President Elect's telephone call to President of Taiwan

I don't think it will do much damage. Everyone knows he is inexperienced, ignorant, and naive, and thus forgivable, but for how long.

^ The experts don't think so. No matter how inexperienced, ignorant, and naive he is, this (according the an expert) is stuff that wars are made of.

Oh crap. Now what will China do to retaliate

I think Taiwan will be looking fwd to American support, if it all goes pear shaped, and yep, war.

The two nations are too entangled commercially to go to war. Plutocrats in DC and Beijing would stop it from happening. Anyway it would hardly be a fair fight given American naval supremacy.

China says he is meddling with her sovereign affairs. It is likely some sort of reprisal will happen, as recognising Taiwan in this way is giving legitimacy to it for it's claim to independence from China, which is anathema to mainland leaders. If you haven't noticed already, Shi Jinping has been consolidating his grip on the mainland, and stoking patriotic fervour. As long as everyone toes the party line, or rather his dictats, then all is seemingly well, but this... Trump has not only endangered the folks on Taiwan, he risks armed conflict which may drag the US into another foreign quagmire. Despite your naval superiority, the staking out of the South China seas by the chinese military is not by accident.

Hillary Clinton WOULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS FUCKED-UP SHIT. Ever.

I suspect that we will see hundreds of things that will be much worse than "what Hillary would have done." On the other hand, we will see SOME things where "Hillary would have done worse" - but I think those will be much more rare.

"...the bottomless pig-ignorance..."

yep

Remember, he is not president yet. Only a private citizen.

Remember, he is not president yet. Only a private citizen.

He is the president-elect and is expected to perform in that capacity. If he had a clue about politics, he wouldn't be doing all the stupid things he's doing when he's doing them. Even Jim Hacker had Sir Humphrey to guide him along and help him with protocol.

we all know he doesn't know shit---and he is ruled by his ego----or people around him who will manipulate him---and this is only the beginning---this should be fun:corn:

until it isn't---he's inheriting a great economy that is getting even better----like Clintons economy when retard bush came in---so we shall see how fast he messes up everything.

Contrary to what vagina man and bernie bros seem to think..I supported Hillary Clinton initially for her superior statesmanship skills and knowledge of the delicate and dangerous balance of powers on the world stage....

This man is truly a foreign affairs fucking nightmare...and contrary to what so many people insisted on saying...they are NOT "both the same"....

Trump is clueless, reckless and dangerous.

He probably wants to build a hotel in Taiwan.

China is apparently dismissing the call as 'a small trick by Taipei'.

In first comments apparently to downplay the significance of the call, Mr Wang said the contact between Taiwan's president and Mr Trump was "just a small trick by Taiwan" that he believed would not change US policy toward China, according to Hong Kong's Phoenix TV.

"The one-China policy is the cornerstone of the healthy development of China-US relations and we hope this political foundation will not be interfered with or damaged," Mr Wang was quoted as saying.

With the calls that Trump has been making and receiving...including the one with Duterte, where he invited the thug strongman from the Phillipines to the White House...I get the sense that he is rapidly becoming thought of as a flaky lightweight on the international stage.

I have to think at this time, given the reaction by China, the other superpowers see him as a joke already.

Screw China and their sensitivities.
Taiwan is a modern democracy. Trump's gaff has kicked the sand in the face of Beijing's thought police. They're no less idiotic than him in that respect.

Well, we'll see how it all turns out.

There is kicking sand in the face of other countries and then there is witless, de-stabilizing provocation by 'democratic' leaders in the US that triggers off mass failed movements like the Arab Spring, resulting in reactionary backlash and civil war that resonates around the world.

Guess which approach that I see Trump's reckless foreign policy taking?

As I noted with his buddy-up call to Duterte...he now has the President of the Phillipines telling the world that the next President of the US agrees with his violent anti-drug program that in itself is an horrific abuse of human rights.

It is one thing if a man with the emotional and intellectual grasp of a 14 year old sociopath wants to stir the pot in his own country...it becomes another thing when he sets out to break the world.

Not so much, the State Dept has been chomping at the bit to provide him with a diplomatic staff to help him with these issues to avoid exactly this issue but he has so far ignored or refused them. This paints him more than just naive.
