscally conservative Republicans abandoned their socially neutral philosophy and drove up deficits, along with Democrats, to record levels, in a deal with the Devil, else they be homeless, a third party.

Similarly, hawks in Congress accepted Trump's relentless attacks on the intelligence forces, insults to the valiant soldiers, his toadying to Putin, his unconstitutional extortion of Ukraine both in his first term and now, as they smell money in the House of Trump for them and their cronies.

Trump, not in spite of his blustering, but because of it, has a classic inferiority complex. He is the noveau riche. He finds the real elite to be obnoxious because he has the taste of a carnie barker, and finds civility a weakness.

Europeans have denied we have protected them, seems funny to me now that they think we might not continue to do so they are now spending billions on defense. Hopefully, they will have enough fossil fuels to fuel their tanks and planes.
No, Europeans have not.

They have been selfish and slack in funding their own portions of the necessary costs of NATO, but they didn't allege they don't need the U.S. They don't even allege that now. They state that the duplicity of Trump now makes the alliance a liability, so they will move to be secure as soon as possible without the heavy reliance on American arms and willpower.

They will continue to regard us as an ally insomuch as we behave as one, in hopes of seeing the country right itself, and pass laws prohibiting the type of "soft revolution" for corruption that is now underway. Barring that success, they have every reason to treat us with the same fear anyone does when around a baboon playing with a pistol.

The tenor of Trump's snowflake refrain is ludicrous.

"America! The biggest sucker on the planet!!!"

What tripe. The planet may see us as the biggest sucker, but it means it in the leech sense. We consume more per person that any other nation.

We topple sovereign states to enable a banana company to control its supply chain.

We backed the Shah and deposed his father to put him on the peacock throne, to control an oil supply.

Under Reagan, we sold arms to both the Iraqis and the Iranians during the Iran-Iraq War.

We have touted ourselves as freedom-loving while creating a Homeland Security shadow force that can see and hear anything, any time, with it all being done in the name of anti-terrorism. We tortured prisoners while double-talking about the definition of torture.

Trump alleges that we've been victimized by our allies, suggesting we only give concessions but get nothing in return. What hogwash. We gain control and influence in myriad ways, furthering American wealth power through financial manipulations, through statecraft, and through soft power.

What Trump does understand is the masses in the US experience victimization from megacorporations, and feels frustrated by the paradigm, so he manipulates that angst and channels it through pure propaganda.

The deficit is out of control? Well, it must be because of those damned federal employees, not the taxation schema that allows Donald Trump and Warren Buffet to pay less tax than in the history of federal income taxes. At a time when the wealtth gap is wider than ever, the solution it to give back more riches to the rich and fuck those chumps making $8 per hour.

You couldn't write satire more absurd than the reality.

The US does not have to continue protecting Europe, Democrats, and Rinos seem to think we must do it until the end of time. They are coming up with the money now for their militaries. The American public has decided to move away from extreme green policies, we have decided to move away from the increasing anti-Jewish feelings in Europe. I don't think we share the same values anymore. The American people voted against the snobbish elite.

The US does not have to continue protecting Europe,
We actually do.

When Russia expands, we become less secure by definition. When we forsake defense treaties, we endanger our own security and we DO need allies.

One of the gross problems with Trumpism is the suggestion we need no allies. There's not a nation on the planet whom he regards as a trusted ally, outside Israel.

Democrats, and Rinos seem to think we must do it until the end of time.
The name-calling of dissenting Republicans as RINOs is an extremist cult mentality. "You agree with me, or you are no true believer." Trump is fightitng against political caucuses being coalitions of citizens and trying to establish a monolithic loyalty, exactly as totalitarian regimes have done. He is already uttering statements in office that journalists shouldn't ask him questions he doesn't like, that his cabinet should not speak up if they have counsel that disagrees with Musk.

That's not government by the people. It's the fiat of Trump.

Those supporting Europe and NATO are not idealogues, but statesmen. If we are to change our alliance, it is to be by being an ally, not by treating allies worse than our enemies. When Trump lavishes justifications and praise on Putin and assassinates the character of Zelenskyy, he is openly currying favor with a ruler who literally kills his rivals with the power of the state.

Throwing out lies about Zelenskyy doing the same is lame. There actually were Russian operatives in Ukraine and had to be quashed, which was not persecution, but necessary in the heat of an active war with a nation that speaks the same language as most Ukrainians. Infiltrators are much more hidden than in the US when trying to get Chinese or ISIS operatives in.

They are coming up with the money now for their militaries.
They certainly are, but that doesn't make them the enemy. And we will never have a safe alliance with them again until we enact reforms that block the rise of another traitor in office.

The American public has decided to move away from extreme green policies,
No. Corrupt politicians and greedy private interests have found a populist who's all too happy to fuck the environment in exchange for bribes.

Extreme green policies wouldn't be exportitng waste to the third world. Extreme green policies wouldn't by lying about recycling plastics. Extreme green policies wouldn't be promoting the ever-increasing individual ownership of internal combustion automobiles, allowing entire states to have no emission standards at all, or allowing fertilizer and pestticides and herbicides to run off without restrictions or effective fines and prosecutions.

Not very extreme. Very don't care.

we have decided to move away from the increasing anti-Jewish feelings in Europe.
To the contrary, the Anti-Defamation League has chronicled the increase in anti-semitism in America and attributes it to the encouragement Trump has given Proud Boys and others. Stand down and stand by.

The "good people" at the Klan rally were chanting "Jews will not replace us!" You can be assured that faction isn't happy when Trump enables Israel's war crimes. Likewise, the Jewish citizens here have no love for the Proud Boys or the Klan. Go figure.

What is true is that hate groups online can be ubiquitous and readers have no real ability to know if it is one man or bot creating 100 accounts, or whether he is in Russia, or Germany, or Connecticut.

I don't think we share the same values anymore.
And that, we agree on.

The nation has grown jaded since the 1960's and no longer believes government to be good, nor honest, nor respectable. As a result, a mean sort of real poliitik has evolved, and even infiltrated the most idealist segments of America. The internet has emboldened cowards who snipe from the shadows, giving vent to their worst demons.

We don't teach our children good citizenship, but selfishness, and our society shows it.

The American people voted against the snobbish elite.
If you polled the 52% who voted for Trump, they wouldn't have all voted for any one thing, and it certainly wouldn't be against the elite if they are supporting Trump as he appoints billionaires over key offices.

As for "snobbish", that's a bit of a vague propagandist term. Who are the snobs? Is it those who have higher education? Is it those who vacation in Disney resorts and on their cruises? Is it the Northeasterners who view the Midwest and South as yokels? Is it the Marines and those who fight our wars as opposed to the weekend warriors who just do it for the extra income? Is it the families who can send their kids to the HBCUs and avoid the death spirals of the ghetto? Is it the professional millionaire athletes driving show cars and whoring with models?

Exactly what acts are snobbery?

In my experience, most times that term has been invoked, it has been from someone feeling rejected, which is an attitude, not usually an act.

Placing spoilers and deconstructionists in the government isn't anti-elite. It's self-destructive. And illegal when contravening Congress's authorizations and appropriations.

The premise is both false and one-sided.

TRUMP attacked Canada out of the blue. Reacting to it isn't the problem. Trump remains the problem. Giving credence to Trump remains the problem domestically.

He disrespected Canada's sovereignty.

And Canadian politticians aren't advocating nuking the US. That's a straw man used to make the opposition look stupid.

Becoming armed with nuclear weapons is not supporting war against the US. Canada knows we are ten times her size and would not pretend to ever make war on us.

Trump said what he was going to do and the Americans chose him. I think Vance will keep his following and win easily in 2028. The Democrats have decided to keep the same course on pushing Trans idealogy in primary schools and allowing males into female sports which is supported by only 20 percent of Americans. The Democrats are likely to add reparations this next time also. I was a Democrat until 2020 and hope to be one again one day if they come back closer to the center.

Trump said what he was going to do and the Americans chose him.
Again, no.

Trump never said he'd attack all our allies. He said he'd end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, not that he'd sacrifice Ukraine and exile the Palestinians with Netanyahum's blessing. He claimed he'd bring prices down on Day One, not tank the markets and begin a recession when we were headed for a solid recovery

And again, only a slim majority chose him. That's not a mandate. That's a divided government. Proof is in his executive orders, as he cannot count on his own party to hold.

I think Vance will keep his following and win easily in 2028.
And I think I'l buy percale sheets. Until either happens, it's wishful thinking. When the government goes extreme, it generally galvanizes opposition.

The midterms will be the bellweather. Let's see how they turn.

I haven't been a Democrat for some years, but it was due to the false dichotomy. I've been an independent. There's so far no organized 3rd party that is pro-Labor, pro-center, and pro-cooperation.

Likely, with the Democrats in confusion, the party that centrist Republicans probed in 2024 will finally form, and many centrist Democrats and Independents, will join.

Policy positions may be all over the place, but it is nonetheless true that the same nation that voted out Old & Feeble, and Vague & Unproven, will vote out Mean & Petty. A great deal of Trump's misdeeds would not sink him were he ever to rise above being himself, but he just has abysmal self-control and spews bile when all he has to do is become a statesman.

But, he can't, and ultimately, his own party will chisel his name from the monuments he erects.

As for reparations, that's a straw man. When I hear that they have, and campaign on it in 2028, I'll come running back to call you prophet. Until then, it's imputing your opponents' argument, a proven debate method of hyperbole.

It is always fascinating to read the warped narratives the right wing imposes on things. Again, I suspect it comes from a lack of broader general knowledge and being stuck in someone's conspiracy riddled youtube fantasy world.

Falling into the Trumpian trap of making out that the rest of the world is out to get you and externalizing grievances because otherwise people in the US might wake the fuck up, take a good look at how the oligarchs are making fools of everyone and maybe do something about it.

Jimmy Dore is one of the very few open minded leftists out there and he is a comedian, so a lot of his videos are quite amusing.

"All we are saying, is give war a chance."
